  • that looks cool, and just what i wanted to xmas, but i coudlnt find one at the time.. FUCK!

  • Maniak u have to adjust your audio latency In whatever software u are using

  • great video. dude is jamming hard.

  • Did you notice any delay between pressing keys and actually hearing the sound? Cause a friend of mine brought over his Novation Launchpad the other day, and there was some delay in the pads which made fast playing sound really out of tempo.

Also, is this controller a good idea for begginers like me? I have used FL studio in the past, but without any plugin.

  • Such an inspiring video.

    Thank You

  • e basta.

  • Dude i love what u do with the mkII i plan on saving up for one. Good work. Go pro with that shit dude.

  • i couldnt gather any information from this video. graphic gimmick

  • awsome stuff loved it :)

  • It´s a Master

  • Damn.... impressive

  • Fake n gay

  • why didnt he just do this at home?

  • I have no clue what I just saw...

  • That was freagin nuts! I love it

  • I got one of these but for me it is impossible to drum out drums like the dude in this video... is it possible to adjust the response of the keys?? like.... at the moment... my drum wont sound unless the key reaches the complete bottom... making it almost impossible to hit the keys in time in my opinion...?

  • @MarlonTeVrede

If you are talking about the onboard drum pads, you should be able to edit the velocity curves within whatever software you are using. Most plugins also allow 'per-preset' velocity characteristics as well. With keeping the beat, you can try quantizing to a set BPM within the software.

  • @MetalSlab

    Got it working now, thanks!!

  • I just got this keyboard and so far im veyr happy with it.. the only thing im wondering about is if I can adjust the moment when a sound is triggered when pressing down a key. At the moment sounds are triggered when my keys hit the complete bottom making it hard to stay in metronome. Any suggestions?

  • Maniac

  • it s awesome!

  • novation always has awesome commercials like this!! whenever ableton gives us an example of "the endless possibilities" its always shitty lol

  • does the novation work or play well with logic? most of these vids show ableton live.

  • Hey I was wondering does this keyboard work well with other programs? Like Fl Studio 10 or Reson 6?

  • You guys should post the artists name, that was seriously decent!

  • Hey guys, who's this one playing?

    Any DJ nickname or something?

    keyboard is awesome :)

  • to a begginer isnt novation SLII a litlle bit complex?

Compared to the akai in therms of effects it is more confortable and pratical in this one?

and finaly Does the novation ultranova have the same capabilities in the beat making compared to the SL II

I would be most aprecciated if you could clarify me

    thanks a lot

  • @naodigo12 Both the Ultranova and the SL MK II send typical MIDI information which can trigger samples. The Ultranova has drum patches on board to allow you to create your own drum sounds. The SL MK II has drum pads however and the Ultranova doesn't. The SL MK II is a MIDI Controller, whereas the Ultranova is a Synthesizer / Midi Controller, so they are different beasts.

  • @NovationTV why the hell would it be more complex? there just knobs sliders and pads laddy!

  • @naodigo12 If you are specifically talking about how the camera switches perspective from what seems the same position really quick that is probably a zoomed edit which they hard cut back to the full resolution. This is probably the case since you will notice the quality of the video is more pixelated till they cut back fully. That indicates it was probably a digital zoom done within the video software.

  • @MrDeemsMusic That is probably why they did the bit reduction effect with the angular lines. It makes it look intentional and hides the pixelation (or rather makes it look intentional).

  • AWESOME!!! now do classical gas

  • damn awesome man...

  • dope

  • holy shit.

  • It's an awesome performance, but it looks fake because he is sitting in the street, nothing but one cable going to his laptop, where are the speakers?

  • @woodswalker88 The performance was recorded into Ableton Live and edited to the video - what you see is one take, completely live.

  • @NovationTV

...nonsense. no doubt a talented guy, but there are so many things going on here that he never plays in the video, so how did they become part of the audio? not unless there are pre-sequenced bits or using ableton to randomize which is the same difference. if you are saying that you filmed him composing for an extended period, then did post work on the mix, and then refit it back to the video, including cutting lots of the video footage, then sure, otherwise I call you on your BS.

  • ...2

we see clear evidence of post manipulation at :13. Come on guys, don't sell us lies. Show a little integrity.

  • @evilsnakes1 Lol, what are you on about? How is video editing clear evidence of post manipulation? Just because we are on youtube (and we all know the usual "youtube commenter" archetype) doesn't mean you have to make unfounded accusations. Pretty please. :)

  • @MrDeemsMusic

"The performance was recorded into Ableton Live and edited to the video - what you see is one take, completely live."

    ...so says NovationTV.

If that statement hadn't been made I wouldn't have said anything, but it was stated so I challenge it. At :13 we unquestionably see that there has been a video edit. And if there was a video edit, there had to be a matching audio edit. So how is this in one take? Simple: it isn't. This is unfounded?

  • @evilsnakes1

Shit, just a count of all the camera angles proves there was post work done. And sorry, perhaps you don't know what "post" means: it means they did edits AFTER the performance and so this is not truly a live performance (perhaps you thought I meant that I know there was post audio processing done, which, agreed, I have no proof of other than i KNOW this was not one straight-up live performance).

  • @evilsnakes1I don't think you quite understand the process so I'll try to explain it. In the video you can tell they used more than 1 camera. So what they do is record the entire performance to each camera in one take. Then once they have all the audio and video recorded they will first off sync each camera so it matches up to the audio and his actions all on a single timeline. Once it is all synced they can cut between each camera freely in sync and add little effect edits too.

  • @MrDeemsMusic

...you are talking nonsense now. watch again at :13 and tell me that is anything but kludged together. they even try to hide it. first take he pulls his hand from the keyboard, the next from his knee. that is not camera angle trickery, it is clear as day. as for the cameras, how many do you think they have? count the angles. and none of them, not once, end up in the shot from another. truly amazing for a one-take affair. this discussion is ridiculous.

  • @evilsnakes1 You do realize that they may have synced the cameras by eye right? Its not necessarily going to be perfectly synced. But since you are going to be rude I'll just come right out and state the obvious fact that you are another dumb youtube commenter who thinks he knows everything. I honestly don't know why I ever bother having a civil discussion with people on youtube. ha. Reply if you want, but I'm done here. Good day sir :P

  • @MrDeemsMusic

watch this from beginning to end and note the many continuity errors with the placement of the cable. it's that simple.

you speak of civility but call me dumb? gloves off. straight up, you are a clown.

  • @evilsnakes1 If you ever see behind the scenes videos for movies you will notice the clapper they use. What this does is give a cue to all the cameras so when they add the audio (which is recorded separately from video)they can easily sync everything up on a time line and easily switch between different cameras or cut to another video and then easily cut back to the original scene so its still in sync to the audio. I can clarify this more and provide some link if you'd like.

  • @MrDeemsMusic

...i don't understand your point. i know exactly what you are talking about, but i don't understand your point. obviously there was syncing done, but that has nothing to do what i'm talking about. i am pointing out clear evidence that this was done in multiple takes. if you want to argue that regardless of multiple takes, everything your hear was in fact recorded as the video recorder ran, i don't dispute that. i dispute that this is a "one take performance".

  • @evilsnakes1 What you are saying sounds very contradicting to me. I honestly don't get why you feel this wasn't a "one take performance". Explain to me in detail why you think it wasn't. I'm not trying to be condescending towards you. I just don't get why you think the video and audio wasn't done in a single take.

  • @MrDeemsMusic

straight up, :13. there are prol others, but that one sealed the deal for me.

  • @evilsnakes1 In the video there is clearly a bunch of loops already loaded in his session. They aren't trying to say he make the entire track on the spot. All he did was perform it live by jumping scenes and doing a bunch of effect changes while playing some of the lead elements of the track. Nobody can create a song with this much depth on the fly with just loops. They are in no way trying to claim it was performed as such. Read up on how performance artists actually perform.

  • @woodswalker88 he probably used audio hijack.

  • NASTY!!!!

  • @ CHAOTIK...i'd proly do the same thing!

this dude killed it. i love it.

  • how awesome are the keys on this? are they weighted,semi-weighted?

i want a midi controller with keys that feel good

  • @BassMurdarah The keys on the SL MK II are semi weighted.

  • @BassMurdarah

Those are the best. I am a piano player and love them.

  • what program do you use in your laptop ?

  • @Mohlaoua Ableton Live is in use on this video.

  • @NovationTV Thank you

  • Comment removed

  • Not sure if it was the equipment or the sound but, I got a big one.

  • is everything controlled via the sl mkII? how did he do the glitches? 1:35

  • name is program music producction?

  • @antipuc1

    ableton live

  • Is this good with Reason?

  • "fuck yeah im getting alot of money:D!"

    battery runs out*

    "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

  • Who is this guy! Man he's got things nailed!! Where is he based? I'd like to book him for a set/gig in Bristol! :-)

  • If I saw this guy busking in the street, I'd give him my wallet, my keys and my smartphone.

  • @CHAOTIKProject However he's a professional :P

  • its a hobo with a mac book

  • Make your god damn products more affordable!!!! X(

  • @PoorlyDrawnDevil1 300 bucks? Are you serious? Novation makes some of the most affordable gear on the market. Buy an MPC then bitch about Novation being expensive.

  • @IxxsuffocatexxI Knock, Knock. How There? A CHILD without a job! -_-

  • @PoorlyDrawnDevil1 Mow a few lawns. I don't have a job either, but I still have over $2000 in dj equipment.

  • what synth is being used? or is it preset that comes with the kit?

  • Fake, playback.

  • Беспантовое музло)

  • very very nice - I am about to purchase (when I get home from my work abroad!) the Ultranova - your gear fkn rocks

  • needs some DIIIRRRTTYYYYY bass

  • hi, can you tell me please...

can every single button on the 25 RMT SL be midi programmable ? i need this to know because i would like it to use it with traktor scratch software... so i would love if i could program every button on the 25 RMT SL.. tnx

  • @MujagaWudakhi yes and yes

  • this guy has to work with pendulum as well. as i have the same hard on.

  • this is cool and I dont doubt you could eventually do this with a mk2 but setting this thing up is a bitch i cant figure out how to use the joystick, touch pad, or how to use automap at all. the program seems completely irrelaphant to ableton.

  • Are Remote 25sl and 25sl MkII not the same keyboards? I'm stuck

  • @avoidbadnews visit sweetwaters homepage...there you can see a list of functions for the different devices:)

  • damn!!! thats good

  • @novationtv can you plugin another keyboard via Midi?

  • @misterDjantic yes if there is a "midi thru" port...but would not recommend more than 2 other keyboards at a time...something to do with processing/signal flow and so on...:)

  • The big boss !

  • I love that you went for a stick over wheels. This is the primary reason I just ordered the SL 61 MKII. Very much looking forward to playing with it as soon as possible.

  • dont buy it, unless you really know you need one...

  • this is awesome DUDE!

  • any way to get this project file somehow, so that the owners of this keyboard could try out this for themselves :D ?

  • So sweet.

  • how much for it?

  • this one or the M audio axiom pro 49 ? which one is better

  • @POODYMAN2010 i'd say go with novation. the m-audio had some complaints for the "sticky keys"... but you're on a novation video,so i'll guess you're mostly going to hear the same answer. better go to your local music store and try out both of them for yourself :)

  • nice work, love it. just started my christmas list

  • @moreausylvain Actually, this video is entirely possible. It's just very, very difficult :)

  • @moreausylvain The sound is coming from the live controlled session in Ableton via the laptop. This performance is 100% as you see and hear it in the video. We have obviously synced the recorded audio of this live session to the video afterwards to enable the best quality demonstration for our viewers.

  • @NovationTV don't forget that you obviously quantized some of it and added some things that went wrong. for example the snare drum hit @1:11

  • @moreausylvain owned.

  • @moreausylvain You know your stuff!

  • @moreausylvain Have you seen this guy play live?

That day you will realize that this video isn't a fake.

  • @moreausylvain if you see it with care, it's true. it's fake, a playback. And at the start of the video, is evident

  • Just bought the 49 key version :)

  • this is a synth and midi?

  • @chingueasumadretodo This is not a synthesizer, it is a standard midi controller which controls your DAW's mixer, plugins and transport functions.

  • I just bout a 25 SL MK2 and im trying to figure out how to navigate from one Audio track to another as seen here on this video. Also the LED under the mixer fader control on my MK2 does not light up, is this normal or how can I fix this.

Please help I know this keyboard is really powerful but Im just trying to see if the preset on this video is available or did he map everything?

  • @fthdavfth im also wondering the same thing!

  • @fthdavfth Please contact Support via our website and we will do our best to help.

  • I bought one of these earlier this year. I touch almost nothing else unless I'm recording a string or piano track, then it's to an 88 key weighted controller. If you're considering it, do it. I use it 99% of the time for everything I do. Automap control of KOMPLETE and softsynths is so quick, easy, and useful. It's been all over the planet with me, and I look forward to airport layovers now.

  • @jimpennnn I bet, I couldn't imaine myself needing any other controller, besides maybe a launchpad for fun.

But I am getting this and the Maschine, and between those two, I won't need another thing!!!

  • Hell, this video made me finally decide for the novation sl mkII 61. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, and i'm excited as hell :D i just simply can't wait a couple more hours :)

  • That was about the coolest thing I have seen today!

It is so amazing, I like how they have him sitting in the street, laying down a sick mutha truck'n track, Live, with nothing more than this keyboard, which just happens to be a 25 key. I would say this is the only piece of equipment I will need.

I am in love with that board!

Good job dude, that was sick

  • hey just wondering if i can get some advice i just purchased a novation remote 37 sl.. should i have held out for the mk2 as they did not have it in sotck at the time or will i be ok with the one i bought and just get the pro upgrade for automap.. right now im using ableton live 8 and devices from arturia andlennar fidtal at the moment

  • video effects are rubbish :(

  • there is no way he's playing that shit in perfectly in time.

  • LOL , how many times did he have to do the video before he got it right??

And how many parts of him touching the laptop did you have to cut out ?lololol

    "sorry 1 more time"

haha prob took half a day.

Don't be fooled ppl they make it look so easy but it just isn't.

  • @kuyomayasaka of course its not easy other wise everyone could make music...but i think this is trying to show you is how fast you can control and record on the fly just like with a real instrument. and thats what im looking for to have a sound in your head and then be able to record it and add other instruments and fx to your first idea.

  • So it connects MIDI via USB and is bus powered through the macbook?

  • alright i have the novation launchpad wud it be better to get this or ur sl zero mk 2

  • @leadfarmer13 This completely depends on your needs as a musician. If you want to be able to play keys as well as mix / launch clips then the SL MK II is the best option. If you do not need keys, the Zero SL MK II will be suitable.

  • @leadfarmer13 I own a 25sl (not mkii) and a launchpad, and now all I carry around with me is a nanokontrol, nanokey, and launchpad. I barely use my uc-33e anymore, either. So my recommendation if you're looking into more novation stuff is a zero and a korg nanokey (don't buy the icon ikey, I have one and it's trash; believe it or not, the nanokey blows it away). But to be honest, just spend $100-110 and get a nanokey and nanokontrol - automapped knobs are pretty useless, you'd be surprised.

  • not impressed by this advertisement!

  • How does he do that loop repeating sound at 25 seconds?

  • How does he do that loop repeating sound at 25 seconds.

  • i wish hobos played music like this

  • outstanding!

  • how do you assign the drum pads to be on different midi channels to the encoders and faders?

I want to have a drum rack set to channel 5 for example, the encoders only work with ableton's auto assign on channel 1, and the keys can be on any channel really.

However i only see the option to change the midi channel for the keys or the controls, no separate option for the pads.

Please help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

  • Have you done a full version of this track? It's epic!!!! i keep watching the vid just to listen to it!!!!

  • that was absolutely flawless. i am just amazed.

  • I just love how my Zero SL was impossible to program and backlights just decided to fail... Oh,thanks guys for trying to sell me your pro software through your old automap software... I don't know, maybe that should have came with the Zero in the first place...

BIGGEST WASTE OF YOUR MUSIC MONEY AND TIME!!!!

You can quote me on that!!!

    Artist Name: Qorser

  • Wow... Had to be one hell of a rehearsal before doing live... This is one sick mix!!!

  • This guy should hook up with Jeremy Ellis on the Maschine...I'm getting sick thinking bout it...

  • hey NOVATION, this is such an amazing product of urs.... i'm frm India and i wish to get this for myself . i have a cousin living in London so can u mail me the details of the store and the price details in London so that i can ask my cousin to buy it for me?

    djshuv@live.com

  • Matt If you composed all this live on the fly you are a frickin' genius.

  • i have the remote mark 1. setting up the templates is a major ball-ache

  • what cable did you connected Novation sl to your laptop. i try a cheap interface but doesn't work.

  • PRODIGY!!!

  • @HanohanoKagawa hell yea!! :D

  • if i see this guy in the subway ill tell him to treat his mac book with a lil more respect....

leaving it on the cement like that...smh

  • Jesus!!! <3 Amazing

  • :O

  • If I see this guy in the subway id give him a buck

  • @ricktbdgc

LOL-I might just give him a buck and a quarter!

  • @ricktbdgc i'd give him my first born.

  • @LIGHTRONIX lol

  • @ricktbdgc If the guy before you didn't steal his shit...

  • i bet he spent hours setting this up to play live now

  • Comment removed

  • nice performance......who is this? no mention of the name of this dude in the description nor video...wtf

  • @midihendrix he's in almost every novation product video, lol.

  • @midihendrix matt derbyshire

  • @midihendrix Matt Derbyshire, looks like he's a Novation Rep.

  • @midihendrix His name is Matt Derbyshire and he also did the Launchpad demos. He works at Novation.

  • But I cant wait so I'll ask my questions ;)

1.How he triggers the start of the song? Why is it starts playing scene when he had only pressed a key?

2.Im using this live template, all seem to work fine, but the clip dont start to record(loop) while being armed before. I need to rearm it during the playback.

So I cant perform anything similiar to the first bars of this video.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Great vid

You should make an explainig video (like those about launchpad)

  • I just seen some vids.. Just respect!

I just wanted to know what is Eric Sneo's hh on your drum machine ?

    best!!

  • Amazing vid!

ashame u never see people street performing (busking) like this in real life

mostly because pritty much anywere in the world, if you sat in the street with a midi keyboard an a laptop on you'r own for any long amount of time, you would definetly have sombody try and rob you

i busk myself with an mpc500 and i've hade to drill the shell of it n chain it to my hand because of the constant attempts people have made to steal it (and im not enen livin in a ruff area).

  • i am having trouble assigning my ports to the audio effects. please help. any links?

  • @TheKimchiKush Please could you contact Technical Support from our website? Try to include as much information as possible when creating a case and we will do our best to help out.

  • Can't this homeless bastard afford a desk to put all his fancy equipment on? Bolox promo.

  • Hey how do I change the drumpads to lets say map to the loop function of a clip?

i.e. when I press the drumpad to turn on/off loop and others to set loop in/out?

I know I have to change the pads to a different midi message but I'm not sure which one.
