mehn,i already got my filtoclear today and yes it is a quality product but i have question when i backwash the system there is still coming out at the hose going to waterfall its like 30% to the waterfall and 70% to the backwash hose..is that normal?or do i need to adjust something or do i need to return the product?tnx
There will always be a small amount of water and thats why the unit comes with a cap to prevent the pond slowly leaking out of the drain when the unit is operating. The flow diverter inside the filtoclear just shifts the majority of water in the right direction when cleaning, it does not stop it completley to the cascade although usually its nothing more than a dribble (I suppose it depends on how high the cascade is and therefore how much pressure there is back on the diverter)
Personally, I would go for the Filtoclear 11.000 or better still, the 15.000. If the pond is around 1.000 gal. I always work a 15.000 in with the build as it does not cost much more than the 11.000. Both have an 11w UV. Even if you have a 3.000 or 6.000 they can take a 11w bulb. The 15.000 has a reflector to increase light penetration. Laguna are OK and much cheaper, but I always go for OASE for quality of build and surface area on the foam set. Roughly, one watt of UV clears 100 gal.
do u have a video when your cleaning your pond?or pix of your pond before and after cleaning?maybe i will get the filtoclear 11000 (filtoclear 3000 here in USA and the Uv is only 9 watts)but i really dont know which one is the best between the 2 brands..do u think is it worth the money to buy oase brand or your just paying the brand?if you rate the oase filtoclear and laguna 2100 1 to 10 what is it? sorry to many questions..hehe
In the UK, the 11.000 and 15.000 both have 11w UV lights. I like the OASE filter as the foams are very good quality and the surface area of them is much larger than the equivalent Laguna fillter. As far as pressure filters go, the Oase filters have not been bettered so I would give them a 10.The Laguna I wouldn't give a score as I have not installed and maintained any. I have replaced a few Laguna with Oase filters though. With no problems.
what do you think of the Oase Biotec 12 with a Bitron 55 C uv light? idk if the 55c means 55walts or not. Or do you think i need the oase biotec 18? or im i going in the wrong direction?
The 55c is a 55w UV with an automatic cleaner which uses water flow to drive a brush cleaner around the tube surrounding the light. If money is not tight, the larger biotec units will serve well but in our shop we do not stock them. We tend to go for traditional multi chamber filters as they are much larger and customers do not need as much convincing as to wether they will work as they are big (doesn't make sense to me either) A good OASE filter will not let you down.
so if my pond is 4,000 gallons and in full shade can you tell me what i need to buy. Filter/ uvc light. or anything i may need. I have 8 koi sizes 6-17" inchs and six goldfish at 6" inchs. and i want to lose the two fishmate units. thanks for your help
i have two fishmate 2000 9w uv lights. i just did the megerments of my pond. it 4,001 gallons total. not 3,500gal. i need to update the fiter units and i hate fishmate.. i really like the oase biotec unit. it looks like it will do a great job. The pond is in full shade cause of the summer i want to keep the water as cold as possable and give my koi shade plus it helps with agale. continue-
i hate the fishmate filters and want to replace them. i find myself cleaning them by hand because the backflush sucks on it. so i guess i need a filter to treat 8,000gallons with a 25w uvc lite. ty for the help ill be looking for a good multichamber filter.
When I suggested the 25w UV light, I was thinking of it in addition to the UV lights in the fishmate filters (13w each?). If you're getting rid of those, then you really should have a 55w light on the pond. You would normally have a minimum of 1w of UV per 100 gallons for a fish pond, wih more for koi. With the right size UV and a good filter after it, you should not need the shade netting as the pond will be crystal clear (just remember to change the bulb every spring)
ok well i got this.. the oase 15000 is good for 3,330 gallons my pond 3,889 gallons. do you think this unit will work good for my pond? my water is always murky and i can never see my koi all summer :( i just really want clean water!
It will keep 3330 gal of shaded wildlife pond clear and only 1500 gal of 'normal' fish pond clear. With koi, the gallonage is further reduced to about 800. You've got a fairly big pond so I would opt for a traditional multichamber filter in addittion to the fishmate filters yo have. Use the fishmate first, then pass the water through the new bigger filter (with min.25watt UV). Remember that if a filter treats 'up to 5000 gal' thats generally 2500 gal with fish and 50% less again with koi.

Even though it is in full shade, treat as a koi pond . So 55w UV and filter that says will treat up to 8.000 gal minimum.

ok thank you :)
