I remember very well when the frequencies changed, we got some stickers to put on the radio, I stuck them on the radio for Mum and Dad. My mum liked to have Radio 2 on all day, this was in the days before daytime television. Have you got the other ad, where there's a housewife crying cos she can't find Terry Wogan?
To be honest I could never stand listening to the supposedly hilarious King Singers! I do recall the 1978 frequency changes though - I was only 8 at the time but I remember putting little adhesive stickers onto the front panel of the radio to show the new positions of the stations on the dial.. interesting to be reminded of that..
I think this is the 'King Singers' singing. Radio 1 and 2 also had JAM creative productions in Dallas sing new jingles describing the new frequencies, and the changes.
Oh, glorious! I do love the traditional Anglican psalmody. Oh, what memories, what memories.
Er, yes, of course - the music is very traditional psalm-singing, as is fundamental to any traditional Anglican service. The BBC is considered almost as much a cornerstone of Civilised English Life as the Church of England, so combining the two was simply logical. And delicious.
It seems *so* utterly alien now, though, doesn't it?
This is from the era when Butskellism was breathing its last and the future was anybody's guess, and I suppose this is where I do my bit about the England we see here having been finally destroyed for good by those who came in on the back of (certain people's) hopes of reviving it. "Babe" by Styx and "Still" by the Commodores - which two I cite for an entirely personal reason - are greater elite foundation stones now, I fear.

Why did they have to sing the announcement? It's not like it's a catchy tune is it.
Great vids though, thanks for uploading.

Not only did they sing it, they actually released it as a single! That went on for longer, and included the actual frequency details.
The song was called "Some Enchanted Wavelengths" and I agree it is somewhat an acquired taste....
