This movie was absolutely MAGIC for me. I loved the story, I loved Oblio, I loved Arrow, and most of all I LOVED all of the incredible music. I could never understand why on earth it wasn't shown every year like The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, (I loved all three of them as well. Thank God we live in a time when treasures like this are available.
I too watched "The Point" back then. What a wonderful critical commentary it was about our very dead, conforming time. And how fun! I didn't realize that Dustin Hoffman did the voice of the father. How perfect. He is still a BIG critic of our very self-centered, self-destructive, self-absorbed society now.
I watched "The Point" when it was originally broadcast, in 1971, and I loved it. Dustin Hoffman did the voice of the father, then. Harry Nilsson's music was very popular in the early 70's.
the Beatles held Harry Nilsson in highest regard as the most influential american artist of their time. so yeah, I'm pretty sure they shared their sounds
I think this was on the air just one time. It was around Christmas. My sister and I just happened to be watching ABC when it came on. We were glued to the screen. Such originallity and great music writing. This had Ringo Starr and Mike Lookinglass from the Brady Bunch also. Thanks for posting, and thanks for bringing back such great memories.
To All The Guys From the EVEREST at The Olympic HOTEL - Fallsburg, NY 1971-73 and my room mates Richie C, Drew K and In Loving Memory of Donny Mitsler....Dave C, Steve K, Joe D...Wow

This and other songs from "The Point" are so good; all of Nilsson's stuff during this 5 or so year period was great. He was in his prime.

Much Beatle influence in The Point, just wonder if they were "there".

john lennon was quoted saying harry nilsson was the best singer songwriter of there time... so maybe they were "there"...

I think Lennon and Ringo were house mates with Harry during those drinking years

Thanks for that info :) I always did wonder how they connected/reminded me of each other a bit.

@skilski2003 Well, Ringo is the narrator so it's likely.

This sounds a lot like the Beatles. The surrealist cartoons reminds me of "Yellow Submarine", but in a different drawing style.
