2.They wanted to make the main characters recognizable in a silhouette(such as The Simpsons, which both of the creators have worked on), as well as make it easy for children to draw them.

3.You need to watch more episodes if you think that. Also, it’s one of those shows that relays on running gags and references to past episodes.
