  • ... that trick in the beginning was a joke ONLY AN IDIOT would fall for it

  • People will only fail because they don't pay attention....well, attention is expensive.

  • Damn it man.. I was having dinner ! I almost puked

  • There's a fear factor episode where Teller eats like 8 cockroaches and he didn't even have to. He just did it to spite the other contestant lol

  • anyone who falls for the first trick should kill him self.

  • Are they serious? Who falls for that initial trick?

  • Numbers are bullshit, I've always thought that.

  • If anyone cant figure out how the cockroach thing works, you put 5 pairs of 2 in 2 bowls, so 5 in each, and they just mislabel the bowls even when they should be odd, btw, Teller once ate a cockroach on fearfactor, it wasnt even forced, he did it for nothing

  • Too bad, cant con the shopkeepers here because there's no notes for £1. Only coins...

  • -_- people... there POINT is that it's bullshit. you don't need to say how it's bullshit. everyone understand it.

  • Was it just me or Teller looked like he was about to throw up?

  • they did seven pairs of bugs odd number then added one bug to make it even again. pay attentino people

  • I don't understand the trick at the beginning, that's not statistics lying. That's just people not fucking thinking.

  • @JwebGuru sad that it still works huh

  • To me it doesn't seem so odd, that if you put 7 pairs of roaches in the bowls, add one to the bowl that is you want to become even, and do nothing to the other, that one has 8 and the other has 7. It seems very logical. An odd number of pairs, gives two odd numbers. Feel me?

  • @tueblichfeldt An odd number of pairs is an odd number x 2. Anything divisible by 2 is not odd... O.o

  • Adding the numbers and lying about it doesn't make numbers bullshit.

  • why roaches?

  • @ryonafan Exactly, hookers would have been better no? :)

  • Poor Teller :|

  • agh! i hate cockroaches

  • ohhh seeing teller and those roaches gave me a headache

  • For a moment I almost fell for that opening trick. I'm a stupid fucker sometimes.

  • just cause 2n is even, it doesn't mean n is positive

  • Penn and Teller... I love you guys, but you didn't do your research on Luntz. He isn't a numbers guy who is trying to create polls that look attractive. He's a LANGUAGE guy, a COMMUNICATIONS guy. His job is to find the words that produce positive results in public opinion and he's very good at it. Simple example, saying we should spend more money researching "alternative" energy sources finds favor with less people than saying we should spend more researching "RENEWABLE" energy sources.

  • "... Although we DID tell Professor Worst to go fuck himself!"

  • Damn, I was eating when I saw this.

  • 1 + 2 +3 + 4 is ten. And the Three Stooges taught me that. PEACE!

  • Never eat pie and watch this show at the same time FUCK

  • Is it odd that I had hunger pains right when seeing the cockroaches?

  • So glad cockroaches basically don't exist outside of London in the UK, URGH

  • only someone with a low IQ will fall for that bullshit math trick in the beginning.

  • @KnuckleZRP3061 that was the point of the whole trick.

  • @KnuckleZRP3061 It's really, really obvious, I don't think anyone would fall for it. And they didn't think so either, otherwise they would have explained it. They didn't because it is so obvious.

  • LOL People Are Commenting More On The Cockroaches Than The Episode

  • Fuck you, Prof. Worst!

  • The problem with the bowls is that they had two signs. One sign, problem solved!

  • UD!

  • They put 1 roach in each bowl 7 times, so both are odd at the end with 7. What is so special?

  • Man they look a lot less disgusting here then in Australia, far out I hate roaches.

  • Hissing cockroaches :D

  • Beginning reminds me of a metaphor for math in school for most kids. start off using simple terms and logic then try and mindfuck you for their own amusement.

TEACHER: These are numbers, they go from big to small, one at a time

    STUDENT: Got it

TEACHER: Not only can you add and subtract, you can multiply and divide

    STUDENT: Alrighty

TEACHER: There's also square roots, the square is the result of multiplying the number by itself. i.e. 4x4=16 Now whats the square root of 2?

    STUDENT: AW FUCK YOU!

  • i'd take that guy mike and fuck him up

  • trick is adding even numbers all the time, which makes it an even even number (14) 7+7 (two odds make an even) but note infront of the bowls say wrong, which is kind of the trick by lying to you which is odd and not.. kind of hard to get the point, but still somewhat of a trick

  • EWWWWW DID YOU HAVE TO USE ROACHS?

  • I don't think they were trying to fool anyone. The trick is just too obvious, and they know exactly how to fool people. Their point was that a lot of fishy things go on with numbers.

  • And why the hell cockroaches? Couldn't you use just marbles? *vomit*

  • @patilsaurabhr Cockroaches are much more fun, especially when you decide to eat them afterwards.

  • @patilsaurabhr Because it distracts people from what happens. This trick is more about how magicians and tricksters work than about numbers...

  • For some reason i was dumb enough to actually rewind it to check. But then i realized.

  • It's not about the actual numbers it's about believing the people telling you the information.

  • Comment removed

  • Cockroaches... fucking cockroaches! Gah! What's wrong with good ole ping-pong balls?

  • @OidhcheMhath This is SHOWBUSINESS MAN

  • @OidhcheMhath roaches make a better distraction. No one is keeping track of what you're doing while you throwing around wriggly things.

  • I'm angry with numbers. There's like, too many of them.

  • Why is everyone getting their panties wet about the "trick" being false in the beginning? Of course it's a trick, it's supposed to fool you. >_>. Yes It's a pretty silly demonstration, but Jesus Christ, you don't have to raise your blood pressure over 90% because of that.

  • okokok.. i have watched a few of these now and... would i be right in thinking that... teller doesnt speak?

  • @Cypher791 you would...

  • @Cypher791 He can speak, it's just their shtick.

  • @Cypher791 100%

  • i was less concerned with the numbers and more concerned with whether teller actually ate a cockroach

  • @amn3h23h2 They taste like shrimp.

  • @amn3h23h2 hahha ya he did i saw it on fear factor !

  • @amn3h23h2 probably, he always did do the strangest shit

  • @amn3h23h2 He ate one on Fear Factor. Rofl.

  • @amn3h23h2 I remember him eating them on an episode of Fear Factor

  • @amn3h23h2 He prolly did... he did eat one at Fear Factor :P

  • @amn3h23h2 well... he did in fear factor

  • Cockroaches are not really native to the UK, u only se them in foreign restaurants (you see lots of wodlice though) they freak me out

  • Are those home cockroaches = ="?

  • @TheStrawberryLolicon Clean or not, they're still very eww =P. Palmetto bugs are the worst though.

  • haha the bowl of roaches took me a min.

  • Anyone else cringe at the roaches?

  • @AgowTisro No.

  • @munchluxe63 Maybe it's me. I hate roaches.

  • @AgowTisro Maybe it's because I'm used to them...

  • @munchluxe63 Egh, not many things creep me out, but those do it.

  • the cash register trick is from the movie Paper Moon - its a great movie but very rare to find

  • 4:45 There's a building, that has "Science" written on it? Doesn't convince me.

  • Teller once said on fear factor that cockroaches actually taste good.

  • Comment removed

  • @tegolin

    Thanks Einstein

  • @tegolin Exactly ....Its Bullshit.

  • @tegolin no its just to prove that numbers can fuck with you

  • @tegolin yes they did, but the "trick" if u want to call it, is not the number in each bowl, is a psicologic misdirection, they r saying everytime "pair" "even" so ur counting in 2 by 2 so when they add that "odd" roach it mess u up and u try to think in even (and because they didnt say how many times they add pair roaches) in your head there most be in that "odd" bowl an odd number, is not about how many roachs where in each bowl, is how the counting of them make u loose track of what is what.

  • @tegolin In the words of Penn, "that intro was bullshit", it only proves that you can be deceived by words

  • @tegolin you and 14 other people are stupid and didnt understand it, they were showing that the result you expect from demonstration doesnt mean that its true, if you count the roaches you will see its odd amounts, but if you listen to him its all an even distribution, its a metaphore for mathmatical slight of hand. like what caused the banking crash

  • @bricbob1986 I wrote that comment before the intro was finished. BTW this is the 10th fucking time some smartass has tried to try to show off.

  • @tegolin Son, that was the point.

  • @tegolin exactly why its bullshit.

  • @tegolin no shit, sherlock

  • 100% sure that i cant be fooled with that cheap change scam

  • DID HE EAT THE ROACH?

  • @AlexMcPwnr Yes... He did... -.-

  • @Obloose What? They're not poisonous. They're actually kinda sweet, with good protein.

  • @Obloose Poor cockroach. : (

  • No I disagree with the con of the cashier. Seems after "scouting" it's apparent that he is looking for a foreign cashier because he knows that her understanding of the English language is limited and of course she would be confused with his rhetoric.

  • Comment removed

  • fuck fuck fuck! attack of the numbers!

  • The dude gave away my scam. Fuck.

  • For a second I thought this episode was going to be about the show 'numbers'.

  • How did the Asian lose count of money?

  • I was fooled, I was focused on the even that i forget he was only adding one at a time. I guess after a second look i noticed I was being fooled.

  • IM GOING to Las Vegas to be a magician and RIP people off! YES fuck this ged. That's my new job lol

  • o com on, i am 14 and i understnd that

  • Michael is my new hero

  • that odd even thing is ridiculous. anyone who was remotely fooled by that is a fool..

  • Misdirection is a motherfucker.

  • Ok, they proved their point, but that was disgusting nevertheless.

  • the cocroaches reminded me of the episode of fear facktor.... Didint Teller eat an extra amount of cocroaches, even if he didint need to do it? (that episode of fear facktor was great, how Penn was pritty much just cheering Teller on on the sidelines XDDD )

  • @narmolania teller didnt have to eat any. It was the blonde chick that had to. Teller was just showing off

  • There are 3 types of lies: little white lies, damn lies, and statistics - Mark Twain

  • @ITILII Statistics are factual as facts but can be as wrong as misinformed facts.

  • @SniperViper1000 they can be manipulated easy. Statics are almost impossible to really show the truth that's why they usually have an error of margin.

  • @cwood4ever Its called margin of error Einstein.

  • What happened? I couldn't watch.

  • @XxMissNoNamexX well, Teller ate a cockraoch. I wish I was making this up.

  • the amounts were even but the bowls weren't even

  • this made me want to buy a lotto ticket

  • i know you dont have to be a math major to get the math, but AS a math major i was screaming that's not that complicated! ... but then the point was just mislabeled bowls and i felt like a jackass

  • Im pretty sure teller put 7 in each bowl then added an extra one to the left bowl making its contents even :P Penns right, They lied

  • @dizimz That's exactly what they did. Put the point is that by calling the bowls "even" because they're evenly split, and then midway into the experiment changing the definition of that "even"-sign, they did exactly what statistics often get abused for: making you think it's saying something it isn't.

  • Numbers, like mathematics, and science, is an entirely human creation made to better understand reality. As such, it is bound by the flaws as it was made and is utilized by flawed beings.

  • Grrrrr.. Numbers aren't dumb. People who can't understand numbers are dumb, and people who manipulate numbers to suit their purpoases (i.e. government) are just plain evil, not dumb.

  • To do a proper numbers trick "prove" that 0 = 1.

To do a shitty numbers trick... well... just do whatever they did in the intro.

  • @LordZabujca

the 0=1 trick is still pretty lame

  • @dummbatz48 You speak as if there was only one of those. True, they usually involve simply secretly dividing both sides by 0 and calling it a day, but there are other approaches - like "proving" that a+b = c in a right triangle (by dividing it into a rectangle and two smaller triangles, and then doing the same to those two triangles, with an infinite recursion depth), and going from there. It all hinges on the delivery, but those guys shouldn't have a problem.

  • Why did it have to be roaches? Bleh!

  • @M0US3P0T4TO Actually, the roaches are the only at least slightly clever part there. Your mind is supposed to be so filled with "YUCK ROACHES" that you won't be able to notice the crappy math. It's basically the only way to even hope to make this work without first ensuring that the audience would be completely stoned or drunk.

  • @LordZabujca Well, in that case, I am not sure they succeeded in their mission. I don't think it counts as a working trick if the viewer fast forwarded through it!

  • @LordZabujca

Looks more like the roaches are stoned and or drunk.

  • the 'trick' at the beginning is just a play on words...

what is suggested isn't always what is true.

count how many roaches go into the bowls.

figure out the rest on your own.

  • Anyone who doesn't get the intro trick is a retard.

  • Everybody knows he used the trick as a metaphor for "numbers don't lie, but people do", right?

  • fucking right that trick was bullshit!

  • Teller always cracks me up.

  • teller is fucking metal

  • The trick at the start was pretty terrible.

  • @Bangell99 Haha, I suspect it was pretty satirical, it's quite obvious there is no "trick" involved, just a misuse of language.

  • did anyone else find that that this didint work at all your only adding one at a time to each bowl, it never even occured to me that it should be even, im shocked that anyone might think that..

  • @chaoplexity

he just put 7 in each bowl and declared it was even before he even started to count.

by adding one to 7 you get 8 a true EVEN number

  • @chaoplexity

yeah i assumed that was going to be the trick before the second pair

  • @chaoplexity did it occur to anyone they werent trying to pull off a crazy trick and that its a prelude to the rest of the show to watch for tricks like that?

  • Comment removed

  • @whysers of course by saying "tricks like that" you are implying that it is supposed to be a sort of trick, lol

  • @chaoplexity actually im implying that theyre trying to get you watching and being skeptical for tricks which involve numbers and double logic.

  • @chaoplexity yeah I think they assume the worst in their viewers

  • @chaoplexity i was completely drawn into it and im not an idiot, had to watch it again, then realised how stupid id been. its crazy how dumb we can be sometimes gettin fooled by stuff like this

  • @chaoplexity Yeah... I'd say it's the single worst number trick referenced, by a fair margin. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that anyone who'd be fooled by it is either very young or challenged - in the former case, you shouldn't be putting ideas like this about parity in their head, and in the latter case, it's just mean to pull shit like this.

  • @chaoplexity Yeah, I wasn't exactly sure what the point they were trying to make was. They had the same number of roaches per bowl, hence an even number, 2*n, but that doesn't mean n should be even. Really weird.

  • @chaoplexity haha you and 127 people got punked son

  • like most entertainer, penn and teller are BULLSHIT!

  • If the odds is 20 times greater, then the chance 1/20. Cool stats professor..

  • 3:00

    Tellers first orgasm

  • I like the whole numbers trick in the beginning, simple but entertaining. Or at least it WOULD be if I could get the image of those cockroaches out of my mind. I really feel sorry for Teller at this point.

  • Penn has the exact same voice as Jeff Green from Curb Your Enthusiasm

  • @Thisnameistaken11 he also sounds a bit like george carlin and lewis black

  • @Thisnameistaken11 i was just thinking that

  • @Thisnameistaken11 wow he does

  • numbers? I do wanna see what they are gunna do with that! lol

  • Comment removed

  • Awwww, dammit teller.

  • These are silly math equations. It's not magic.

  • holy shit dude the beginning is cool

  • @Buckethead7777777777 How is the beginning cool? All they did was add cockroaches one at a time until there was an odd number in both bowls, then add and extra to the "odd" bowl, making it have an even number of roaches. They simply labeled them "even" from the start, because both bowls had an equal (or "even") number of roaches.

  • @TheKingdomofErnor I agree...not that cool, or impressive

  • @TheKingdomofErnor That's the point, the whole purpose of that was to show everyday common number "tricks". Some people, like Buckethead, will easily fall for it. You, on the other hand, are smart, and can see through it.

  • its used on us all the time

  • You would have to be an idiot to fall for that cockroach thing.

  • @CENSOREDFORSEX no you wouldnt, you would just not need to be thinking about it

  • @TheNimblewright It was a stupid demonstration, but it was added for the sake of stupid people. Smart people don't need this show, we can already see through the stuff they talk about.
