I too have listened to about 15 versions of this song, and this is definitely the best on Youtube. Tom T's version will always be special to me cause it's the first I ever heard and he's from my county in the hills. You guys do this very well. Listening to most of the other versions reminded me of the huge difference between good bluegrass and bad. This is definitely the former.
I have just watched 20+- versions of this on youtube.Yours is the best, even better than Zac Brown Band's version.I think it's the tempo and harmonies.
Um, Is the banjo player wearing a red blanket, white heeled booties and a t-shirt? And the bass player has shorts on? Nevermind, it's a nice rendition of the song.
I lvoe bluegrass music..Coming from a 16 year old.. Playing bluegrass now a days for kids is tough.. cuz lots of kids dont know what it is. But me, my mom, my dad & little sister sing this song.. :D <3 its amazing!
Love this song, great job! One of the guys that play in our band told us about ya'll (Can you tell I'm from Texas) God has blessed you with great talent!
I loved this version and im proud to say it was my uncle who wrote this song in the late 60s for manfred mann and hes Tony hazzard so look him up and you will see other great songs hes written and played and im sure he thanks every one for the great comments about the song
@JoeFroe Thanks joe,i think he did a few albums in the early 70s and i believe he could have enhanced his career as a singing artist as hes got some great songs on those albums as in i am the potter,i think im over getting over you, sweet ruby ruby nite time being my favourites, which ones did you take too.
Wow, I just did some research on this song and was surprised. It was first sung by Mannfred Mann...Emerson and Waldron joined up and changed the song to a bluegrass classic in 1968. I thought this had always been a bluegrass song...LOL I think I like it better than the original anyways! Thanks, y'all!
I keep coming back to this version. I think it's the crisp banjo that attracts me but the whole group do a nice tight job. For those who want the original lyrics and harmony, better go listen to the Manfred Mann oldie goodie. Nice job gentelmen!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the playing was good but the singing just slaughtered a good BLUEGRASS song, this isnt "old rock" the country gentlemen perform it wayy better. good picking though. (the chorus lyrics are wrong to lol)
I've heard many versions of this song but this one is by far the best one out there, even better than "Country Gentlemen". My only criticism is that I wish it was done with better recording equipment. As far as the lyrics are concerned, I don't think that any two groups do it the same .
apparently u don't know what GOOD BLUEGRASS IS. but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. on this one like all the rest the good comments outweigh the bad.
While I also believe the Country Gentlemen did it better, this is also a GREAT version. They are sittin around pickin and grinnin, it wasnt set up to be done greatly. If you cant spot the talent in this group and realize they can BLOW THIS OUT OF THE WATER when they "Turn it on" then your clueless.
Oh, and this IS an OLD ROCK SONG, Manfred Mann, the 60's-70's ROCK group recorded it first.
Well boys it is just me again enjoying your great picking and harmonizing I know I have said it time and time again but every time I listen to it it just gets better. Seriously give some thought to swinging up to North Dakota for our Bluegrass Festivals.
Hi,,This banjo is a Earl Scruggs Standard,Gibson Mastertone. I now have a DP Hopkins Renaissance Gold that you can hear on "Nine Pound Hammer," "Man of Constant Sorrow," "Rambling Letters" and "Next Sunday Darling is My Birthday," all videos we have on You Tube. Thanks for listening!

Hey everybody,, we really appreciate the comments. We first heard the Country Gentlemen do this song back in the seventies and almost every band around here covered it. Maybe it will be popular again one day.
As I was listening to this song again today I just realized that some remakes are better left slow if they were made that way but the way you guys picked up the tempo just nailed it to perfection. again great job guys you should seriously think about attending the Bluegrass festival at the Cross Ranch park in North Dakota by the way it is held in the summer.
Man I listen to this at least once a day just to get my spirit up and remember when music was good and not garbage like it is today and when people could actually play instruments, and you didnt have to be some beauty queen to make it big just talent and a good voice or harmonizing.
anyways great job guys keep plugging away at it and you will hit her big.
