  • Why is it said that western Canada hates Trudeau? I can't speak for the prairies, but I know several Trudeau-ites here in British Columbia. This may be because Trudeau's policies were more aligned with British Columbian politics than with Albertan politics.

  • Comment removed

  • @ReformOrRevolution western Canada is mostly conservative. Reform Party conservative. It's mostly Alberta tho I think. Conservatives like zeal and patriotism and manliness. Liberals like intellectuals. Liberals value intellectualism over so called "manliness".

  • @Freethinker12341 I disagree somewhat with that - British Columbia has two parties, the NDP, which are leftist, and the Liberals, who have become right wing although they were elected on a centrist platform. Here in BC our provincial politics is becoming more leftist even though our federal politics are history mixed between NDP, Social Credit and Conservative politics.

  • @ReformOrRevolution wrong. I'm a member of the liberal party, so I'm in a better position to know the liberals are still a centrist party. The NDP tries to make them look right wing. We're not right wing. I'm surprised you'd say such a thing.

  • We need to replace the queen with this guy on our money

  • He was Canadas greatest defender,....Had Clark remained PM in 1980 this country would not exist as it does now,....Harper is a dud and a bore in comparison,...Not to mention a dictator,,,,

  • The man would have demolished Haper and the Conservative Reform Alliance Party on wit alone.

  • my vote for one of the WORST PMs in Canadian history.

  • Trudeau was a very thoughtful and intelligent man. We need more politicians of his calibre who say what they mean and mean what they say. Chretien obviously took a lot from Trudeau.

  • Why aren't you on the $20 bill?

  • @retrogamer149 My thoughts exactly.

  • Canadian history is very fortunate of having Trudeau.. A true fighter for democracy and skilled in the use of the rule o law.

  • I'll go ahead and say what should've been said three pages ago:

    MajBlood, you're fucking retarded.

p.s. it's not 'cause you're being controversial, it's 'cause you're shit at doing it

  • @TheElMoIsEviL Tory scum.

  • I may vote Conservative, but I know good hair when I see it

  • @asdfvcxas If you vote Conservative you are scum.

  • @MajBlood No, if I vote conservative, I am Canadian, just as those who vote Liberal, NDP, or Green are too. If you have a problem with those who excersize their choice to vote and belong to different political parties you should not be in a country where these rights exist. Now, I don't care to know your political affiliation seeing as your remark implies that you lack the knowledge of our Canadian political institutions and instead resort to some primitive "us versus them" mentality. Suck it!

  • @asdfvcxas Lol? My minor is political science child, with my major in history, specializing in Canadian history. The ideals of Conservatism are evil. Cast aside the worker for the sake of the elite. Take away social programs and give big businesses free reign to terrorize the public. No anybody with an sense would not support those evil ideals. It is incomprehensible.

  • @MajBlood Well it's apparent that you weren't studying English. Neo Liberalism is what you are arguing against, not conservatism. Also, give some examples of such injustices of favouring elitism that was not done by the past Liberal and Conservative governments. The Conservative party of Canada is just built upon the dentations of governments prior to it. Can't we all just get along? No, as long as ignorance is deployed by individuals like you, actual intellectual conversations are but fantasy.

  • @asdfvcxas Sorry but I don't negotiate with evil. Stephen Harper wants to cut arts programs, social programs, he was to help out big business like McDonalds. He wants a smaller government. He prefers smaller taxes over welfare. How can you support an evil man like that?

  • @MajBlood How is any of what you said "evil"? What I think defines evil is ignorance because ignorance spreads bullsh*t, and then people act on the BS. Maybe I am not such an evil person, I may not go to church but that is a problem the big lady and I will settle in the future, you can't judge me for being evil based off half baked arguments you use, and I can't do the same against you. You're just a little too slow for intellectual flame wars over youtube. lol

  • @asdfvcxas Well I would say that Conservatism is based on ignorance. Can you imagine someone saying "why should I pay money to help other people, derp!" Um because it is fucking good and you'd want them to help you too? People who are Conservatives are stuck up douchebags who've never faced harships in their lives. Which is why a lot of rich snobs vote Conservative. Essentially, Conservatism says "I don't care about other people, only I matter!"

  • @MajBlood You think conservatism is about the individual? What do you think the foundation of liberalism is? Liberalism is inherently more individualistic than conservatism. Conservatism is about tradition, order, security, and the good of the community over the individual. Who do you think introduced the Charter of Rights and Freedoms? That's the definition of individualism supplanting the community or nation-state! It's nice to see kids interested in politics, but give the rhetoric a rest ;)

  • @shaner1902002 That is hardly an example of individualism. Sure the Charter defends minorities, but defending minorities who get really shit on. The will of the majority remains prominent. I think you blew that one out of proportion.

  • @MajBlood It's not blown out of proportion at all. Look at how many individualistic cases go to the SC every year. Look at Rodriguez v. BC, R. v. Oakes, Quebec v. Ford, and Andrews v. LSBC. All of these cases define individualism in the sense that it defies the collective will as legislated by Parliament. It treats corporations and minorities as individuals and that erodes the social fabric of Canada. Nothing could be more individualistic than that.

    You're dead wrong on this.

  • @shaner1902002 So are you against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms? Yes, I believe in a collective community but some concessions have to be drawn somewhere. What would you have done for poor minorities who are discriminated against.

  • @MajBlood No, I'm not against the Charter per se, but with s.33 it's essentially useless. As you should know, the Tories were against the Charter. Consequently, you can't argue in good faith that the Tories are more individualistic as they still routinely oppose SC decisions where individual right outweighs the collective good (look at Insite or O. Khadr). That title belongs to the Liberals and their diehard belief in individual rights.

The reality is the LPC is far more individualistic.

  • @MajBlood Ohh take off. I don't give a hoot about your opinion about my voting history, and I don't give a hoot about yours either, what I am concerned about is the amount of people voting in our federal elections. We need the classes in Canada to ALL vote, if we are to have a true representation in democracy, then democracy has to represented by ALL of US. I pledged my vote to a political party, ALL of my friends do the same, we have to be the change we want, whether for LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE

  • @asdfvcxas Well I guess I can agree on that. Too many kids these days don't know the importance to voting. Everyone should vote. Except for women, of course.

  • @MajBlood Women? for real? The state should disallow women the right of voting? No, my mom, my grandma, aunts, and sister should not be allowed to vote? They should! You sicken me! and you say I am the evil one! That would mean 50% of the population of the country would be disregarded, the conservatives would have a a majority of 18% had elections been in that lens. You're undemocratic, which is ironic when you say you study political science! Go back in your hole!

  • @asdfvcxas How does being undemocratic, which I am not, have any sort of irony with studying political science? Generally, women are less intelligent, unstable, and too emotional. This makes them unsuitable for political office and being able to vote. Simply put, some people don't want is best for them and need to have decisions made for them. Do you even know why women got the vote in the first place? I suggest you read into it. It's an eye opener.

  • @MajBlood Man, what the hell is wrong with you? Generally speaking has no validity in any factual argument, what you're saying is just moronic. I am doubtful that you even know what political science is. And yes, saying that you're ironic holds validity because women are a part of the political democratic process and you seem to forget you live in todays Canada, not 19th century Canada, if you knew politics, you would know what you're saying involves nothing political, just stupidity.

  • @asdfvcxas Politics is not a synonym for equality. And generally speaking has plenty of validity. Generally speaking, 16 year old kids are too immature and unwise to be allowed to vote. Though I am sure there are some kids who are wise enough we have to draw the line somewhere. However, according to you, kids should be allowed to vote, since generally speaking is not valid.

  • @MajBlood I am actually for kids who are 16 the right to vote, it gets them involved in the political system at a younger age. I think that particularly that in municipal and provincial elections they would have platforms that are relevant to their lives. Who are you to say that 16 year olds are too immature to vote, when I was 16 I knew the political parties and had an opinion, people in my grade did too, if elections effect everyone in Canada I don't think it's radical to extend them the vote

  • @MajBlood Are you saying that Canadian teenagers are not capable of making decisions that will effect them in the future? I think if we extend the youth the vote, Canada would be more fair and balanced, so what if a few make decisions that you would oppose, that's their freedom to choose. The Canadian government that is voted in the elections would be the Canadian government that would effect them in the years these responsible teenagers become responsible adults.

  • @MajBlood Ah, but here's the question. Why should 16-year-olds be taxed? That's taxation without representation, and the US had an entire revolution over the matter. 16-year-olds have jobs, drive cars, and buy products with our own money. If government feels that persons under 18 shouldn't have the vote, government should not tax them, otherwise it is theft, until unlimited executive and legislative power is given to our political leaders, at which point we become a dictatorship.

  • @ReformOrRevolution They do that in Canada? Admittedly I didn't have a lot of Summer jobs so I didn't notice. If this is true it is major bull shit and should be changed. Indeed it is nothing more than theft.

  • @MajBlood

They tax under-18s all over the world! You're right, it is theft. If under-18s get a job we shouldn't have to pay an income tax, unless we get the vote.

  • @MajBlood I doubt your minor is political science. If it was, you wouldn't be so ignorant as to cast aside a political ideology based on nothing more than YOUR interpretation of it. You would have the intellectual capacity to understand that conservatism is not defined by what you claim, when in fact, canadian conservatism is much different from the neoliberalism you seem to think it's synonymous with. What you wrote defines the Liberals of the 90s and 2000s better than it defines the CPC.

  • People from the West coast just aren't used to someone with a spine. The ability to stick to your guns

  • Who is the interviewer??

It sounds like one of the two interviewers on the steps of the House of Parliament during the infamous "Just Watch me!" piece?

  • Is Trudeau speaking so softly or is the man's demeaner calm, cool, and collected? Trudeau was not easily provoked or agitated. His belief system was always firm, and his matter-of-fact delivery is probably what upset so many people. At the time, I hated him, As I look back I admit I was wrong, and that his efforts helped pave a way for a better Canada that I enjoy.

  • 5:00 Why is Trudeau speaking soo softly.

He should tell this reporter to stick to the substantive matters not these trivial matters.

  • Thank you for this wonderful footage! Pierre Trudeau was an absolute gem in Canadian history.

  • FIRST!!! And probably only!
