  • i think bjork is soo HOT! i need to meet a nice icelandic girl!

  • Most. Depressing. Movie. Ever.

  • Im sure that if Lars Von Trier were hired to make a documentary on global warming any way he wanted, it would star some saintly, innocent woman who works in a CO2 producing factory owned by some desperate man who has the innocent factory worker arrested because her volunteer work with Greenpeace might threaten the factory owner's income and therefore ruin his ability to buy his wife a Range Rover. We would all cry of course, but we would learn nothing about either human nature or global warming

  • Own this movie on VHS : ) By the way if you ever listen to the Selmasongs soundtrack, it's very interesting, the lyrical content is almost reversed on the album. It's worth comparing the lyrics, I've always wondered why they did that.

  • oh ok i'd have to say that thats a bit harsh ,but then you can and should be critical (it makes for better scope in the world) i hadn't thought of it from that angle so thanks - its something to think about...

  • es la pelicula más triste que he visto en mi vida!

  • nice video :

  • Idiot below me.

  • Didn't like this at all. The dialog was slow, with too many fucking awkward pauses. Selma's decisions were retarded. The cinematography was just shit most of the time. Fucking art film. I want to be entertained, not depressed.

  • @Kadadj retarded? sorry, but I think you didn't know what love of a mother could do! I cry watching this movie, cause it's great! This movie is a reason of cinema exist. Not that american shits of comedy and romance, just to make money.

  • @Kadadj an exercise in pure art is what you need..

  • @pagandude1 I know what art is, I do photography, I make music, play guitar, retouch and manipulate photographs. Its just that I have trouble having sympathy for a character that behaves so irrationally. Von Trier has a tunnel vision of making the viewer cry, and ignores making the plot entirely credible. She murders a man obviously suffering from depression, makes lies which will result in certain death, gets a second chance and just hands it back. At least this song is good.

  • @Kadadj lars von trier wants to show another aspect of the human being. one that is different from those we are used to. Selma came from a completely different cultural background, had been tought solid values and live up to them. she is not retarded, as most of our ocidental minds may think, but a pure demonstration of how unsual and odd kindness can be on our vile culture

  • @Kadadj hmmm, maybe "Chipwrecked" is the movie for you.

  • This movie has made me cry like hell. It's one of MOST tragic movies I've ever seen. Its just extremely tormenting and takes a lot of toll on heart and soul. It's just too too raw and painful and brings out the deepest human sufferings. BJORK is just superb, excellent and amazing angel-like character.

  • she looks so exhausted...but brilliant song/lyrics!!

  • This gives me huge goosebumps.

  • You could hate or love the director, none of their movies are a cup easy to drink, but "Dancer in the dark" is pure poesy.

  • Brilliant I never tire of this scene or this film as a whole

  • woh. heidi flashback

  • words fail

  • I have such mixed feelings about Von Trier...is that the reaction to a true artist?

  • @halation777 It can be...I've seen three of his movies (Dogville, Antichrist, and this one), and all three of them had a very different, but equally powerful effect on me.

  • This is really beautiful, perhaps the most beautiful marriage of lyrics and imagery I've seen in a long long time. What a deep talent this little lady has.

  • すごい。

  • Who knew Lars von Trier makes the best musicals? No one would believe it until they see 'Dancer in the Dark'.

  • what a great artist!

  • This film made me realize that lars is the best director working today..

I've tried to give justice to this film by making a trailer for it.plz check it out.

    watch?v=EE8Bgn_i_os

  • ABRUZZI !!!

  • rotz at 2:06 !!!

  • Abruzzi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • kinda sounds like radiohead

  • perfect s2

  • @anncathy haha! you're so used to hollywood "good-ending" shit films. Can't blame you for hating the movie though.

  • Comment removed

  • @anncathy

maybe you should go back to watching transformers or something

  • @anncathy doesn't have an eye for art films.. we can't blame her..

  • I am proud to say that Bjork is my idol, not only musical and artistic, it is also my main inspiration. I admire her very much!

  • It makes me really proud this movie was recorded in my country, Sweden. :)

  • prea tare...0 5 b d 9

  • I am normally not a fan of Björk , but all of this - the movie, her performance, the music - are absolutly amazing.

  • :55-1:10 what is she saying there? I've heard that it's just gibberish, but that will break my heart because most of the other lyrics are not very great

  • @broadwaymelody33 Yeah it is gibberish, Bjork just sings what she feels even if they aren't words, she does it in pretty much every song she's made. It's awesome.

  • I really enjoyed the film...but God I knows that I am well aware of how bad it is :|

  • lars is a fucking poet. he's the most brilliant director/writer EVER

  • @brenoobr Actually, Bjork is the poet in this scene, and in most of the others scenes.

  • @noamraz05 i thought lars had written all the songs. bjork only contributed by musicating (?) it. isnt that rightw

  • @brenoobr

    its not :P

  • @noamraz05 well you just ruinned my life... i'll cry for the next week.

  • Comment removed

  • @noamraz05 hah just checked the info, lars von trier and sjón (whoever that is) were the ones who wrote the lyrics. besides he says that on the documentary that came with the film.

  • @brenoobr totally concur with you. in a about a week he became my favorite director...how he managed to get the best of bjork in this movie is beyond me. a pure genius.

  • @brenoobr I totally agree. Have you seen Melancholia yet?

  • @bustacapinlutha yup, ive seen it like six months ago and it still feels fresh. great movie, great acting, beautiful takes. felt like i was slowly dying while watching... the inevitable death and yet the small hope that Melancholia wouldnt hit the Earth even though i already knew it would... and so many mixed feelings... it was awesome

  • Dancer in the Dark is maybe my favorite movie! The music is touching, and it was well played. The story makes me cry!

  • PETER STORMARE

  • she's trying to sing/write perfect songs....and I think she's really near of it ...

    ecxellent!!!.

  • Well, what can one say but this is great music, great film making and art of the highest order. How can you not be absolutely blown away by this????

  • this its a OPHERA

  • this movie left such an impression. it will probably be a few more years until I muster up the emotional courage to watch it again. What an amazing song and scene though, wow.

  • @gofightlose i feel the same way. omg the end of the movie was too much. I don't know if i can ever watch the whole movie again. One of the few that i got "choked up" over at the end.

  • this movie is fucking unfair. UNFAIR!!! its makes me cry everytime.

  • @Zombiepull Yeah. At first I thought this movie was a masterpiece. After my emotions calmed and I looked at it logically, I realized the plot makes no sense and is just a tool Lars used to manipulate the audience's emotions. I mean, he's good at what he does in that respect, but the whole ending feels unnatural and forced. I can't see something like this really happening.

  • @yuppyguitar1 you know this is a bloody movie right? everything in it is used to manipulate our emotions. and he does a freaking great job. wouldnt you ask yourself, though, what is it about selma that didnt make sense and then compare it to the values and beliefs you were taught as a child? you will notice then that they are pretty much the same. how bloody ironic is that?

  • @brenoobr Dude, this is not a movie. Are you retarded? This is real life. Bjork is actually Selma. She really died in the final scene! Jesus, didn't know people could be so detached from reality. But ignoring your childish thoughts for a moment, there are people who exist that appreciate integrity in story telling. Give that a thought.

  • @crcaccounts integrity is NOT the same as mimesis, for god's sake! i think mankind would have learned this after the european vanguards in the lates 1800's. you're asking a poet to write a documentary and thats not what its about.

  • it's an amazing film and i want to watch it again but... it's too painful, i just can't go beyond half way... -(

  • BREEEEA!!!!

  • And I would be a clod not to mention that Peter Stormare, Joel Grey and especially Catherine DeNeuve David Morse gave stellar performances as well. Kudos to the cast, writers and musicians, too. Thank you all for an over the top work of art.

  • This movie starts slowly but as it progresses, it will grab you and at the end it will blow you away. Sometimes you have to be a little patient to get a huge payoff. And Bjork, as always, is an enchanting elfin presence with a voice that moves Heaven.

  • one of the best films i've ever seen.. and the one i cried the most.

  • Me encanto esta pelicula, no entiendo como puede haber gente que diga que es aburrida

  • @adriama6659 yo tampoco entiendo

  • not the beiggest fan of Independent films,i hate the camera work, but the ating is ALWAYS amazing, and Bjork gave the performance of her life

  • contigo lo he visto todo mi vida te amo muchote muaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • the way of filming is ridiculous and all the choregraphy has been broken by the cut

    BUT bjork is SUBLIME

  • @dirtyfrenchie agreed, i don't know if i would care much for this film but bjork is incredible in this song

  • @dirtyfrenchie I believe it was done intentionally to support the theme of the film, still though Bjork was amazing

  • too campy and emotions are false

  • @makethemyth

    That's the point.

  • Trains rule. So does Bjork. Curse Lars von Trier for being a Nazi during the production of this film and making her never want to act again. Jerk

  • @AyKayFoTeeSeVen I WAS DYING TO SEE THEIR FIGTHTS IN THE DVD EXTRAS LOL

  • I LOVE YOU !! B'JORK

This movie is one of the best movies i've ever seen

  • amazing....

  • lo mejorrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • great music

  • Great film and great music

  • Thom Yorke DESTROYED this song. Peter Stomare was a lot better.

  • @theking0fnowhere I also think this was a thousand times better. Yorke just doesn't fit. IU've never really thought he expressed feeling too well anyway. Perhaps it's just me, but I think it was a lot better like this.

  • 14++ Only.........

    /watch?v=rI2v31F1DS8

  • Anyone seen August Rush? The environmental sounds are apart of the music in that too.

  • So what's this movie about anyway?

  • Lagu ini benar-benar menghidupkan film, luar biasa Bjork, bisa memberikan jiwa di lagu ini, bravo Bjork.

( sorry for my bad english...greetings from germany :) )

  • It's very rarely i cry for a movie, but the end was so horrible i actualy did. If the movie does nothing with you i think there something wrong. A beatifull movie that rips your heart out. Beautifull music to.

  • @zotjetotenmet Thanks for ruining the ending for me!

  • @zotjetotenmet Thanks for ruining the ending for me! Do you think everyone has already seen it and it's OK to spoil it for them? A-hole!

  • @zotjetotenmet Ever hear of the term 'spoiler alert'? Thanks for ruining the ending for me! Do you think everyone has already seen it and it's OK to spoil it for them? A-hole!

  • Beautiful.

  • just amazing :(

  • i'm a kid, (21y/o) and i think bjork is one of the most talented, unique and visionary artists ive yet encountered

  • ENORME

  • Bjork is so amazing! I never knew she could act until I saw this movie.

  • this movie messes me up ,,but it is sooo amazing,, lars von trier knows what hes doing

  • The heart of a child!

  • The beauty behind bjork and her movie, "Dancer in The Dark", Its amazing. It is an imotional horror. This meaning is braught how the movie PICKS at your mind and you get agressive and or mad. Bjorks music is very artistic. She is amazing and full of excitement. You never know what to expect out of her. This brings joy to the fans. THUMBS UP IF YOU CAME TO THIS VIDEO TO THUMBS IT UP!

  • the lyrics are reason for depression. björk have perfect mimics

  • This is truly amazing.

I am astounded at how much I actually understand this, bringing up something that was always there, yet I never thought deeply about just yet..

My own understanding on this is what really surprises me, it just brings many strong feelings for me.

  • Замечательно!!!

  • Dancer in the Dark is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen; I can't believe some people here (kids?) are saying it's boring.

This is my favorite song from the movie. Bjork so perfectly captures the emotion of Selma's thoughts. She is amazing. I almost cried during the song (I did actually cry at the end of the movie, though :'( ).

Also, I would recommend listening to the version with Thom Yorke, if you haven't already.

  • @DesmondHume423 im a kid and i love it!!

  • @DesmondHume423 Hahaha well... i saw this when i was 13, just because björk appeared in it, and i totally love it. The only thing that really afected me in that time was the last scene i was like O_O! and then i cried like i've never cried before D:, it was too fucking sad. Great Movie i would recommend it whenever you want to see an interesting musical :)

  • @DesmondHume423 it's amazing, how she captures selmas thoughts is what i was thinking about the whole movie, it's beautiful.

  • @DesmondHume423 I can't watch the last 10 minutes...it wrecks me I end up sobbing like an old woman.

  • @DesmondHume423 Since when do most kids know anything.

  • @DesmondHume423 dude, you cant not cry in the end of the movie.

  • Wow.

  • @MrBenCaesar ;)

  • Wonderfully beautiful Bjork. Sensitive and knowledgeable and straight from the soul.

  • I´ve seen it all from beginning to the end and have to say: "Great movie!"

The story is tragical, the actors do a great job and the music is awesome.

It´s no action movie but a wonderful told story. I just love it and it made me cry.

  • For those who say she is ugly, the film is boring blah blah, I say this page is not for the typical shallow way of seeing things, we re different, so stick to what you like and leave us to enjoy this.

  • "i have seen what i was and i know what i'll be, Ive seen it all there is no more to see..."

  • Bjorks beauty is something you feel inside, and sometimes hear, has nothing to do with vision, that kind of beauty means very little and is the curse of the empty soul

  • who don't like it?

  • @milfhunter012 What didn't you like about it in particular?

  • @TheAquarian89 This film was the most bored film I had ever seen, OK it's not a typical american film, where always happen smthing, but omg... and that girl is terrible ugly :DD, I almost killed myself during the film xd

  • @milfhunter012 bjork is the most beautiful women alive.

  • @jaretthale78 we are all different:D I much prefer Kelly Brook :DDD

  • @milfhunter012 Shame on you.

  • And then, she wore..... That dress....

  • I love this. I hadn't listen to it for months and it just came back to my mind yesterday. I had to come listen to it here today. love her style

  • I like Bjork so much!!!

  • I prefer this version to the one on the album, though both are brilliant.

  • I've seen it all. For, I've seen this ! ;)

  • great job on teh singing, Peter Stormare!!

  • best song and one of the best parts of the movie :)

  • since when did nobody bother to figure that out. Now GET REaL.

  • Now you listen to me here; fear is your only GOD.

  • I might do a cover of this song just b/c I absolutely LOVEE Bjork. <3

    ILY Bjork.

  • @nazaluser She said "What is there to see?"

  • What did she say before singing? sorry, I don't speak English well.
