Yes the 6400+ Black is the best AMD CPU to buy, Great price, very fast, and overclockable. Fastest at least until the newer batch of Phenom CPUs come out. I am not going to buy a Phenom CPU unless It's at least 2.8GHz-3GHz, and 500MHz Overclockable

The HD3870 are in general faster than the 2900XT, even under highest resolutions even if the memory interface is only set to half. It'll be cool to see HD3870X2 within two months, packing in 640 Streamprocessors is rather fancy, especially when making 1280SP during Crossfire.

Otherwise, we'd all still be using OC'd P4's. Even a Q6600 beats pretty much anything AMD can throw against it. Intel's out on 45nm while AMD's just getting to 65nm. Not to mention the difference in the benchmarks, both synthetic and real world.

somewat true, but intel fails to deliver good mobos. espeically to support the new 45nm. Only 1 good mobo, and its pretty much junk. AMD has good mobos and its bios is an ez setup. Intel you have to check out everything and make sure its up to par, otherwise it wont work. AMD has one good chip, the 6400 black addition. The quad is trash for amd.

I'm not fond of the Intel X38/48 chipset mobos, to be honest. Especially their lack of SLI support, but that's mostly Nvidia's choice. I'd rather use NV's 790i with SLI, presuming the spat between Intel and Nvidia resolves itself and we have Yorkfield 45nm support.

I hope AMD gets back in the game here. Competition is good for all of us, whether you prefer Intel or AMD. So far, all I've seen of AMD's quad core is a pretty logo. :x

yes, but the e6600 is much cheaper, but on anuther note, an amd athlon 64 x2 6400+ black edition(black edition is made just for overclocking) is faster then the e6600 and is cheaper.(runs at 3.2ghz and costs $180)

lolak47, Intel costs you more because their memory controller is located on the motherboard. This means Intel uses more watts then AMD who chose to  place their memory controller on-chip.

ATI isn't a waste of money by any means, but they have no high end graphic card option. Sure the 2900's are upper middle, but they have nothing on the 8800 GTX's. I have not seen acceptable frame rates on newer games from these cards(I was considering them). Given they are a cost effective solution, they just can't deliver the performance of Nvidia's higher end cards.

Nice job putting the vid together....AMD and ATI is a good combo. It still holds true that ATI has better quality with lower frame rates and Nvidia has more frame rates though they have come a LONG way in the field of image quality. I think both companies have good graphics, it's mostly a matter of preference. As for processors, it's a tough call. AMD has some really good products on the way and out there but Intel does too. All I have to say is if AMD dies, we all lose.

You can get two of his Sapphire HD2900xt for the price of an XFX 8800gtx. Also Crossfire gets mcuh better results than SLI. Last, HD2900xt is made to compete with 8800gts not the GTX or Ultra.

I get 9800pts in 3dMark06 with same configuration but with a X2 6000+. And as a reminder, remember DX9 is about optimization, you don't need to spell out "DX9 gaming" that hard since DX10 only optimizes data transfers and optimization of vital components. Kind of bad performance while recording too, I think you lack some drivers.

I've always like ATI better for some reason but I'm probably getting an Nvidia if I get a new computer because HD2900xt's are harded to get wher I'm buying. But they're essentially the same products with usually around 3-4 fps difference. Doesn't really matter what brand you have as long as the card performs.

At higher resolutions the framerate difference between Nvidia and ATI is more like 5-10. I would suggest Nvidia, cheaper cards and more power and texture abilities. For instance the 8800 GTS out performs the 2900XT in some areas and costs almost 150 $ less.

You're thinking about the 8800GTS 320 mb which doesn't compare to 2900xt at all. The 640 mb 8800gts which is the one they benchmark with is more expensive than 2900xt. The 8800gts rarely outperforms 2900xt, which is what is interesting. Why would Nvidia have better texture abilities, that comes down to the graphics engine, and both cards support equal amounts of anistropic filtering+antialiasing
