  • Agreed: Asiana stewardesses are really hot! They must be pretty sexist with the hiring process, mind you

  • agree, foreigner makes money much easy over VN by teaching English

  • Police: "Pull Over"

Me: "I don't speak Vietnamese. But I hear Mr. Hamilton/Mr. Jackson does."

    Police: "Go."

  • Very informational video, right on the money. Hey Grace maybe you need to use a "Douche". Just because he lists a few common items beer, smokes, milk, bread, and coke you think this is problem. He is right on about the police, I have also been here for about a year now and have only had one run in. No helmet=200,000VND. I can't speak enough to ask the cops to give me a ticket so I just paid it and left.

  • "I have also been here for about a year now and have only had one run in. No helmet=200,000VND"

LOL you don't care if you live or die... I'd be less concerned about a fine and more concerned about getting my head split open but I guess that's just me...

  • Are there jobs there that pay for your rent (which is the norm in Korea and China)?

  • Thanks mate for sharing your ideas.

Im looking forward to my 1-year contract now in september!

  • Smokin hot ! You sound really professional kid .

  • @Brandon Hi...I want to move to Vietnam as soon as possible. I would like to teach english until the Ho Tram Casino opens in 2013. Do I need a BS degree to teach or is an ESL certificate ok? Thanks.

  • hey brandon! good vid. Im doin my TEFL just now, Im from Scotland, 23. for a long time, my plans have been to find my first teaching work in thailand, but now I've heard so many good things about doing it in Vietnam that I think its gonna be my first stop instead!

do you think I should just find somewhere to stay in hanoi, and apply for jobs?

also, I dont have a degree. should that matter in Vietnam? all Ill have is a TEFL qualification.

  • I didn't like your comments about bribing the police in VN. The Australian government is assisting the VN Government stop corruption and the VN Gov are welcoming the help to combat this problem so every time someone 'bribes' an official even if the official may not have asked for a bribe doesn't help stop the problem. DON'T EVER PAY BRIBES message passed on to all international visitors to VN. The message needs to get through - and yes the VN Govn't are improving - just give them time.

  • @veenaga71

not understanding a police officer is not the same thing as bribing one...

  • @veenaga71 i totally agree with you.And i think that noone is perfect, no country is perfect,

  • HIi Brandon, thank you for the information. It is very helpful. My name is Rick I was wondering if you know of any other website in HCM city or Vung Tau area instead. Do you know if people make as much as people in the South as in the North. What kind of certification do you have and what kind of qualification they required? Thanks Rick

  • When you went to teach English.. did any of the students know English? You said you started teaching the next day? Did they tell you how to teach the class or did you have to figure it out yourself? I'm half Vietnamese from Canada but I don't speak Viet so therefore I wanted to move there so I could learn quicker.. but I only have my English 11 since I dropped out of school. Do you think I could still become a teacher there? Or do they ask for proof?

  • Heres some good advice that could be a little more helpful to anyone watching this video, if you arrive in Vietnam like Joe Wanderer and want to walk around with a target on your back saying rob me take the train. If you dont want this to happen research the culture before you arrive, learn some of the language research the internet for tourist scams its not that hard . Get a perspective on yourself before you think youll find it in Vietnam.

  • If you think Vietnamese Police leave you alone because they cant speak english, wrong genius the Vietnamese Police see duece bags like you as street meat . Your cocky elevated intellect is screaming to be taken, robbed, and abused Vietnamese

Police dont worry about the tourists like you because you bring it on yourselves. They see Joe Wanderer arrive all heads up looking for magic and cheap romance

you are your own worst enemy , all ego.

  • Your advice is ridiculous, your manner in the camera frame projects arogance and a

lack of knowledge toward representing a perspective of Vietnam. Your first mistake

cost you dearly and financially , you did say that Vietnam is a totally foreign country i think the most foreign thing to you is respect. If beer and cigarettes is the first thing

you can express with excitement and oggle the stewardesses you are a beacon for

pick pockets and thieves. You need to look deeper inside yourself

  • my bad. i commented before finishing watching the video. sorry

  • nice video bro. im heading to taiwan in july to teach english. how much are you paying a month for that apartment youre in?

  • Vietnam is a rediculously corrupt country, even though most people make a few dollars a day, the people that are well off are governement officials believe it or not.

  • Are u still teaching English in vn? Can I have ur email adress? My friend is gonna visit vn this summer and he wants to look for a job as an English teacher .

  • Are you still in Vietnam?

  • have you met a lot of girls in there?

  • good info. i have a similar question as mblwindenergy that was posted 3 months ago. can you please answer? "What kind of visa did you get, do you get any help from the school with that? " also, what certificates/documents did you bring along with you? thanks in advance!

  • why did you choose to teach in vietnam?

  • I don't think people in Hanoi or HCMC making 3 USD / day

  • @KatiushaVN4 well i vietnamese friends who work 14 ,15 hour days at there shops and get paid 65,000 vnd a day which is about 3.25 us but im glad to hear that you dont think so , i know so

  • @brandonzahn

Well, I also live in Vietnam, and I'm Vietnamese. I make roughly 900 USD/ month and hardly survive. I don't have to pay for my rent because I have a house in district 1. My friends make 1,500 ~ 2,000 USD a month. There is 2 of my friend earning more than 8,000 USD a month because they have their own business. Since you live in HCMC or Hanoi, you should know that the living cost there for certain items are even more expensive than in U.S.A such as meat (I've been to U.S.A before)

  • @KatiushaVN4 and meat is only more expensive if your dumb enough to buy it in a supermarket if your vietnamese maybe you should try living like a vietnamese maybe life wont be so hard for you

  • @KatiushaVN4 I am Vietnamese also living in HCMC and seriously if you have a house in district 1 rent the fucking house out for 2000-3000 US a month , then go find some place outside for 200 US a month

  • @lamina198

    Watch your language

  • @KatiushaVN4 Seriously man , quit commenting on videos , I lose a fuck load of brain cells every time I read one of your comments .

  • @KatiushaVN4 i didnt say everyone makes that little i know there are rich people here too but guess what the majority of people dont make more than 3 or 4 dollars a day go ask a construction labourer or a waitress what she makes or the people selling post cards and sunglasses. or anyone working at the markets or selling fruit or police men just because you and your friends make a lot of money, doesnt mean everyone does. dont be ignorant.

  • @brandonzahn 100US a month is the salary for university graduated students who just started working .

The average income is a lot lower 30-50USD a month

  • @brandonzahn you don't need to reply to KatiushaVN4. I don't know what her purpose to claim to be Vietnamese, but obviously she is Chinese.

  • @brandonzahn cops make a lot over there and they are considered royalty to most people. They bribe like no other.

  • I'm thinking about moving to Vietnam. I'm currently teaching in Japan. My main objective is to learn Vietnamese. So here's my question: How's your Vietnamese coming along?

  • do you still teach in vietnam?

  • Did you obtain TEFL certification prior to your arrival? I know some places do not require certification, so I am curious. Thanks!

  • You're right about that douchebag part. Ha!

  • Ok, a few questions to start. What kind of visa did you get, do you get any help from the school with that? I will travelling in Thailand prior to moving to Vietnam, just wondering how long that will take to get. What do you do for banking over there? And last, for now, did you choose to stay in Hanoi because of your finacial situations or some other reasons? Thanks
