Your rendition is perfect as it is. One idea though, might be to vary the tune by increasing in "loudness" and notes as you progress in the stanzas towards the end - for effect.

I had open heart surgery in January 2006 - when I was under the effects of the Diprivan , I heard a melody that I had never heard before and it calmed me and soothed me.

Weeks after my surgery, I attended a service at a friend's church and the congregation sang 'Abide With Me,' and I heard my dream song and couldn't stop weeping.

The New York Times had an article about patients in calamitous situations 'hearing' this hymn - -
