Both applied for Brown but Summer was only one who got accepted. Seth trying to avoid telling Summer about his rejection bec he really really dont want Summer to give up her Brown dream for him. These are some of the cutest scenes in the OC...I especially love Seth's willingness to fight for Summer in Season 1. They are so naiively cute in the beginning. :)

i found out that he said that to her cause he didnt want her to know that he didnt get in the brown and he didnt want to make her soffer... but at the end everything will be fine again and they will dance together so after all....this is what matters!!!!

Don't get me wrong it broke my heart and I bawled like a baby when I watched the scene, but thats how Seth/Summer relationship works lol. But hey I think that this is a selfless lie by Seth because he truly did it because he wanted Summer to go to Brown and she made it clear she wasn't going without him.
