apart for clear cutting virgin forest which is heinous act in itself, its very sad how stupid ignorant people cut such beautiful giants and creatures for the dumbest and most idiotic reason..leave the dam old tree alone..it took thousands of years for it to grow..have some respect for the old man lol.
And this will be our legacy in the future. There we will have nothing to be proud soon. Our destructiveness stupidity and selfishness is all we will have left for ourselves on our ravaged planet
Would you rather let them all rot than log any, so people can live in houses made of wood, read a book or a newspaper, or print a picture of these trees.
I live on 5 acres of land that was clear-cut many years ago and I have fir trees approaching 4 feet through.
I've had people think my trees are first growth.
One of these trees is about 30 inches at the base and the first limb is 100 feet up.
It is arrow straight.
Sure we need to preserve some, but the fact is, they are dying.
In Australia they have had Eucalyptus regnans (Swamp Gum) measured up to 430ft, so they have been the home of the tallest trees in the world, however because these giants were so tall, many were felled just to measure their height as technology in the 1800's consisted of little more than a tape measure.
Regarding the oldest tree. Lagarostrobos Franklinii is a sprawling pine in Tasmania. It is not a triffid, but spreads and feeds itself in greener pastures. It does this as the same individual. Outcrops of this individual plant can exist for over 10,000 years. This makes it easily the oldest living organism. Let's investigate this claim.
Someone help me with regards to the oldest tree. It might be Tasmanian, too. A sprawling plant, maybe Eucalypt, maybe Eucalytus Niphophila. I don't know.
It starts its life in one place, but slowly moves off to greener pastures. But it's the same plant. Hasn't evidence been found that some of these individuals eclipse current 'stationary' record holders for the oldest tree?
you might be thinking of Huon Pine - Lagarostrobos franklinii. Individuals can live for a long time, thousands of years. Wikipedia "A stand of trees reputed to be in excess of 10,500 years in age was recently found in North Western Tasmania on Mount Read. Each of the trees in this stand is a genetically identical male that has reproduced vegetatively. Although no single tree in this stand is of that age, the stand itself as a single organism has existed that long". maybe true, maybe not! :)
Eucalyptus regnans, grows tall but unfortunately doesn't age gracefully, by the time it reaches these mammoth heights, it's probably got rot and slowly dieing back. Even though 400 years is a long time in Human years, in the plant world these are just babies. Giant sequoia's, Bristlecone Pine,Huon pine, King Billy all live to over 1000 years.
Ive been there:)

douglas firs also reached those heights before they were cruelly cut.
im just curious how tall a sequoia would grow if under ideal conditions and without lighting cutting off their tops

How tall is it ?

it would look good as veneer over my entire house.

this exquisite tree looks identical to the General Grant Tree in Sequoia National Park in California
