  • hey, i loved the video and you are pretty talented with guitars, however i was quite a bit interested in your first paint job (white with the wolf) i wanted to know if you could tell me how you did your own drawings on the guitar and what paint to use and everything, because i am trying to put my own design on my own guitar :) thanks

  • Great video all around. Couldnt stop watching, whoda thunk watching paint dry could be interesting.

  • Sir Lord Hong,

May i know how did you cover the body binding so the paint will not permanently stick on it?

  • Dude, thats fucking bad ass

  • you, sir, ARE A FUCKING ARTIST!

  • that LP looked like glass great job. thanks for the great video bro.

  • WOW

  • Amazing Job!!!!

I'm working on an Epiphone for do some trials before doing this on my Gibson.

I would like a nitrocellulose Faded finish, maybe a Haynesburst color.

But i don't know how to make a faded finish...the steps. Any ideas?

    Thx from France!

  • OUTSTANDING MAN

  • damn Gibson should give you a job

  • Great; you made an excelent work.

  • love that look brother

  • truly amazing. can u do mine?

  • I would have liked to see a better shot of the finished product. It was very dark when it was on the table and the last shot was zoomed in too far... Would love to see it together with all the hardware back on it.... Thanks for the video and schooling though. Im about to atempt to do my single coil les paul too... Question, how to i remove the install saddle studs? cant figure that one out...

  • @IronmanCFL I will post a video of me playing it soon - as for the saddle studs I used a dent puller for cars to remove mine - it's like a slide hammer with a bolt at the end - Good Luck with it!

  • damn beautiful job

  • @tonydane Thanks - I hope this influences you to do something major that you thought you couldn't - Cheers!

  • it may be a stupid question but what is wet sanding?

  • @fernyxferny321 Wet Sanding is when you use fine sand paper (from 220 - 2000 grit) soaked in water - works well

  • @FilmForger thanks i thought it was wetting the guitar and then sand it

  • ooo men you made VERY NICE work fuck ;p

you must works in gibson men ;p

  • btw, maybe a bad question but do you use the 3m rubbing compound to clean polish your guitar as well? or do you use the guitar polishes you get from guitar stores?

  • @reaper2ooX You can use regular Martin Guitar Polish or something but I use just a damp micro cloth with water - works nicely - same to polish my glasses

  • woah shit!, better than factory finish :P awesome job man, thanks for this

  • Soo Bad-ass! Great Job! :D :D

  • Awesome video thanks posting it helped me out a lot as i want to redo my 1969 west wood Les Paul

  • i am rebuiliding an epi les paul and man yours looks good already!!!! i wish i had binding on mine! anyways nice job!

  • @LesPaul209 Thank you - Look on Utube on how to put binding on - it's only plastic that you can sand and contour to the guitar - or google it - good luck

  • Mr. Hong, watching this video was absolutely awesome. I wanted to watch more. I'm glad I got to see what I saw. Great work!

  • @mandymoo Why thank you so much for that compliment - I'm so glad you can appreciate my hard work - Thanks again!

  • sounds like sylvester stallone narrating. good vid!

  • very cool man! i learned alot thanks.

  • my god, you impressed ME with that thing, and i usually HATE les pauls but this one is true beauty. i cant wait to see it with the hardware etc. in it. you should make a video of that.

  • wow man i didn't want this too end.. thinking of getting a les paul bfg and doing something similar as i cant afford a standard and the sound is my thing. this has helped me out man thanks, nd your are a great artist!

  • @tomm4272 Thank You - I am humbled and speechless - good luck with your project

  • @FilmForger thanks man.

  • god dam that looks sexy. subed

  • by the way, how do you remove, and re-add binding? if you could explain a little about that i'd appreciate it. i'm trying to do this myself and i'm finding it quite hard.

  • @belkeSMASH I never removed the binding - but if you really need to - I mean if you REALLY need to I might use Acetone on the glue but that might ruin the binding - like I said I never removed binding before - sorry

  • Just when i thought it was death for this Les Paul by someone hacking on it with 60 grit then using a dye grinder....I was like OMFG this guy is fucking up his guitar and no one is stopping him..LOL But this video proved me wrong! Dude you upgraded an already cool guitar. I'm glad i watched this! Definitely art you are a poet in art.

  • @kevykev38 Wow - Thanks - that has to be the biggest compliment I have ever gotten!!! Very much thanks!! BTW I wrote a semi-nasty email to Gibson asking them why I have to finish the 50's style belly cut instead of them - they never answered.

  • dude you are an artist you need to work for gibson's paint shop bro

  • @hellboy6662009 Thank You for that - really, you just made my weekend!!

  • how many coats of the swirl remover did u do?

  • @luckylucka77 about two - enough to get the scratches out - rub hard in small spots -as you start to see the swirl remover disappear that's when it starts working. You can bring back an old guitar's finish this way. Good Luck!

  • with what did you do wetsanding?? i mean with what liquid?? water + soap? thx

  • @Eclipse7213 Just water - use 2000 grit and just keep dipping in regular plain ol water - as you sand it you'll start seeing little white particles - that would be the actual clear coat getting smoothe. Be very careful around the edges - they sand faster and you might break through to the paint which would be a disaster. Good Luck

  • that is a sick paint job! very well done!

love the body work. makes me think of a corvette! :D

    now get a stronger table!

  • @kazuyamochu - hehe Thanks - that table is perfect because it is made of glass which I could scrap clean with a razor - also it's problaby 50 years old

  • @kazuyamochu Thanks - Corvettes are nice especially the 1977 model - that table just broke recently while I was painting my Harley - the rear fender just fell over on it's side and fell through - I didn't film it BTW

  • that looks amazing!! can u put up a video of how it sounds?

  • Sure - I've been meaning to do so - Thanks for the compliment

  • Very nice.

  • very nice man real informative i like the finish beautiful guitar .

  • Thank you for that - It's really hard filming something when you're mentally involved in it and especially when your hands have chemicals on them and you don't want to handle the camera. But it's deffinately worth it at the end - I wish I'd film everything I done in the past including building my Harley. Cheers!

  • thanks man i appreciate that most people wont tell im still sanding it back ill get some vids soon hope you upload some more vids love watchin them

  • could you suggest what grit sandpaper ill need for a nice clear finish just like yours

  • To bring back a nice shine from a kinda dull look I recommend wet sanding using 2000grit then use 3M 'fine cut' rubbing compound - then rub in Maguire's Scrath Remover - then finish with Mother's Power Polish 'Stage 1'- make sure you use Microfibre cloth at all times - and/or a proffesional buffer. First experiment with a small spot on the back.

  • cant get over how good that came up im rebuilding my first gibson never played guitar before got some pics it was found under a house in about 1972 in that condition not sure wat it is

  • Thanks but Wow - under a house?? Good Luck with the guitar - must practice practice then practice some more...it'll change your life!

  • nice work man good to see people doing it themselves

  • Thanks - the satisfaction overcomes the sweating!

  • by the way, now i know why the next day, i saw shiny mosquitos flyin 'round the neighborhood.

  • Mr. H., your procedure for refinishing this les paul worked very good and gave me the confidence i needed to refinish my 1974 strat that i've already sanded down, but was lost with all the next steps. nice job !! can you post a part 3 when the guitar is back together so we get the full effect.

  • Sure, things got busy lately but I'll post a part 3 of me actually playing it - BTW another tutorial of rebuilding my fretless Bass is on the way too
