While that is true, I'd also like to point out Vietnam wasn't a war. It was a police action. Congress never signed a Declaration of war against North Vietnam.

The War Powers Resolution was in no way a deceleration of war. It simply required the Chief of Staff to notify Congress within 48 hours when he uses military force. It was enacted because Congress did not appreciate Nixon sending troops without notifying them.

Your cousin doesn't know what he is talking about, if you want to just go in an be infantryman there is really no specialty for a career afterwords, besides police and federal and local law enforcement agencies, but if you do something like security forces which i'm doing you get some go weapons training and get a secret clearance which is highly looked upon by law enforcement agencies, any agency in that case.

Take your time. I joined the MArines when I was 18. Some people love it for what it is, others hate it, some are in the middle. It's very important you don't join because it looks like fun. The military is not like the commercials they show on tv. It's complicated talk to former soldiers not recruiters who have something to gain by lying to you.

Joining Any branch of The Military is a very honorable thing to do. Remember though that for most Soldiers/Marines will be sent to war. My brother just got back from Afghanistan and he served in the Army. He came home fine for the most part. He did contract Malaria from the mosquitoes. He could have died from that. Make sure you believe in what we are fighting for. Not all wars that our fought are worthy of fighting. You may be sent to fight for something you do not believe in.
