Very pretty bird, but it brings back bad memories of when my wife talked me into getting a macaw. What a mistake. She was a beautiful bird, but wow was it messy and loud. It was a mistake on our part to get such a larger bird for our first one, we had to sell it back because it was alot of work.
Yes, I have been working a lot recently and decided a feathered friend was in order. It's working out well, I could perch the new bird on my finger after the second day!
Oooohhh that was soooo cute!! I had a female pet sparrow I named "Arial" a male cockatiel named "Ceasar" . I( would name here "Delilah" because she is delightful! :-)
You say I am not nice to people, I say I am, you say that is nerdy, implying I should not be nice to people. A conundrum that will keep me up for hours.
Prettybird? that way it will learn to speak it's name really fast.
Question: Do the more intelligent birds like Parrots learn to control their deficatory habbits so that they will hold it till you put them back on their cage perch?
whistle to the bird - an upward chirp. start low pitch and end high pitch, within a half second sweep. that bird will chirp back at you before you finish the sweep.
We have three cockatiels that we got from a lady who raises them. I don't think the coloring really has anything to do with the gender at all. Other then the males do have brighter oranges patches. The most noticeable difference is in behaviour. Males will more vocal and sing/whistle more. They will also have a more dominant attitude. Trust me, they do get their own attitude, just like everything else does.
With the budgies, the distinct colouring of the cere above the beak, blueish for males, brown/creamy for females.
I've read cockatiels sometimes don't have such a clear distinction, like Crazy Mike mentions, the behavior might be a better indicator. So far 'she' has been quite mellow.

For some reason with the bright cheeks, i think of Betty or betty boop the cartoon character
It took me months to get names for my rabbits! Haha Everyone would ask me "have you named them YET" Yeah but now i am happy with their names :)
Such a pretty, mellow bird. I like that. My mom had a few birds, geez, they were a handful

Not sure about the 'holding on to it' factor, I can see the benefit in training for that :-)

how can you tell the gender of a bird? I mean, sometimes its easy because the female is more drab, but how do you tell for a cockatoo?
