he said its because of the way he palm mutes. he uses the part of the hand which connects to his pinky. imagine palm muting like for hours everyday, for like 30 years. he said hes got a cut there (in the crack at the bottom of the pinky), and tapes it up so the strings don't get in and sting him. also so it doesn't bleed all over his guitar. :]
