  • Terrific recording--thanks for the e-mail and directing me to more of your fabulous work !! I seem to recall that somewhere in my 50 years plus collection i have a recording of Bunk Johnson and his band with this number 1920 something ? You have a very talented bunch of musicians !!

  • @johnb984 well, thanks! check this live version of a classic of the '20s

    watch?v=C0I2iYEDYWw

Red Pellini is the lead baritonist,i play bass sax there

  • Great arrangement and transcription.

Red Pellini has a beautiful tone and a wonderfully relaxed playing style.

    Funny pics too.

  • @Tyrosaurus thanks! we try our best to render those old songs as fresh as when they were first played..your comment is highly encouraging for our job

  • I love this song, and you are very talented in bringing the big band sounds to life in this current age...Friends, Lloyd.

  • Intriguing listening to Artie's part played on baritone sax - definitely gives it a different & tasty flavor. ;)

You might want to check out my channel this Sunday - I'll be posting one of the purest transfers of an early 78rpm pressing of Artie's "Begin The Beguine" you've ever heard. I'll be posting it Sunday, July 24, 2011 in part because it was originally recorded Sunday, July 24, 1938. :)

  • @SwingMan1937 i'll do it! i know "that" begin the beguine. it's the 024079-1 side according toSimosko's book on Artie. by the way, have you ever heard the sept 18th broadcast of Beg the Beg with George Koenig on lead alto? i'd love to hear it..

  • @annanoli Sure don't - outside of the early 1950's 2-LP set RCA Victor issued, I have none of Artie's airchecks (currently don't have an LP/45 player).

  • @SwingMan1937 what a pity! just purchase "king of the clarinet artie shaw and his orchestra", a 3 cd set with live performances 1938-1939..a must you should get asap! look on amazon for samples

  • @annanoli Used to have that back in the 1990's - was stolen.

  • Well thanks for the kind comment. we did our best, and Pellini is a genius on his own...i'll write you separately

    bye

  • Again, a stroke of genus to assign Artie's part to the beri! (I didn't do it in my version because you're thought was so original--it really belongs only to you). Your version is AN IMPROVEMENT on the original! I have the scanner up and running; and it works perfect! The PDF copies look as good as the originals on screen. (The scanner is designed for photographic film and prints, so it has a higher dpi and better lens). Anyway, my son will start scanning scores for you in about a week!

  • Excellent- congratulations to all on a job well done, great sound on the recording too!

  • @MrNorthernRed Thanks! i did the transcription. the baritonist is the well known and good friend Fabiano "Red" Pellini. the Studio is "Zerodieci Studio" in Genoa
