holy shit you watched wrestling in school? High school or college?
Great vid, I know you said in another vid that you want comments and to debate, but its hard when I pretty much agree with most to all of what you say.
No, that match is overrated. People only 'praise' it because they wrestled for over an hour. I give Shawn and Bret alot of credit for going and doing that, but best match ever? Lies!
The only thing that i didn't liked from Joe vs Kobashi was the ending of the match (SPOILER: I Think Kobashi actually can lift Joe for the Burning Hammer END OF THE SPOILER). But the match was great as hell, and the crowd was hellacious.

The Triple Threat at Unbreakable was amazing but there was another great Triple Threat around 15 years ago Sabu vs Terry Funk vs Shane Douglas at Barely Legal, absolutley incredible.
But yes the triple threat at Unbreakable was awesome.
your so right, but I think wwe lacks core traditional wrestling values.I understand its entertainment but a proportion of it needs be viewed as a sport and an art and wrestlers need to be distinguished not only for the character but the way they perform in the ring
I absolutely LOVE wrestling. One match that touched me which was a main stream WWE match was WrestleMania 19 Austin vs. Rock (3) I could feel the passion that they brung to the ring I knew that rocky was gonna win but still i was extremely into the match. After the match was over I stood up and gave them a standing ovation & I cried like a baby. One of my sisters laughed & thought I was silly. I am not silly...I am passionate.
that Brock/Goldberg match was HORRIBLE I' ve had better matches in my backyard. but i gotta check out that AJ/Joe/Daniels match that you are talking about.
I know exactly what you mean, refering to the Kobashi and Joe match, its like the Tenzan vs Akiyama match in NJPW in 2003. The Japanese fans knew that they were part of such a phenomenon.
I doubt Flair would have worked with Kenta Kobashi, since he didn't want to work with Steve Williams back in the day, something about him being too stiff and whatnot.
Flair and Michaels was great :) the part where Shawn says 'I love you' before finishing Flair off! one of the best Mania moments ive ever seen! so emotional! especially for the Flair fans who have watched him for many many years :) all those memorys! I know I didn't want to see the nature boy retire :(
I agree with the Michaels vs. Taker HIAC match. Everyone praises the Foley vs. Taker HIAC, but take the two spots that Foley did out of the match, and that match totally sucked, but Michaels and Taker was awesome from the start. Plus, it also marked the debut of Kane, which also made the match all that more special.
I don't know how anybody could say the unbreakable match was overrated. To me, that match is the greatest match ever. Those guys put everything they possibly could out there. I've showed that match to alot of people who are now a big TNA fan. And I don't believe that match was overrated, if people are saying talkking about it.
I would say that the Mania XX triple threat match is the greatest WWE triple threat match, while the Joe/Daniels/Styles triple threat was the greatest TNA triple threat. The two were awesome matches, yet radically different. I don't watch TNA much, but the X Division Triple Threat is one of my favorites.
Great video. Your always quick and straight to the point Mike. And the points you make are very good and seem to be well thought out. Curious are you reading from a script or do you just have a good memory for what you want to convey to the audience?
being a legend in japan has nothing to do with how good a wrestler you are inoki was very good and giant baba sure as hell wasn't yet these two men are the the two most iconic igures in purosea history
it is a common misconception with the smart fans that to be loved by the japanese as that you have to be great in the ring when all it takes is charisma and personality and you are made or life there, hard gay and bob sapp are much bigger draws than a kenta could ever hope to be
thegoldenone2k9-Being a legend and being over is two different things. Anyone can be over, yet fans can acknowledge the fact that they aren't that good.-You fail!
As far as Inoki is concerned, look at the all around impact he's made not just in puro, but in pro wrestling as a whole. Hell, a lot of his matches are considered classics!
um being a legend means that you were over so no it does not you are looking at this from a smart fans point of view clearly japanese fans dont see it that way unless you wish to deny that baba isn't an icon of purosea
look at hogan who else made a bigger impact in pro wrestling? yet he isn't regarded as great in the ring
classics in what way? hogan vs andre is considered a classic as is hogan vs warrior yet their not packed with ring action
thegoldenone2k9-Of course you would have to be over in order to be considered a legend. How would you be a legend if you weren't over to some degree? (There are exceptions, so again to a degree) I mentioned the Japanese wrestling scene and here you go on to Hogan, Warrior, and Andre who would include mainstream American fans that mostly see superstardom and looks.
Was Shohei Baba the best? No. But he was good enough to have good matches and hang with guys like Misawa, Jumbo, etc.
hogan warrior and andre are regarded as slow and imobile yet the were more athletic than baba ever was he was awful in the ring he sure as hell didn't get over through ring talents it was his charisma that got him over in the irst place, again why is it that sapp was such a huge draw in japan where's a kenta could never hope to draw as much
bjvsgsp-Bob Sapp is commercially a big name is Japan and is better known than a guy like KENTA or Kenta Kobashi by mainstream standards. Youre forgetting that he is a big draw in the MMA world! Of course a lot of his MMA fans are going to check his pro wrestling work out and keep in mind that he has a lot of hype. And keep in mind that AJPW or NOAH (as big as they are) weren't/aren't as highly know as NJ.
bjvsgsp-I do get your point. And I will admit your argument was rather good. I guess for a second I did forget that Japan isn't filled with smart fans.
I think both of you are right depending on the time period.
Baba came from a time when size was still a symbol of power and strength. If you were tall, thicker, or wider than the average guy you got noticed. Then if you were decent in the ring or on the mic you you become a star.
Guys like Muta, Masawa, and Kobashi hit stardom in the early 90's when work-rate and a good character were the ticket to stardom.
What makes a legend is being good at what fans are looking for at the time.
if you are some how confused through responding to two accounts with the same opinion and same arguments then just so you know thegoldenone is my account that I created after I forgot the password to this one and it is a common mis conception that japanese fans only appreciate athleticism side of sports/entertainment look at pride fc there were alot of huge mismatches there that got over due the fact that they were entertaining
Pistoldtown-The matches I was referring to involved him with names multiple names and not just singles matches.
I love how your sarcasm is lead by pure ignorance. You do understand that matches like Hogan vs. Andre were great matches by the standards of the casual fan in those years?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I absoultely understand that. Thats why I used the quotation marks for the word "good". From your Baba comments, it reads like you regard him as good in a "workrate" manner. Just stating that he was good like Hogan/Andre was good. It was more of a spectacle, less of a wrestling match... and the "casual" fan as you put it, seemed to not know the difference in 1987. My comments were in no part meant to take anything away from Hogan/Andre. Just Baba, because he's terrible, and I think you know it.
There is not much going on in mainstream wrestling right now. But on the other hand there are so many good indy promotions (like chikara, ROH, PWG), Japanese wrestling, the luchadors and even some good European promotions (like ASW from Britain or WXW from Germany). So if someone searches an alternative to the WWE/TNA stuff - it is allready there. Just take a grab^^.
And thanks to youtube the most significant matches can be watched over and over again.
Problem with today's wrestling fans is they are scared to try new things, they hear roh coming to there town,or tna etc they say eh it is not wwe.i went to my first roh show and dam i was amazed got my next 2 ring of honor tickets already in nyc and houston for mania week
I agree that all those matches are pretty great. I've turned so many people over to wrestling because of that Triple Threat match. Also, Kobashi Kenta is my favorite wrestler of all time, so I'm really glad you put one of his matches in here.
I agree so much on the stuff you said, especially about Flair vs. HBK. I LOVED every moment of that match, it told such a beautiful story, and the finish was so touching. I have been watching pro wrestling since I was a kid, and no match I have ever seen made me feel the way I did after that match. Even though I KNEW Ric Flair would lose, the match was still incredible.
Agreed - the match was more than worthy for the huge meaning it had. I am not a fan of Flair, but I have to acknowledge him, as one of the most significant wrestlers. For me Flair is as important and historical significant as a wrestler like Lou Thesz!
Respect! And his matches with Steamboat are awesome!
There are just timeless qualities in wrestling, which will allways seperate the really great wrestlers from the rest. And that are storytelling, workrate and in-ring-psychology.
vince is smart, he targets kids, lil kids dont kon who either of those guys are, believe me, people knock vince cause he doesnt target indy wrestling fans, if the only fans left were indy fans and they were the ones providing wwe with the money, believe me, vince would delivery.... when his back is against the wall he will delivery, he is smart, right now tna is not competition, roh is not competition, they are there but not even close to wwe, they need to be for wwe to step it up
Even with the match at WrestleMania 24 being so high on emotion, the sheer athletic ability wasn't that bad. Shaun busted his ass in that match and Ric was great. The emotion was so thick, I can't see how people didn't feel something watching that match.
I actually just watch that match again about three days ago and I agree. Flair pulled out moves we hadn't seen him do in atleast five years maybe even ten. As far as botches go, I think only that second moonsault can really be called a botch. But when you look at the way they sold it and "recovered" after the move it didn't really hurt the match.
that natch is mainly based on the 2 high spots, as for the actual match, there were other decent parts, but if not for those 2 spots, the match wuld not be rated as high as it was, there have been many hell in a cells better in terms of ring quality, with not as big of high spots, such as edge taker from last year
Hey dude, i GOTTA get ur review of the movie, The Wrestlr, cuz honestly thats like my favorite movie of all time! Plus ive loved all the matches uve named, PERFECT! but ya let me know what u thought about the movie k? Thanks! Always making GREAT vids!
very ovverated, think of watching the match with no sound, and pretending that the rock and hogan were just regular superstars, and u dindt see the backstory behind the match, then u wuld see that the match was merely around 2 star level
I'm really surprised you didn't mention Savage/Steamboat from Wrestlemania 3 or Jake The Snake/Steve Austin (the birth of Austin 3:16) or Hogan/Sgt.Slaughter when Slaughter (a former marine) turned on his country.
sakonhagakure-I have yet to hear anyone call any of those matches overrated. I will say however that even though Savage/Steamboat was a great match, it was completly scripted. Steamboat had better matches with Flair while calling it in the ring.
great vid, i think why people say these matches are overrated are strictly based on the in ring work, for example, if analytical wrestling fan watched flair and michaels, without any backstory , they wuld probably only rate the match at round 3 and 1/2 to 4 stars, but with the signifance behind that match, it made it that much better
Njay3-True but it depends on the fan. When I was younger I watched the old school guys, so I could always pick up and love a story when it's being tolled.
crazymike, I'm not saying it was a bad match--hell it was an EXCELLENT match. But I mean when you hear WrestleMania 24 the first match that comes to mind is HBK/Michaels. IT was the 2nd best match on the card (I think Edge/Taker kinda did better) ... and we're talking two of the best ever, Ric Flair for Godsake and HBK... but think about it. Best match of all time? Match of the year? Best Mania match ever? No, No, No. What I meant was how people over exagerate it. Your still great though, Mike!
i guess the best i can explain it is that i was lazy putting it. shoudlve worded it better. believe me man, i mean i have the Mania DVD and I always watch Edge/Taker, the MITB, HBK/Flair, when I put it in cause I love those matches.
Hey Crazymike, have you considered doing a video on the most underrated matches you've seen? I never hear people talk much about Low Ki vs Jody Fleisch, and that was a great match.
aDance2Die2-The problem with a lot of great underrated matches is that the matches themselves aren't underrated per-say. It has more to do with lack of awareness.
IE: Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid. Their matches where decades ahead of their time. On one hand they are underrated, but on the other, you must take into account that the overall awareness of that match is low.
I always felt that if Wreslting was music WWE would be the MTV of wrestling, and im a musician and love music but i don't like MTV and for people who don't like wrestling base off WWE is like saying i don't like music and I know because i used to wacth WWE. I showed many of my friends indy and TNA wrestling Japanse 2 i can't say they all became fans but they understood. And I actually started liking wrestling way more after I found it was fake, sure I was a little disapointed at first but now..
the 3 way was awesome, great work by tna. the Micheals vs Flair match was a total classic, every thing they did had me on the edge of my seat. The first hell in a cell was madness, we saw a really crazy spot and the match was simply fantastic. i can't say i have ever seen joe vs kobashi but now you have mentioned it, i'm gona check it out. The triangle ladder imo was better than the tlc matches apart from tlc 2 (and maybe tlc 1)
back in like 05-06, TNA was Kicking ass. If they would have kept with that formula, i guarentee they would be giving WWE a run for there money right now.
But sadly, TNA bookers had to go and fuck shit up.
Holy crap! Misawa and Kobashi is in the recommended vids. That was a great match!

There are just timeless qualities in wrestling, which will allways seperate the really great wrestlers from the rest. And that are storytelling, workrate and in-ring-psychology.

who said flair/hbk was overrated,
anyway i don't care if i get shit for this but Flair/HBK was the greatest match I've ever seen or will see.

I don't think that Vince McMahon is smart enough to book a match like Joe and Kobashi
skullofajester 3 years ago 2
vince is smart, he targets kids, lil kids dont kon who either of those guys are, believe me, people knock vince cause he doesnt target indy wrestling fans, if the only fans left were indy fans and they were the ones providing wwe with the money, believe me, vince would delivery.... when his back is against the wall he will delivery, he is smart, right now tna is not competition, roh is not competition, they are there but not even close to wwe, they need to be for wwe to step it up

i would like to add two more matches
1.flair vs funk last man standing that told alot of story with funk and flair.
i know i might get crap for it
2.briscoes vs steen/el generico ladder war Man up
not only how crazy the spots were, that it had a massive story behind and during the match.
i agree Joe vs. Kobashi
desereve the five star ratings, just crazy stiff chops that kenta did, just like gun shots.
fullmetal2k8 3 years ago 2
Who thought that the X Division match was overrated? It certainly wasn't Dave Meltzer--he gave it five stars.
aqplaya92 3 years ago
Even with the match at WrestleMania 24 being so high on emotion, the sheer athletic ability wasn't that bad. Shaun busted his ass in that match and Ric was great. The emotion was so thick, I can't see how people didn't feel something watching that match.
cowbell1 3 years ago
I actually just watch that match again about three days ago and I agree. Flair pulled out moves we hadn't seen him do in atleast five years maybe even ten. As far as botches go, I think only that second moonsault can really be called a botch. But when you look at the way they sold it and "recovered" after the move it didn't really hurt the match.
Nic1700 3 years ago
what about Mankind vs Taker? It's considered 5 stars in my eyes so is it overrated in your mind by people?
CH0392 3 years ago
that natch is mainly based on the 2 high spots, as for the actual match, there were other decent parts, but if not for those 2 spots, the match wuld not be rated as high as it was, there have been many hell in a cells better in terms of ring quality, with not as big of high spots, such as edge taker from last year
Njay3 3 years ago
Dont you think its pretty awesome that ever since HBK returned, that at every wrestlemania he has been in, he's had a fucking great match?

That triple threat match made me start paying attention to TNA

Hey dude, i GOTTA get ur review of the movie, The Wrestlr, cuz honestly thats like my favorite movie of all time! Plus ive loved all the matches uve named, PERFECT! but ya let me know what u thought about the movie k? Thanks! Always making GREAT vids!

Imo, whats overrated/underrated is personal taste.

Nice vid Kobashi vs joe was epic though i would still like for flair vs kobashi
Jerichoholic20 3 years ago
THE UNBREAKABLE triple threat was literally the best match that TNA ever had.
And Mike, your right, This was the best triple threat match due to that they made it seem important.
The flair/Hbk match was easily one of the best WM matches of the last decade if not period.
I never use the ''five star'' rating its unfair and not broad enough
twiztidlestat 3 years ago
I never use it because 1, I've never wrestled in an actual ring and 2, it just seems really markish.
sakonhagakure 3 years ago
People's tastes in matches differ so there will always be a wide range of varying opinions when matches are rated.

hart and hbk from mania 12 could have been on this list too
astone08 3 years ago
No, hart and hbk at mania 12 is indeed overrated. They had constant rest holds and not that good action.

The first Hell in the Cell match is my favorite match of all time. I hate how people bash that match.

I think Rock vs Hogan in WM XVII was overrated.

wm 18, Not 17
twiztidlestat 3 years ago
very ovverated, think of watching the match with no sound, and pretending that the rock and hogan were just regular superstars, and u dindt see the backstory behind the match, then u wuld see that the match was merely around 2 star level
Njay3 3 years ago
I'm really surprised you didn't mention Savage/Steamboat from Wrestlemania 3 or Jake The Snake/Steve Austin (the birth of Austin 3:16) or Hogan/Sgt.Slaughter when Slaughter (a former marine) turned on his country.
sakonhagakure 3 years ago 2
sakonhagakure-I have yet to hear anyone call any of those matches overrated. I will say however that even though Savage/Steamboat was a great match, it was completly scripted. Steamboat had better matches with Flair while calling it in the ring.

jericho/micheals wrestlemania 19 is more underated then the triple threat at wrestlemania 20

I can't watch the first Hell in a Cell anymore because I've seen it so many times. Same for Hart/Austin. They are amazing matches though.
flakyjon 3 years ago
great vid, i think why people say these matches are overrated are strictly based on the in ring work, for example, if analytical wrestling fan watched flair and michaels, without any backstory , they wuld probably only rate the match at round 3 and 1/2 to 4 stars, but with the signifance behind that match, it made it that much better
Njay3 3 years ago
Njay3-True but it depends on the fan. When I was younger I watched the old school guys, so I could always pick up and love a story when it's being tolled.

WWEbruh-"HBK/Michaels was a little overrated"
Huh? When did this match took place? Who won? Who booked it?
crazymike1706 3 years ago
crazymike, I'm not saying it was a bad match--hell it was an EXCELLENT match.
WWEbruh 3 years ago
WWEbruh-Lol. Read your comment.
"HBK/Michaels was a little overrated"
crazymike1706 3 years ago
bear has effects on people lolz
i guess the best i can explain it is that i was lazy putting it. shoudlve worded it better. believe me man, i mean i have the Mania DVD and I always watch Edge/Taker, the MITB, HBK/Flair, when I put it in cause I love those matches.
WWEbruh 3 years ago
Hey Crazymike, have you considered doing a video on the most underrated matches you've seen? I never hear people talk much about Low Ki vs Jody Fleisch, and that was a great match.
aDance2Die2 3 years ago 4
aDance2Die2-The problem with a lot of great underrated matches is that the matches themselves aren't underrated per-say. It has more to do with lack of awareness.
IE: Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid. Their matches where decades ahead of their time. On one hand they are underrated, but on the other, you must take into account that the overall awareness of that match is low.
crazymike1706 3 years ago
I always felt that if Wreslting was music WWE would be the MTV of wrestling, and im a musician and love music but i don't like MTV and for people who don't like wrestling base off WWE is like saying i don't like music and I know because i used to wacth WWE. I showed many of my friends indy and TNA wrestling Japanse 2 i can't say they all became fans but they understood. And I actually started liking wrestling way more after I found it was fake, sure I was a little disapointed at first but now..
saynotodrug999 3 years ago 4
the 3 way was awesome, great work by tna. the Micheals vs Flair match was a total classic, every thing they did had me on the edge of my seat. The first hell in a cell was madness, we saw a really crazy spot and the match was simply fantastic. i can't say i have ever seen joe vs kobashi but now you have mentioned it, i'm gona check it out. The triangle ladder imo was better than the tlc matches apart from tlc 2 (and maybe tlc 1)

the fact that HBK hurt his ribs that night, just added to the match, it was the kind of matches we were lucky to see.

TNA better than WWE????
not even on there best day!
please.
hotboy872000 3 years ago
back in like 05-06, TNA was Kicking ass. If they would have kept with that formula, i guarentee they would be giving WWE a run for there money right now.
But sadly, TNA bookers had to go and fuck shit up.

Indy or mainstream, that 3way was great. Would be nice to see them go at again, but for the World Title.
