She didn't nearly "make it her own", but she did a decent job. she's not an R&B singer, and does not have anything like heavy weight R&B vocal technique (like Cristina Aguilara, for example), but her vocal notes are beautifully pure and articulated. Her version does not suck like so many other denatured "country" versions of R&B tunes.....(think Conway Twitty)

Nice version but I prefer the orignal but often imitated but not duplicated version by the Supremes with the Funk Brothers at their prme backing them. Alison Krause however has one of the most beatiful voices in music today her version of "This Time The Dream's On Me" is the best version I've ever heard. Check it out on youtube.

I agree with you, the style doesn't suit her even though she manages to pull off a decent version. She tends to excel in more melodic songs but she also has an extremely powerful voice and can do some pretty surprising stuff that you wouldn't expect and sounds amazing. Check out "oh atlanta" for example. In her live concerts she does a few numbers like this, and it really blows you away...
