I love Mcmcleary's comment. A person really sounds smart when they refer to the team that they came back and beat in the last seconds of the game as having an "impotent offense and defense".
About as bad as the famous "over-rated!" cheer: If you barely beat a team and they are impotent or overrated, then what does that make your team? Almost as impotent? So bad that a team must be overrated or impotent if you beat them?
If the defender had just been patient and waited for the ball to arrive before hitting the Ute player, it would have been game over. Instead, Utah wins in OT.
The player was at the back of the endzone. ANY missed catch is going to land out of bounds. As such your criteria for saying the ball was high is not valid.
the fact that it was high is still valid. How far out of bounds did it land? 5 feet? No way, at least 10 feet or more, IMO. And it was thrown on a line (not a lob pass), behind the receiver. Even with a crash stop, I don't think he could've reached back and jumped.
My point is moot, though. What happened, happened. We'll never know how it would have turned out otherwise :).

Utah got a bs call. OSU then let Utah kick a field goal. That being said, Utah had no business playing in the championship game this year undefeated team or not. Utah can say Mountain West beat up the pac 10 this year all it wants, but nobody cares about the Mountain West except the cowboys who live there.
What they don't show on this video is that the intended receiver ran out of bounds on his own accord making him uneligible receiver for the rest of the play. How can you call PI when the nearest guy to the ball isn't allowed to catch it?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
those of you who say that utah still would of won by a point are wrong. because if they didnt get it that changes oregan states play calling to waste the clock. and since they did get it they were more agressive in their play calling than conservative
you speak as if this was the one and only way for the beavers to win the game. they could have stopped the utes they could have scored. but you choose to blame the refs. i remeber my highschool telling me that the refs will make mistakes it is a part of the game and if you can't overcome those mistakes you lost the game. maybe you should blame your impotent offense and defense.
1. The ball was uncatchable...because his momentum was taking him the other way. The commentator says," The receiver stops"....but he never stopped. If the defender wasn't there, do you really think he would have been able to stop completely, move back to his left and then reach up and catch?
2. This call did make a difference. Oregon state had to try and move the ball into FG range...if they had a 2 point lead they could've run the ball a few plays to eat the clock.

Lay him out? He ran into him because no one was expecting the ball to be behind them where it was completely uncatchable. It certainly wasn't deliberate but it shouldn't make a difference anyway, if you have any concept of how fast the guy was moving and where the ball was it's obvious that there was no way he could have even touched the ball regardless of where the secondary was, let alone catch it. Horrible call.
Regarless of whether Utah made the 2-point conversion, they still would have won by 1 point. Sure you could say they wouldn't have the momentum to win the game after that... but still.
The ball was uncatchable...because he was being tackled. He stopped and was laid out. This will go in the Pac-10 officials video, "Video on what is pass interference."
Where is the ball? ohh you cannot see it because it is not catchable.. ohh the WR jumps into the LB and falls over.. this is just so bad. I hate Utah, but not has much as I hate Fresno. Also chanting BCS after the game was so funny. Riiiight. That is just too funny.
ok you're blind if you cant see the ball on the replay. you clearly see the LB look back at the throw and he still interferes. the WR stops to attempt to catch it but the LB rams into him. take the LB out of that play and you would have a catchable ball.
Wow What a bad bad call. I don't care who wins this game but Utes got a very lucky call. The flag came out late for a reason. Home team, home field. Bam! There you go. Merry Christmas!
Thatisjuststupid Because theBeaverswould have been winning by 2points(which it was a badcall that is a no call situation in the Pac). The Utes would have been forced to kick an onside (less than 1:30 in the fourth) the Beavers would have RANTHECLOCKOUT. the U would NOT have kicked the field goal they would NOTEVEN gotten the ball back. The only hope would have been to get the onside HIGHLYUNLIKELY and then kick the field goal
I can't see him out of bounds either, Utes. The uncatchable rule applies whenever the ball is uncatchable. There's nothing in the rules about it being "way, way uncachable." The 2-points is very meaningful b/c the Utes would've onside kicked it down by two with less than 1:30 left. The Utes stole one from a clearly superior team. If this game's on a neutral field, Beavs win by at least two scores. It's not, though, so I congratulate you & the Utes on your 26-28 victory.
I can't see him even close to out of bounds at 0:19 or 0:54. Clearly PI. Pause it at 0:55 remove the beaver and he makes the catch. Clearly NOT uncachable. The uncachable rule applies when the ball is way, way uncachable, not a couple of inches or feet. The 2-points is meaningless because the Utes won by three. The 3 and out and lack of defence in the final mins. lost the beavers this game.

That was clearly PI. The OSU player was all over the Utah player before the ball got there.

Its impossible to tell how far out-of-bounds because the view of the field is blocked by the stands.
