I don't get it. If you have a 1622 cello why does it have an endpin? If it was made in 1622 why isn't it tuned in A=415Hz. They made cellos different in the baroque era.
@jameslhenry100 I would assume the endpin was added later, to account for performances nowadays. I bet this guy would stick out if he was in an orchestra or something with that bad boy balanced between his legs! As for the tuning, preference of choice really -- he might tune it to 415 for older pieces.
Beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. Yet I disagree about the scroll. Every piece of carved wood on a cello will effect its sound. The scroll is extremely important.
@FadedFew I disagree with you. The scroll originates, as decoration. At the point in time the instrument was being made it was not uncommon for the scroll to not even be there and instead be an extremely well carved face or something of the like. Luthiers have used that part of the instrument for a very long time as a place where they can openly show off their ability to sculpt wood into a piece of art. They still sometimes do use it for that purpose; expression. Inlight,i argue it not important
