Hey yall about the whole news about a Jeep Wrangler recently beating the highest altitude record was incorrect. I am 100% certain that it was a Suzuki Samuri, not a jeep.
Veraforozza.hmmmmm Well there chap its been awhile since we botted heads and i oowned you as usual. Where have you been where did you go? Are you currently coming up with another BS story to try and wow the millions. I hope so i havent had a good laugh in awhile..Take care... Ohh and happy holidays to ya
I had to sell my FJ when I moved to Europe and I really do miss the FJ :( but the good part is that I have since bought an 07 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 3.0 turbo diesel which basically is a Lexus GS470 in the states. Love it and t is one of the most reliable 4x4s I have ever owned. way to go Toyota!
I bought an FJ when I came home from Iraq. My buddies who own Jeeps used to talk trash calling it a mall crawler, soccer mom vehicle, etc.........Then I went wheelin' with them. The names stopped, only thing they said was that the FJ needed a solid front axle, which I agree. Other than that, the truck can be beast, given it has the right driver, just like a Jeep....Plus, Jeeps are cliche 4x4's these days.
@RidgeRunner88 Any Jeep made after 1986 is not an icon. More like a poser vehicle. Willy's, Ford, Kaiser, and AMC for the win.....Sorry to all you Chrysler Jeep owners, open your eyes.
@RidgeRunner88 Hate on what? I just stated facts...Any real off road enthusiast would probably agree. Its no different then people rolling around in H2's and H3's claiming they own a Hummer, when 9 out of 10 guys would say that there is only one true Hummer...What makes Jeep different? I believe there are only certain models that make Jeep what its known for, and none of those come from the Chrysler line up. IMO.
@thelemonlite What facts? Rubicons have Dana 44's? Lockers front AND rear? Electronically discoing sway bar? 4:10's with stock mud tires? Scoring an 882 RTI score stock?
Show me a stock production vehicle in the same price that will out wheel a stock Rubicon. They are far and few between.
There's a reason Jeep is at or near the top in every offroading/4x4/wheeling magazine.
@RidgeRunner88 You quoted a brochure....Bravo!! I'll take a 70 series Land Cruiser or a CJ7...Just give it up man, your living in denial...Once Chrysler shipped Jeeps production lines overseas they lost all credibility. I like Jeeps, I just prefer the originals/American made Jeeps. The only 4x4 that comes close to being fully domestic is the Toyota Tundra. I will say this though, if the concept Jeep Renegade comes into production, I might jump on the Wrangler bandwagon.
@thelemonlite Funny you mentioned that, the Jeep Wrangler is manufactured by American automaker Chrysler (Detroit actually, not Japanese like the Toyota) and have been (and are currently) built in Canada and the US.
@thelemonlite Nice defensive mechanisms. Denial and not answering to facts.
To put it more blatantly, the FJ Cruiser has been stacked against the Rubicon many times in many different magazines. The outcome is always the same with the Rubi on top.
@RidgeRunner88 Thats fine. I'm in the military, so when it comes to wheelin' I'm more of a weekend warrior, so my FJC is a DD for me. Like I said before, I like Jeeps, but in todays world its about longevity, and Toyota has a better reputation when it comes to that and dependability. But I have never thought it was fair to run an FJC against a Rubi. Maybe a Sahara or Sport....Good debate though.
@thelemonlite I have no idea what our careers/jobs have to do with anything, but I'm in law enforcement. I believe most people that wheel are "weekend warriors" such as you and I and not professional offroaders. My YJ is a dedicated offroad rig, but can also be street driven. As far as longevity/dependability regarding the FJ Cruiser, the thing has only been around for 5 years. Hardly the test of time Jeep has endured.
Nice chatting. Would love to wheel with you sometime. ;)
@RidgeRunner88 The FJ (Land Cruisers) have been around since 1957 in America, and has existed in some form since 1941. They're the most traveled vehicles on earth and hold more world records & 'firsts' than all other 4x4 combined... that's a phenomenal track record, just saying.
This particular Land Cruiser has been around for a while too, Prado chassis. It's the same proven platform as the Tacoma (TLC with truck body). These things win Baja, and have driven to the North Pole, they're proven.
@seventhSabra The FJ Cruiser has nothing in common with the FJ40 besides its looks. It's funny you mentioned world records, a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon just beat the world record for highest altitude achieved with a vehicle. The driver beat his last world record when you used a Land Cruiser.
Yes, it uses the same suspension as a 120 series Land Cruiser from 2002. A Honda Ridgeline has won the Baja 1000 in its class; doesn't mean it's a good wheeler or proven. A great team and a lot money = win.
@RidgeRunner88 Actually it does, it's a modern version of the FJ40, and as much as I love my FJ40 and FJ45, the FJC is a better vehicle (my FJ45 has 39.5" tires so adjusting for tire size of course). It doesn't just use the suspension, the chassis is the same, the engine/drivetrain are off the much proven Tacoma platform. WR for vehicle altitude isn't much considering they strip it down to a can on wheels and a fuel tank. Jeeps still can't make it up to Everest BC, or operate in the Antarctic.
@RidgeRunner88 sorry dude i have nothing against jeep but that highest altitude newest record was done with a Suzuki Samuri, idk where you are hearing jeep wrangler. They look similar, but I am 100% certain that it was a Suzuki Samuri.
@ZzoldpeopleburningzZ nah fj's are for people who love to off-road jeeps are for fuckin haters who act like nothing else will make it up unless it has a jeep logo right YOU FUCKIN HATER
Nice stock fj veraforzza, but it's perfectly fine, you could probably climb that mountain with your 16 pairs of prosthetic limbs which you posses. You could also quite possibly just skydive onto the top of it with your personal plain that you also own. One last option would be to just buy the mountain since you obviously have limitless resources.
research land rover reliability. IT SUCKS!!! Research Trophy Trucks that take 3 ft pot holes like nothin. Straight axle isn't too practical, just the old school way. come across the wrong scenario and ur just gonna put that bitch in reverse.
I hate when people try to compare jeeps to ( insert other car/truck)
They are totally different and designed for different things.
If you want a capable rig to run 2000 miles across the country in comfort and not have your girl friends ass smelling like ass when you get there. An FJ Cruiser isn't a bad choice .
Jeeps are great all around but modify it and quickly becomes a trail rig, or a death trap on the road. what ever you prefer.
Want to go threw 5' mud pits? get a full sized truck.
ive owned both rubicon and fj have to say the fj seems to eat up a little more trail than the rubicon ... but then again im only 17 so how much does my opinion matter
@harrisoncooney205 you lucky bastard you 17 been driving for two whole years and youve already owned 2 $25000+ trucks man what am i doing wrong lucky bastard
Fan/Owner of old domestics (muscle cars) and Toyota 4x4's (86' sas, 86' sas w/ 22re-t, FJC). I rely on my Toys for the trails very dependable. Sorry that fuhmergan calling names. I think it's the CEO's of the big 3 who's the traitor. Their the one's slaving the workers yet taking a major profit (flying private jets yet begging for tax payers money), making crappy products, and always on the tail end of trends because they never listen to the consumer's instead follows the competition.
@monkayest93 The CEO's are slaving their workers? Do you honestly think that's what is wrong with the big three? The unions are sucking the life out of every aspect of these companies. I believe it was a previous GM CEO who said that when he went to work his first day he thought he was going to be the CEO of a great American car manufacturer but quickly realized he was CEO of a giant health insurance company that just happened to make cars on the side. Unions are KILLING the big three.
@BSMEPilot Oh totally! In detail, they ALL have take part in the scheme. I just used CEO's as one example of how they represented themselves in public when the bubble burst but sure there's more reason to the madness. Back in the days their job was taking care the blue collar and production numbers second. That's when quality was over quantity! Thanks for reminding me about the union!
Only a traitor can't play on his own team - and buys Jap - to send his dollars overseas - instead of keeps them in the U.S.A. with Jeep employees. (think about it Toyota-boy ... you're a femme traitor tried and true.)
@fuhmeregan dude that argument ended decades ago not only do the Japs build thier shit here but think about all the salls men parts departments service shops that only work imports many jobs maned right here by amaricans
Bunch of fucking retards on this video. Gotta love Blakspire and gpman, you can always tell the mental cases who go on writing 20+ unanswered replies to themselves. You guys can rip on verasforzza all you want, but he's not the one with no life replying to his own comments like you retards are doing. How about drop it and get on with life.
I currently own a modded FJ and a AEV Brute Jeep, the Fj can do everything the Jeep can and more despite 5" smaller tires, Brute crawls better, that's it.
@gistabo19 Agreed. the fj wouldn't even exist if it weren't for jeep. So all you people out there arguing about solid axles can thank jeep for the fj's existence.
ohh also there veras boy explain to us how the FJ lost to the JK rubicon in petersons 4wheeldrive. The FJ only had one thing speed. But off road marks went to the rubicon.hmmm could a respected syndicated magazine be wrong??..lmao Dont think so bub the FJ just lost in 95 perent of the test with its cartoonish style to its weak IFS and A trac it couldt compare to the fully locked Rubicon which scored higher on nearly every point. Th FJ just won in race to the waters edge on a beach thats it.. lol
@verasforzza $200,000 is no excuse to be a Doiche Bag... What? Doiche isnt a word either? It is in Beer Fest, which renders your argument invalid. That and the fact that you are a bitch. I mean that too. From the bottom of everything that is me, i will lose sleep tonight trying to figure out a way to let you see yourself as everyone else on this stupid ass website sees you. Its kind of like walking in someone else's shoes, only with regards to your own suck.
I think the jeep has much more soul than the toyota. the jeep seems to be a much more fun truck. and convertable with removable doors, toyotas too boaring for that kind of stuff.
May 2010 issue there slap nuts if you want to xcheck out my claim. To bad the little FJ did all it could but was ousted by the Rubicon. The IFS was not favored nor the A-trac set up (fancy name for limited slip). But it held high marks in speed across a desert. Just faltered at everything else it was not even visually appealing, they said it was almost cartoonish...lol The JK Rubicon won face it.
verasforzza is baja this baja that, so what, basically his fj competes with a montero. Not even in the same category as a jeep, unless you are talking a jeep liberty. lol.
Get a Jeep and you wouldn't have to prove that it could make it. Jeeps have been proven time and time again that in the rockiest terrain and deepest mud, stock for stock they will outperform the FJ. BTW, veras, I'm sure you will read this so i'm leaving it just for you ;) lol
@semisonic86 Only a complete douchebag fanboy tool would still support Jeep. They score dead last in every test. They can't go half of the places a Land Cruiser can. They under-perform. And if that isn't enough, they went bankrupt because people were sick of buying their shitty cars. First they sell you the shitbox Jeep, then because there aren't enough idiots out there to buy their crap, they need a gov bailout which really means you just gave them more money as a reward for their failure.
@verasforzza lmao alright there dumbass go purchase the petersons 4 wheeldrive mag JK FG smack down. Toyota excelled at one thing ....speed across a desert. Every magazine ive read The FJ falls short on steep hill climbs rock crawling mudding but yet they did say if you want to get to water first the get FJ but if you want to have an adventure on the way get the rubicon. You claim to be so smart but have no idea how to research.
@verasforzza oop FJ i mean my bad but hey i can at least fess up to my mistake The FJ and JK smackdown in petersens 4wd magazine compared the 2. They both did well however the FJs IFS was not a favorite for rock crawling hill climbing etc. The JK however proved itself on and off road to be a great mannered vehicle. The FJ excelled at one thing. Speed across the sand. everything else went to jeep. The JK Rubicon won hands down. look it up.
@verasforzza Ohh and i much rather have a car from a company in bankruptcy then drive for a company that it took a federal investigation for them to fess up somehing was wrong with there so called quality cars. Toyotas quality crisis has cost the lives of 9 people here in the states and a few in europe. Yeah Toyota quality what a joke. But hey unless a legitimate news program such as CNN is lieing then youre arguments hold about as much water as a net.
@verasforzza Would like to see proof that they score LAST in EVERY test. Last time i checked, i believe Toyotas were the ones with the shitbox. Aren't they under investigation? I would rather support a company that was mismanaged than support a company of crooks. again, Just Sayin.
actually, your precious fj cruiser would compete with the likes of the montero, which has won 18 dakar rallies, so fuck baja and your lame purple stock fj cruiser. thats right, I know who you really are. ladyboy.
wow...verasforzza really has something he needs to prove! lol. i say he wins just because he's steadfast and he BRINGS IT ON when it comes to youtube arguing. HAHA!
verasforzza is some twat whose wife bought a purple fj cruiser. I know who he is, there is nothing mysterious or grandiose about his life, he's just a ladyboy amputee with no life trolling on youtube while his poor wife supports the pathetic charity case.
@meutoober HAHAHAHAAH. Really, REALLY? Ok, 1st off shit for brains, there isn't a Purple FJ. 2nd, my wife didn't buy one. 3rd you don't know me. 4th, my life is grandiose. 5th, my life is as good as it gets, I make more money in a couple days than you do in a year. Go to the Vatican, you can see some of my work. 6th, my wife doesn't support me, she makes $180K/year, I make more than that every 2 weeks.
The only ones trolling here are you guys who keep talking about me when I'm gone for a month.
But other than the useless piece of skin of Vera. As i mentioned the FJ is a very capable vehicle but every 4x4 mag that has done a story on them are not keen on the IFS. Althought they all agree its a comfortable ride on the road it is prone to rock or stump damage and is costly to repair. My buddie has a 07 FJ and went muddin snapped his CV and blew out the ring gear upon the snap...cost to repair 2200 bucks at yota dealer. So they are nice but be careful on the abuse
The FJ is a awesome vehicle but it has been proven countless time that the IFS or independant front suspension on a 4x4 is a headache waiting to happen. Im not saying it out of disrespect i know its capable just im not fond of the IFS concept they do offer a solid axel conversion tho which i found to be pretty bad ass. check it out
a-trac useage nice! and 80% of the FJ is made in japan guys where toyota is suppose to be also note the fact that toyota has shut down the california plant and a few other plants this should help any future americians from screwing up their cars im proud to be one but we cant make a car thats worth a thing
@smrfnlo 100% of the FJ Land Cruisers are made in Japan.
And for all those idiots why say "buy a Jeep, it supports American jobs because it's make in America by Americans." How wrong you are. First of all, Toyota makes more cars in America than most American companies, the Land Cruiser is one of the few models they always make in Japan, and it shows in its impeccable quality. Most Jeeps are being made in Canada and Mexico, the ones made in the US are built by cheap illegal immigrant labor.
@verasforzza i was at the stealership a couple days before i got mine and the 2010 tag said 80% of parts are from japan on the window sticker it could be wrong infact i hope it is
@smrfnlo thats true, but also on the paper that they stick to a window saying mpg, and stuff (like features crash rating and such aka spec sheet) it said that only the transmission was really assembled here in the u.s for fj's
My wifes rubicon is a 06 and it has its flaws as well but even tho its tippy due to short wheelbase its a beast in the mud and on the rocks. Tho she doesnt drive it much we always jump in the XJ dont have to worry about scratching the paint on it....lol so she mainly used the Rubi to go to work and school and i use the FJ to and from post
but alot of off road mags liked it but had alot of dilikes if anyone is looking for a dependable suv to commute and road trips the FJ is nice the back seat and access to back seat sucks trying yo close rear door isnt for the weak other than that great road trip car for couples me and my wife love it but i wouldnt go to far off pavement. i took mine off road one day and my CV shafts in front blew aprt along with gear box and that was a small mud hole. almost 3000 later it was back on the road
@usaairforce1 The name of the trail is rubicon. Oh and the recall isnt on the fj idiot. Go to toyota's website and jeep's website and compare the wrangler and FJ the FJ comes out on top.
unfortunately The FJ does come out on top right at top of mall crawlers. The front ends are junk IFS systems are prone to breaking but they provide road comfort. Not to mention the rear lockers are prone to failure they are ok light to medium wheeling where as the rubicon the lockers are fairly beefy. initially the FJ wins however in a long term view the Rubicon and any yj xj or tj haqve a proven record of reliability. Before you go hating i have a 2007 FJ
@gypman921 Another idiot who knows nothing about what he says, just spouting off crap. See, unlike you, I have a Master's in Architectural Engineering, I also have one of my undergrad degrees in Physics. IFS systems are now stronger than solid axles, they can take far more force. If IFS was crap then why is it used on the M1A1 Abrams Tank? Why is it used on Hummers? APC's? The landing gear for fighter and jumbo jets is basically IFS. Try taking a 20ft jump at 110mph on a solid front...fail.
@verasforzza lmao IFS is garbage for off road use Why do you think the hmmvee is being phased. and the M1A1 IFS?...lmao yet again you havent a clue The M1A1 suspension is in it multiple rollers the drive wheels however are fixed in short they dont move. But hey you have a degree in this stuff and lets see you have a psych degree a engineering and other accolades at 32?...lmao
@gypman921 Wrong again grunt. There you go with the jealousy again. Once you have a few degrees, it's easy to get more since you've taken the core classes, and it's not as if I'm getting a 4-year undergrad degree every time (even if I was, I did my 5-year undergrad in 3 years). Master's programs are 2 years. I get a lot done - I don't watch TV (AT ALL). I grew up without TV. I started reading my Dad's microsurgery books at age 4. Part of being a genius is doing things faster than normal people.
@verasforzza first off boy i am no where in the hemisphere of jealous second of all i dont give a damn what youve done and thirdly the only thing you are a expert at is being a joke. Unlike you i learn from hands on experience. Ive learned enough to place a tool like you in the shed. Keep going tho youre hilarity is up lifting
@verasforzza lol you dont watch TV but love to insult people here on the internet yeah youre going far bub. im sooooo impressed. personally i think you are nothing more than a dillusional douchebag that has all these claims but no testicular fortitude to prove anything. But hey if you get off by degrading other people you are only degrading yourself and making you look like a jackass.
@verasforzza not to mention if you are this super genius that you claim then what is youre name or hell how about a published book youve wrote. By being this genius you wouldnt worry about a grunt such as me stealing youre identity you should have the latest precautions. Ohh wait then that would prove youre a fraud a joke a dillusional loser that hides behind his apparent privacy argument that holds about as much water as a fish net. You lose...again tah tah
@verasforzza Not to mention jack ass look up FJ breaken right here on youtube you will see IFS on drive wheels suck balls. Theyre weak For serious wheeling solids are stronger reliable and require little maintenance. Every 4x4 mag will tell you that IFS is not for a serious wheeler. Great for mall crawlin tho. Youre pathetic argument has zero basis ive seen IFS fail on Yotas fords and GMs which are all great cars in there own respect so try again.
@gypman921 Wrong again. Where's your degree in physics? Where's your degree in Architectural Engineering? Oh, you don't have any such education, well I do. When it come to the amount of force that can be exerted on a component, IFS is many time more strong than a solid front axle. Sure, anything can break, I can show you tons of videos where a solid axle barely bumps a rock and the thing breaks. There's also a lot of other things that can cause a malfunction, it's not IFS fault.
@verasforzza lmao i do have a degree in engineering...shame isnt it as well as field work both in Army as well as civilian. ive been working on trucks for 16 years and i do have my license. imagine that as well as countless articles saying IFS is great for on road comfort. but yet you never see a serious rock crawler with it hmmm. oh thats right cuz they are weak prone to break at the CV shafts and the steering knuckle. You really are a jackass Try again
@verasforzza Why is the hmmvee being phased out of military? Because its the IFS shaft not protected such as in a solid not to mention the angles of the shafts although great for on road off road they are prone to failure. Seen it happen to many times so they are being replaced with the MRAP which comes in various applications but every one of them has a locked minimum 3 ton solid axel bothe forward and aft. Go do some research man you open youre mouth and all that come forth is useless banter
You mean architectural "engineering", pretty liberal with the work engineering in that major. Even if you actually did have those degrees, neither one means you know shit about this subject matter as is evidenced by your retarded comment: "When it come to the amount of force that can be exerted on a component, IFS is many time more strong than a solid front axle"
This is wrong on several different levels and speaks volumes to your actual education.
@GreenLabraHeeler Agreed, I don't have a degree, but i have seen what does and does not work. Light wheeling is fine for IFS, but travel, articulation and strength all go to solid axle. This isn't even an argument, just an idiot.
@Blakspire There's a little something called PHYSICS that proves otherwise. IFS can withstand many time more force than a solid axle, why do you think Baja trucks, military tanks, APC's and even aircraft suspension is all variants of IFS. Travel, nope, you're wrong again. The very nature of a solid axle limits travel... articulation works on the same principal. If solids were the best, they'd be used on billion dollar off road vehicles like Mars Rovers, but they aren't.
@verasforzza Where did you get your degree? My guess is the mail. Since when do lateral forces across the forged steel and sheet metal hangers of the FJ, equal the strength and reliability of a dana 44? They don't. When properly engineered, (Lets say OshKosh's new M-ATV, and for a stretch the Hummer H1) IFS can have advantages, like lets say saving weight, or handling better at high speeds. Take a look at Payloaders, Hundreds of thousands of dollars, what do they use? Solid axle.
@verasforzza How in the hell is a tank a variant of IFS? HANDLING HANDLING HANDLING. That is all IFS has. CV joints from the factory are known to be weak, along with the rack and pinion steering that usually comes with it. I dont care how much you wheel, where you have done it, or how many POS imported luxury 4x4's you have. I will take my Rubicon on 35's ANYWHERE you take them. I live in Kodiak, Alaska... Come up, i'll even pay for your hotel room.
@Blakspire IFS has survived both poles, Mt Everest, the Gobi, the Sahara, Baja 1000, Taupo 1000, Alaska (there's harsher places than Kodiak), all of Australia (one of the main testing grounds for Toyota Land Cruisers), Moab, Rubicon trail, all of Africa, the Mid East, and everywhere else.
No, you won't take your POS Rubicon with 35's anywhere I take my TLCs. Jeeps don't work in Antarctica, they can't reach Everest Base camp and you might survive Baja, but you'll be 20hrs behind a TLC.
@verasforzza Firstly, Using Rubicon trail as an example of harsh terrain is about as intelligent as your IFS argument. THE FUCKING JEEP IS DESIGNED FOR THE RUBICON TRAIL. Dude, you can say all you want about IFS, the FACT is that Offroad enthusiasts prefer solid axle, it is more durable and reliable, hands down. You cannot argue this fact. IFS is not worthless, Its good in high speed high frequency trails. Thats about it. You ignorant mail order education fuck.
@verasforzza lol again my dear boy this goes to show the level of education you really got. Ive driven the m1a1 and althoufh the rollers of the tank are independant the drive wheels which there is only 2 are in a fixed position. In short they dont move so the torque of the turbine engine is afixed on those drive wheels and the rollers are for suspension purposes. Now if you were to place torque on sumtin that already has alot of moving parts they are prone to failure.
@verasforzza The hmmvee is example of this they have 4 wheel independant suspension and altho they are great on the hard ball (paved roads) off road they arent very well suited to many moving parts moving up and down creates alot of binding and wear on the CV joints (constant velocity) and in time POW!! you have a undriveable vehicle that is why they are being phased and replaced with the mrap (mine resistant assault protection vehicle) Which 95 percent of platforms are solid axle.
yes indeed, i have worked with a company that makes ied resistant vehicles, they do not apply verasforzza's deluded opinions on vehicle physics. 80% of armed forces around the globe are still buying the mercedes g from the thesolaniki plant in greece. Solid axle my friend. By the way, to save you some time, this guy is just an internet troll. If he was as intelligent as he implies, he would have already created a bot to deliver his incessant youtube spam.
@verasforzza So yet again mr genious you failed to show anything. Youre physic argument hold about as much water as a fish net. So then answer me this then why is monster trucks dont have IFS or even competition rock crawlers. Why is the military moving away from idea. Because they are prone to failure. Not to mention youre travel argument is a joke ive never seen IFS have 39.8 inches of articulation as ive seen on solid axle rock buggie... hmmm. carry on simpleton. you failed again. keep trying
@verasforzza o i remember you. you commented on that mustang vs enzo vs camaro vid wow small internet. if i remember right you sed you are an amputee you have climbed Mont Everest , you own like 50 cars , you r a genius and you sed you r also a Olympic level athlete. wow looks like you still a pretty big prick on other vids to lolx.
@verasforzza How come "your" super custom, spare no expense, use only the best industry has to offer, $75,000 TLC ICON has solid axles? Even their "Baja" version uses solid axles. I'm just curious.
@BSMEPilot Gee, I don't know, perhaps because it's a modern rebuild paying homage to the original FJ40, WHICH HAS SOLID AXLES. It's built to the original FJ40 spec, but using modern components. Way to think before you put your foot in your mouth. And I don't know where you came up with $75K, but the TLC Icon's base price for the FJ40 is about $95K, and $150K for the Baja Edition.
@verasforzza Uh huh, ok. But over on that other ICON video you say: "All the parts are hand picked from other industries b/c nothing in the auto industry meets their standards for perfection"
Well if solids are, as you claim, so vastly inferior to IFS why would ICON use those in pursuit of their standards of perfection? After all, they swap the ORIGINAL Toyota engine out in favor of a GM V8 or International diesel. Geez Veras, I bet fat dumb white trash Americans built those engines.
@BSMEPilot Again, you make up words and claim that I've said them. I never said that solids are vastly inferior. I said that with modern technology, IFS + solid rear is the best option for most 4x4 applications. Unless you're only doing extreme crawling, IFS is basically better.
You still don't get it. It's about having the bust while still keeping to the original. And the motor choice is due to availability and size, and that's one of the few American made engines that is reliable, Vette also.
@verasforzza Dear Samuel, Hi my name is Andy. First and foremost as well as recently as in the last year The Fj was put against the JK Rubicon in petersens 4wheeldrive. The FJ floundered at the tests thrown at it. The only test is excelled was getting to waters edgde in sand. But every other test it failed. Please refer to May 2011 issue to confirm. In short the fj is only good for taking kids to the mall thats if they arent clausterphobic as said in article. But The rubicon beat it hands down.
@BSMEPilot They also don't make the original Toyota engine anymore DUHHH. Furthermore, that engine design goes back to 1955, a time when American cars WERE actually made extremely well. My Grandfather was VP of Chrysler back in the hay day, he ended up leaving because the corporate policy officially changed from making cars that would last a lifetime, to making cars with no life. It was (and still is) more profitable to built "disposable" cars so people must buy new ones every few years.
@verasforzza And in this pursuit of perfection why would they even consider taking on the CJ-3B? I mean Jeeps are apparently the laughing stock of the 4x4 world placing last in every major 4x4 comparison right? That dog won't hunt monsignor... Perhaps they will put IFS under it to make up for the fact that it's a Jeep. Don't tell me it's to satisfy retarded Jeep fanboys either. We're all too stupid and American to make the kind of money to afford one of those right?
@BSMEPilot THey built the CJ because Jeep owners were bitching and moaning to TLC about them only making Toyota's (Jeep owners aren't smart enough to catch on to the fact that "TLC" stands for Toyota Land Cruiser). SO Icon gave in and started fabrication on a Jeep. What's really funny is both vehicles are made to equal specs, so the only difference is the original design laid out by each manufacturer. According to the guys at ICON, the FJ's walk all over the CJ, proof of superior design.
@verasforzza There is nothing strong about an IFS when compared to a solid axle. As far as military tanks, APC's and aircraft goes, there are reasons they don't use solid axles. As a matter of fact they don't even use the IFS suspension system. So your point there was kinda moot. As far as your statement , " The very nature of a solid axle limits travel... articulation works on the same principal" I think you have it confused with the IFS limits. The Mars Rover is super fragile. BTW,I own an FJC
@GreenLabraHeeler Sorry bub, you're wrong yet again. The proof is very easy to test, just administer a g-force drop test to the vehicles, it's done all the time for Baja racing. Drop a solid axle vehicle (even a superior quality Toyota) from a height of 10m, measure g-force, then repeat at greater height intervals until you snap an axle. As long as you compare apples to apples, the results will always favor the IFS vehicle. If I was wrong then we'd see Baja Trucks running solids, I'm right...
@GreenLabraHeeler I've raced Baja, I know what it's like to smash down on your front two wheels while doing 110mph and coming down from 40 feet in the air. A solid axle simple won't handle anything close to the amount of force generated, IFS can and does very well.
Solids are a staple in 4x4ing for several reasons, strength is generally not one of them. Most 4x4guys are hicks, thus they're under or UNeducated, they don't know of new engineering improvements, and prefer not to change...
@GreenLabraHeeler Finally, if IFS was structurally inferior to solids, then why is it that ALL of the state of the art Military & Private sector vehicles operate with IS? Tanks, Humvees, APC's, The Mars Rover, search and destroy robots, even landing gear which as to withstand insane amounts of force during landing is a variation of IFS.
You wish you had my Ivy League schooling, and you wish you owned custom one-off 4x4s worth $200K, and you wish you knew what you're talking about, you don't.
@verasforzza Yeah I heard that the FA/18 was originally equipped with a solid axle but the engineers were so inspired by the Toyota FJ that they upgraded to IFS. Oh and stop claiming that you're educated. That ship has long since sailed...
@BSMEPilot Clearly you are retarded. I know that you don't have a fraction of the elite education that I have, nor do you have my highest genius IQ, but come on, at least make an effort to keep up. IS for cars/trucks, landing gear for planes/jets, and suspension for mountain bikes/motorcycles all share the same core design.
You get owned by superior intellect once again sparkle sprite. I'm positive you'll retort with a douchebag answer rather than doing some quality research on your own behalf.
@verasforzza You are rt on somethings concerning IFS but one reason for solid axles for off road use is axle articulation that factory IFS can not accomplish to the same degree. As high speed stability is not the quest nor concern the solid axle becomes a better choice for low speed boulder crawling were the center of the axle will actually lift away allowing more clearance over a given object. Obviously high speed stability where one impact does not affect other wheels is better with IFS.
@verasforzza lmfao hey Samuel remember me? Ive done some research just to humor you on youre apparent IFS set up is superior to that of solid axel. Guess what i found. That out of the 20 or so offroad Websites. Not a one hass claimed such a fable. Matter of fact they offer solid axel conversions for the FJ. But as i said i been to moab rock competitions and never seen a IFS much less a FJ even compete in such event. Ohh i know why theyre suited for mall crawling. How sillie of me. jackass
@gypman921 Of course I remember you, you're douchebag number TK421-9ZR who still thinks my name is Sam for some reason, and do to you're severe mental insecurities is STILL trolling on and on in this thread.
Good for you, you just learned how to do research, too bad I never said IFS is used in crawling competitions. It is however the only way to go when it comes to the other two forms of off roading (expedition and racing). The FJ was built to race Baja, and it wins too. Keep trying honkey.
@thybigballs Actually it was. Guys in Long Beach who race and win Baja designed it. It's raced and dominated in multiple Baja races in multiple classes.
This verasforzza idiot was destroyed on the Ferrari vs Mustang video, his address, flickr, wife's name and place of work, pictures of him got pulled up and HES STILL POSTING...

Someone who lived in the area near him said they saw a completely stock FJ sitting outside his house, which btw is a condo next to the Freeway in L.A
@verasforzza Here you go with the tank shit again, man, IFS STANDS FOR INDEPENDENT FRONT SUSPENSION, WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH A TANK? YOU FUCK. I seriously hate myself because you are so fucking stupid.
that guy is such a toyota fanatic, that he said he imported some late model into the us, which isnt even eligible for import, even if brought into compliance. caught in another lie. To which he replied, "no i said for my estate in canada" not for here, you simpleton. Im loaded rich, yadda yadda. Something to that lame effect.
@toyotapickup94 well I used to be lol. I like the FJ don't get me wrong, everyone has a car that speaks to them. Both the FJ and the Rubicon are excellent vehicles. What it comes down in at the end of the day it which vehicle suits your tastes more? And as for verasforzza and the IFS thing, give it up man, IFS is great for pre-runner/off-road crap but its got jack on the articulation of a solid axle setup when it comes to rock crawling. IFS pleases consumer reports, not off-road enthusiasts.
@Z06surfer We aren't talking about rock crawling. We're talking about 4x4ing, 95% of which gains an advantage from IFS. Crawling is the ONLY area of off roading where SAS is better. And you're dead wrong about IFS not pleasing off roaders, when it comes to 4x4'ers worldwide (not just weekend warrior fat-ass white boys in America), the world prefers IFS and Land Cruisers, not SAS and shitty Jeeps. When you've traveled as much as I have and own the long list of trucks that I do, then you can talk
@verasforzza 95% of "4x4ing" isn't high speed thrashing. 95% of off roading is slow going and technical (the world over). Both have their merits/weaknesses and if you were really as educated as you claim to be you would have approached this with an inkling of intellectual honesty. As a supposed grad student you should know the importance of proper citation. You obviously want to convince others that what you say is correct so why not provide them? I think we both know why don't we?
@BSMEPilot No, most off roading falls under "expedition" 4x4ing, not crawling. IFS is far superior for both expedition and racing forms of 4x4'n. What you don't realize in your ignorance is that I own vehicles with SAS and IFS/solid rear. I've conducted expeditions on all seven continents, you have done none of this. I own a FJ40, FJ45, FJ60, FJ70, FJ80, FJ Cruiser, TLC Icon Baja, LR Def 110, Unimog, Pinzgauer, G wagon, and more. The IFS vehicles are in many ways more capable.
@verasforzza ...what you don't realize is that SAS is being phased out, the technology for IA has come light years. If SAS was so superior, then why do the world's most expensive 4x4 vehicles all have independent suspension? The Mars rover and similar space exploration terrestrial vehicles cost billions of dollars and need to work at peak potential, they use IS. Military combat vehicles like tanks and APC's use IS.
And I didn't say I was a grad student, I'm a PhD student, know the difference.
@BSMEPilot No, PhD students are Doctoral students moron. Grad students are getting their Master's degree. Undergrads = earning Bachelors or undergrad degree. Graduates = have graduated with a Bachelor's degree and are working towards a Master's degree. ("I'm going to Grad School," refers to schooling immediately after their undergraduate studies, a Master's degree). Once you earn your graduate degree and you choose to further your education, you are then a Doctoral or PhD student. You lose.
@BSMEPilot Nope, that's not what the University definition states. It's really simple, an undergrad is working towards their Bachelor's degree. A graduate has obviously graduated, but more specifically is working towards a Master's degree. A Doctorate is working towards their PhD.
@verasforzza Furthermore, a master's degree is not a prerequisite to beginning doctoral studies. Just curious which schools did you "attend" and what degrees have you "earned"?
@BSMEPilot Name me one PhD program which doesn't require a Master's level education.
Originally I was Pre-Med at U of Washington (world's best Medical School). Here they don't require a Master's for a doctorate, but their system is different, and this only pertained to M.D. PhD's require (among many other things) a Master's degree in a related field of academics. In other words you cannot hold a Master's in Architecture, then decide you want your PhD in Geophysics.
@verasforzza It just so happens that my future brother and sister in law have both earned their PhD's in chemical engineering from Stanford. Neither one has a master's degree. My girlfriend earned her undergrad and masters in geology and her PhD in geophysics (odd that you mentioned that). Had she wanted to she could have gone straight into the PhD program Her master's and PhD are from the same University of Texas school. I never said anything about switching majors/fields of study...
@BSMEPilot THat doesn't matter, the point is, those are the definitions, don't argue with me, if you have an issue then take it up with Oxford English Dictionary and the University crediting system. Of course there's always an exception to the rule, some schools have their own path to a degree where you get to "skip" a certain portion and get straight to the marrow of your subject.
I only mentioned Geophysics because one of my aunts is a Geophysics Prof at Yale, and I just saw her on campus.
@verasforzza You said "name me one PhD program which doesn't require a Master's level education" (btw not sure why you keep capitalizing words like master's and and university). I named two such programs one of which is at your supposed alma mater. So now it doesn't matter and the new point of our conversation is that they are definitions from the Oxford English Dictionary and the "University crediting system"?

I had to sell my FJ when I moved to Europe and I really do miss the FJ :( but the good part is that I have since bought an 07 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 3.0 turbo diesel which basically is a Lexus GS470 in the states. Love it and t is one of the most reliable 4x4s I have ever owned. way to go Toyota!
pimpninja1985 7 months ago
I bought an FJ when I came home from Iraq. My buddies who own Jeeps used to talk trash calling it a mall crawler, soccer mom vehicle, etc.........Then I went wheelin' with them. The names stopped, only thing they said was that the FJ needed a solid front axle, which I agree. Other than that, the truck can be beast, given it has the right driver, just like a Jeep....Plus, Jeeps are cliche 4x4's these days.

@thelemonlite Jeeps are cliche 4x4's these days? LOL. More like an icon.
RidgeRunner88 6 months ago
@RidgeRunner88 Any Jeep made after 1986 is not an icon. More like a poser vehicle. Willy's, Ford, Kaiser, and AMC for the win.....Sorry to all you Chrysler Jeep owners, open your eyes.
thelemonlite 6 months ago
@thelemonlite Haters gonna hate.
RidgeRunner88 6 months ago
@RidgeRunner88 Hate on what? I just stated facts...Any real off road enthusiast would probably agree. Its no different then people rolling around in H2's and H3's claiming they own a Hummer, when 9 out of 10 guys would say that there is only one true Hummer...What makes Jeep different? I believe there are only certain models that make Jeep what its known for, and none of those come from the Chrysler line up. IMO.
thelemonlite 6 months ago
@thelemonlite What facts? Rubicons have Dana 44's? Lockers front AND rear? Electronically discoing sway bar? 4:10's with stock mud tires? Scoring an 882 RTI score stock?
Show me a stock production vehicle in the same price that will out wheel a stock Rubicon. They are far and few between.
There's a reason Jeep is at or near the top in every offroading/4x4/wheeling magazine.
RidgeRunner88 6 months ago
@RidgeRunner88 You quoted a brochure....Bravo!! I'll take a 70 series Land Cruiser or a CJ7...Just give it up man, your living in denial...Once Chrysler shipped Jeeps production lines overseas they lost all credibility. I like Jeeps, I just prefer the originals/American made Jeeps. The only 4x4 that comes close to being fully domestic is the Toyota Tundra. I will say this though, if the concept Jeep Renegade comes into production, I might jump on the Wrangler bandwagon.
thelemonlite 6 months ago
@thelemonlite Funny you mentioned that, the Jeep Wrangler is manufactured by American automaker Chrysler (Detroit actually, not Japanese like the Toyota) and have been (and are currently) built in Canada and the US.
Nice try though.
RidgeRunner88 6 months ago
@RidgeRunner88 I think your living in the 80's....Do some research
thelemonlite 6 months ago
@thelemonlite Nice defensive mechanisms. Denial and not answering to facts.
To put it more blatantly, the FJ Cruiser has been stacked against the Rubicon many times in many different magazines. The outcome is always the same with the Rubi on top.
RidgeRunner88 6 months ago
@RidgeRunner88 Thats fine. I'm in the military, so when it comes to wheelin' I'm more of a weekend warrior, so my FJC is a DD for me. Like I said before, I like Jeeps, but in todays world its about longevity, and Toyota has a better reputation when it comes to that and dependability. But I have never thought it was fair to run an FJC against a Rubi. Maybe a Sahara or Sport....Good debate though.
thelemonlite 6 months ago 2
@thelemonlite I have no idea what our careers/jobs have to do with anything, but I'm in law enforcement. I believe most people that wheel are "weekend warriors" such as you and I and not professional offroaders. My YJ is a dedicated offroad rig, but can also be street driven. As far as longevity/dependability regarding the FJ Cruiser, the thing has only been around for 5 years. Hardly the test of time Jeep has endured.
Nice chatting. Would love to wheel with you sometime. ;)
RidgeRunner88 6 months ago
@RidgeRunner88 The FJ (Land Cruisers) have been around since 1957 in America, and has existed in some form since 1941. They're the most traveled vehicles on earth and hold more world records & 'firsts' than all other 4x4 combined... that's a phenomenal track record, just saying.
This particular Land Cruiser has been around for a while too, Prado chassis. It's the same proven platform as the Tacoma (TLC with truck body). These things win Baja, and have driven to the North Pole, they're proven.
seventhSabra 5 months ago in playlist trucks and offroad 4
@seventhSabra The FJ Cruiser has nothing in common with the FJ40 besides its looks. It's funny you mentioned world records, a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon just beat the world record for highest altitude achieved with a vehicle. The driver beat his last world record when you used a Land Cruiser.
Yes, it uses the same suspension as a 120 series Land Cruiser from 2002. A Honda Ridgeline has won the Baja 1000 in its class; doesn't mean it's a good wheeler or proven. A great team and a lot money = win.
RidgeRunner88 5 months ago
@RidgeRunner88 Actually it does, it's a modern version of the FJ40, and as much as I love my FJ40 and FJ45, the FJC is a better vehicle (my FJ45 has 39.5" tires so adjusting for tire size of course). It doesn't just use the suspension, the chassis is the same, the engine/drivetrain are off the much proven Tacoma platform. WR for vehicle altitude isn't much considering they strip it down to a can on wheels and a fuel tank. Jeeps still can't make it up to Everest BC, or operate in the Antarctic.
seventhSabra 5 months ago 2
@seventhSabra It was a Suzuki Samuri on the climbing record btw I know that for a fact. Not a Jeep
trackstar4795 1 month ago

I hate when people try to compare jeeps to ( insert other car/truck)
They are totally different and designed for different things.
If you want a capable rig to run 2000 miles across the country in comfort and not have your girl friends ass smelling like ass when you get there. An FJ Cruiser isn't a bad choice .
Jeeps are great all around but modify it and quickly becomes a trail rig, or a death trap on the road. what ever you prefer.
Want to go threw 5' mud pits? get a full sized truck.

I think it's the CEO's of the big 3 who's the traitor. Their the one's slaving the workers yet taking a major profit (flying private jets yet begging for tax payers money), making crappy products, and always on the tail end of trends because they never listen to the consumer's instead follows the competition.
monkayest93 1 year ago
@monkayest93 The CEO's are slaving their workers? Do you honestly think that's what is wrong with the big three? The unions are sucking the life out of every aspect of these companies. I believe it was a previous GM CEO who said that when he went to work his first day he thought he was going to be the CEO of a great American car manufacturer but quickly realized he was CEO of a giant health insurance company that just happened to make cars on the side. Unions are KILLING the big three.

Im not saying it out of disrespect i know its capable just im not fond of the IFS concept they do offer a solid axel conversion tho which i found to be pretty bad ass. check it out

a-trac useage nice! and 80% of the FJ is made in japan guys where toyota is suppose to be also note the fact that toyota has shut down the california plant and a few other plants this should help any future americians from screwing up their cars im proud to be one but we cant make a car thats worth a thing
smrfnlo 1 year ago
@smrfnlo 100% of the FJ Land Cruisers are made in Japan.
And for all those idiots why say "buy a Jeep, it supports American jobs because it's make in America by Americans." How wrong you are. First of all, Toyota makes more cars in America than most American companies, the Land Cruiser is one of the few models they always make in Japan, and it shows in its impeccable quality. Most Jeeps are being made in Canada and Mexico, the ones made in the US are built by cheap illegal immigrant labor.

Tho she doesnt drive it much we always jump in the XJ dont have to worry about scratching the paint on it....lol so she mainly used the Rubi to go to work and school and i use the FJ to and from post
gypman921 1 year ago
but alot of off road mags liked it but had alot of dilikes if anyone is looking for a dependable suv to commute and road trips the FJ is nice the back seat and access to back seat sucks trying yo close rear door isnt for the weak other than that great road trip car for couples me and my wife love it but i wouldnt go to far off pavement. i took mine off road one day and my CV shafts in front blew aprt along with gear box and that was a small mud hole. almost 3000 later it was back on the road

there is a difference between being made in America, and being assembled in America. most of the parts come from Japan.

@usaairforce1 The name of the trail is rubicon. Oh and the recall isnt on the fj idiot. Go to toyota's website and jeep's website and compare the wrangler and FJ the FJ comes out on top.
toyotapickup94 1 year ago
unfortunately The FJ does come out on top right at top of mall crawlers.

Try taking a 20ft jump at 110mph on a solid front...fail.

gypman921 1 year ago
@gypman921 Wrong again grunt. There you go with the jealousy again. Once you have a few degrees, it's easy to get more since you've taken the core classes, and it's not as if I'm getting a 4-year undergrad degree every time (even if I was, I did my 5-year undergrad in 3 years). Master's programs are 2 years. I get a lot done - I don't watch TV (AT ALL). I grew up without TV. I started reading my Dad's microsurgery books at age 4. Part of being a genius is doing things faster than normal people.

Blakspire 1 year ago
@verasforzza Not to mention jack ass look up FJ breaken right here on youtube you will see IFS on drive wheels suck balls. Theyre weak For serious wheeling solids are stronger reliable and require little maintenance. Every 4x4 mag will tell you that IFS is not for a serious wheeler. Great for mall crawlin tho. Youre pathetic argument has zero basis ive seen IFS fail on Yotas fords and GMs which are all great cars in there own respect so try again.
gypman921 1 year ago
@gypman921 Wrong again. Where's your degree in physics? Where's your degree in Architectural Engineering? Oh, you don't have any such education, well I do. When it come to the amount of force that can be exerted on a component, IFS is many time more strong than a solid front axle. Sure, anything can break, I can show you tons of videos where a solid axle barely bumps a rock and the thing breaks. There's also a lot of other things that can cause a malfunction, it's not IFS fault.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza lmao i do have a degree in engineering...shame isnt it as well as field work both in Army as well as civilian. ive been working on trucks for 16 years and i do have my license. imagine that as well as countless articles saying IFS is great for on road comfort. but yet you never see a serious rock crawler with it hmmm. oh thats right cuz they are weak prone to break at the CV shafts and the steering knuckle. You really are a jackass Try again
gypman921 1 year ago 2
@verasforzza Why is the hmmvee being phased out of military? Because its the IFS shaft not protected such as in a solid not to mention the angles of the shafts although great for on road off road they are prone to failure. Seen it happen to many times so they are being replaced with the MRAP which comes in various applications but every one of them has a locked minimum 3 ton solid axel bothe forward and aft. Go do some research man you open youre mouth and all that come forth is useless banter
gypman921 1 year ago
@verasforzza
GreenLabraHeeler 1 year ago 20
@GreenLabraHeeler Agreed, I don't have a degree, but i have seen what does and does not work. Light wheeling is fine for IFS, but travel, articulation and strength all go to solid axle. This isn't even an argument, just an idiot.
Blakspire 1 year ago
@Blakspire There's a little something called PHYSICS that proves otherwise. IFS can withstand many time more force than a solid axle, why do you think Baja trucks, military tanks, APC's and even aircraft suspension is all variants of IFS. Travel, nope, you're wrong again. The very nature of a solid axle limits travel... articulation works on the same principal. If solids were the best, they'd be used on billion dollar off road vehicles like Mars Rovers, but they aren't.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Where did you get your degree? My guess is the mail. Since when do lateral forces across the forged steel and sheet metal hangers of the FJ, equal the strength and reliability of a dana 44? They don't. When properly engineered, (Lets say OshKosh's new M-ATV, and for a stretch the Hummer H1) IFS can have advantages, like lets say saving weight, or handling better at high speeds. Take a look at Payloaders, Hundreds of thousands of dollars, what do they use? Solid axle.
Blakspire 1 year ago
@verasforzza How in the hell is a tank a variant of IFS? HANDLING HANDLING HANDLING. That is all IFS has. CV joints from the factory are known to be weak, along with the rack and pinion steering that usually comes with it. I dont care how much you wheel, where you have done it, or how many POS imported luxury 4x4's you have. I will take my Rubicon on 35's ANYWHERE you take them. I live in Kodiak, Alaska... Come up, i'll even pay for your hotel room.
Blakspire 1 year ago
@Blakspire IFS has survived both poles, Mt Everest, the Gobi, the Sahara, Baja 1000, Taupo 1000, Alaska (there's harsher places than Kodiak), all of Australia (one of the main testing grounds for Toyota Land Cruisers), Moab, Rubicon trail, all of Africa, the Mid East, and everywhere else.
No, you won't take your POS Rubicon with 35's anywhere I take my TLCs. Jeeps don't work in Antarctica, they can't reach Everest Base camp and you might survive Baja, but you'll be 20hrs behind a TLC.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Firstly, Using Rubicon trail as an example of harsh terrain is about as intelligent as your IFS argument. THE FUCKING JEEP IS DESIGNED FOR THE RUBICON TRAIL. Dude, you can say all you want about IFS, the FACT is that Offroad enthusiasts prefer solid axle, it is more durable and reliable, hands down. You cannot argue this fact. IFS is not worthless, Its good in high speed high frequency trails. Thats about it. You ignorant mail order education fuck.
Blakspire 1 year ago
@verasforzza And yes, i will take my Rubicon everywhere that TLC goes. I'd take my mother's Cadillac where your TLC goes/
Blakspire 1 year ago
@verasforzza lol again my dear boy this goes to show the level of education you really got. Ive driven the m1a1 and althoufh the rollers of the tank are independant the drive wheels which there is only 2 are in a fixed position. In short they dont move so the torque of the turbine engine is afixed on those drive wheels and the rollers are for suspension purposes. Now if you were to place torque on sumtin that already has alot of moving parts they are prone to failure.
gypman921 1 year ago
@verasforzza The hmmvee is example of this they have 4 wheel independant suspension and altho they are great on the hard ball (paved roads) off road they arent very well suited to many moving parts moving up and down creates alot of binding and wear on the CV joints (constant velocity) and in time POW!! you have a undriveable vehicle that is why they are being phased and replaced with the mrap (mine resistant assault protection vehicle) Which 95 percent of platforms are solid axle.
gypman921 1 year ago
@gypman921
yes indeed, i have worked with a company that makes ied resistant vehicles, they do not apply verasforzza's deluded opinions on vehicle physics.

Not to mention youre travel argument is a joke ive never seen IFS have 39.8 inches of articulation as ive seen on solid axle rock buggie... hmmm. carry on simpleton. you failed again. keep trying

@verasforzza How come "your" super custom, spare no expense, use only the best industry has to offer, $75,000 TLC ICON has solid axles? Even their "Baja" version uses solid axles. I'm just curious.
BSMEPilot 1 year ago
@BSMEPilot Gee, I don't know, perhaps because it's a modern rebuild paying homage to the original FJ40, WHICH HAS SOLID AXLES. It's built to the original FJ40 spec, but using modern components. Way to think before you put your foot in your mouth. And I don't know where you came up with $75K, but the TLC Icon's base price for the FJ40 is about $95K, and $150K for the Baja Edition.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Uh huh, ok. But over on that other ICON video you say: "All the parts are hand picked from other industries b/c nothing in the auto industry meets their standards for perfection"
Well if solids are, as you claim, so vastly inferior to IFS why would ICON use those in pursuit of their standards of perfection? After all, they swap the ORIGINAL Toyota engine out in favor of a GM V8 or International diesel. Geez Veras, I bet fat dumb white trash Americans built those engines.
BSMEPilot 1 year ago
@BSMEPilot Again, you make up words and claim that I've said them. I never said that solids are vastly inferior. I said that with modern technology, IFS + solid rear is the best option for most 4x4 applications. Unless you're only doing extreme crawling, IFS is basically better.
You still don't get it. It's about having the bust while still keeping to the original. And the motor choice is due to availability and size, and that's one of the few American made engines that is reliable, Vette also.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Dear Samuel, Hi my name is Andy. First and foremost as well as recently as in the last year The Fj was put against the JK Rubicon in petersens 4wheeldrive. The FJ floundered at the tests thrown at it. The only test is excelled was getting to waters edgde in sand. But every other test it failed. Please refer to May 2011 issue to confirm. In short the fj is only good for taking kids to the mall thats if they arent clausterphobic as said in article. But The rubicon beat it hands down.
TheGypman921 7 months ago
@BSMEPilot They also don't make the original Toyota engine anymore DUHHH. Furthermore, that engine design goes back to 1955, a time when American cars WERE actually made extremely well. My Grandfather was VP of Chrysler back in the hay day, he ended up leaving because the corporate policy officially changed from making cars that would last a lifetime, to making cars with no life. It was (and still is) more profitable to built "disposable" cars so people must buy new ones every few years.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza And in this pursuit of perfection why would they even consider taking on the CJ-3B? I mean Jeeps are apparently the laughing stock of the 4x4 world placing last in every major 4x4 comparison right? That dog won't hunt monsignor... Perhaps they will put IFS under it to make up for the fact that it's a Jeep. Don't tell me it's to satisfy retarded Jeep fanboys either. We're all too stupid and American to make the kind of money to afford one of those right?
BSMEPilot 1 year ago
@BSMEPilot THey built the CJ because Jeep owners were bitching and moaning to TLC about them only making Toyota's (Jeep owners aren't smart enough to catch on to the fact that "TLC" stands for Toyota Land Cruiser). SO Icon gave in and started fabrication on a Jeep. What's really funny is both vehicles are made to equal specs, so the only difference is the original design laid out by each manufacturer. According to the guys at ICON, the FJ's walk all over the CJ, proof of superior design.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza There is nothing strong about an IFS when compared to a solid axle. As far as military tanks, APC's and aircraft goes, there are reasons they don't use solid axles. As a matter of fact they don't even use the IFS suspension system. So your point there was kinda moot. As far as your statement , " The very nature of a solid axle limits travel... articulation works on the same principal" I think you have it confused with the IFS limits. The Mars Rover is super fragile. BTW,I own an FJC
thybigballs 1 year ago
@GreenLabraHeeler Sorry bub, you're wrong yet again. The proof is very easy to test, just administer a g-force drop test to the vehicles, it's done all the time for Baja racing. Drop a solid axle vehicle (even a superior quality Toyota) from a height of 10m, measure g-force, then repeat at greater height intervals until you snap an axle. As long as you compare apples to apples, the results will always favor the IFS vehicle. If I was wrong then we'd see Baja Trucks running solids, I'm right...
verasforzza 1 year ago
@GreenLabraHeeler I've raced Baja, I know what it's like to smash down on your front two wheels while doing 110mph and coming down from 40 feet in the air. A solid axle simple won't handle anything close to the amount of force generated, IFS can and does very well.
Solids are a staple in 4x4ing for several reasons, strength is generally not one of them. Most 4x4guys are hicks, thus they're under or UNeducated, they don't know of new engineering improvements, and prefer not to change...
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Your hick comment proves how much of an ignoramous you are, I don't care how much schooling you've had.
jeepownsrover 1 year ago 2
@GreenLabraHeeler Finally, if IFS was structurally inferior to solids, then why is it that ALL of the state of the art Military & Private sector vehicles operate with IS? Tanks, Humvees, APC's, The Mars Rover, search and destroy robots, even landing gear which as to withstand insane amounts of force during landing is a variation of IFS.
You wish you had my Ivy League schooling, and you wish you owned custom one-off 4x4s worth $200K, and you wish you knew what you're talking about, you don't.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Yeah I heard that the FA/18 was originally equipped with a solid axle but the engineers were so inspired by the Toyota FJ that they upgraded to IFS. Oh and stop claiming that you're educated. That ship has long since sailed...
BSMEPilot 1 year ago 6
@BSMEPilot Clearly you are retarded. I know that you don't have a fraction of the elite education that I have, nor do you have my highest genius IQ, but come on, at least make an effort to keep up. IS for cars/trucks, landing gear for planes/jets, and suspension for mountain bikes/motorcycles all share the same core design.
You get owned by superior intellect once again sparkle sprite. I'm positive you'll retort with a douchebag answer rather than doing some quality research on your own behalf.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza You are rt on somethings concerning IFS but one reason for solid axles for off road use is axle articulation that factory IFS can not accomplish to the same degree. As high speed stability is not the quest nor concern the solid axle becomes a better choice for low speed boulder crawling were the center of the axle will actually lift away allowing more clearance over a given object. Obviously high speed stability where one impact does not affect other wheels is better with IFS.
nimlil 1 year ago
@verasforzza lmfao hey Samuel remember me? Ive done some research just to humor you on youre apparent IFS set up is superior to that of solid axel. Guess what i found. That out of the 20 or so offroad Websites. Not a one hass claimed such a fable. Matter of fact they offer solid axel conversions for the FJ. toyotapickup94 1 year ago
Z06surfer 1 year ago
@Z06surfer We aren't talking about rock crawling. We're talking about 4x4ing, 95% of which gains an advantage from IFS. Crawling is the ONLY area of off roading where SAS is better. And you're dead wrong about IFS not pleasing off roaders, when it comes to 4x4'ers worldwide (not just weekend warrior fat-ass white boys in America), the world prefers IFS and Land Cruisers, not SAS and shitty Jeeps. When you've traveled as much as I have and own the long list of trucks that I do, then you can talk
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza 95% of "4x4ing" isn't high speed thrashing. 95% of off roading is slow going and technical (the world over). Both have their merits/weaknesses and if you were really as educated as you claim to be you would have approached this with an inkling of intellectual honesty. As a supposed grad student you should know the importance of proper citation. You obviously want to convince others that what you say is correct so why not provide them? I think we both know why don't we?
BSMEPilot 1 year ago 3
@BSMEPilot No, most off roading falls under "expedition" 4x4ing, not crawling. IFS is far superior for both expedition and racing forms of 4x4'n. What you don't realize in your ignorance is that I own vehicles with SAS and IFS/solid rear. I've conducted expeditions on all seven continents, you have done none of this. I own a FJ40, FJ45, FJ60, FJ70, FJ80, FJ Cruiser, TLC Icon Baja, LR Def 110, Unimog, Pinzgauer, G wagon, and more. The IFS vehicles are in many ways more capable.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza ...what you don't realize is that SAS is being phased out, the technology for IA has come light years. If SAS was so superior, then why do the world's most expensive 4x4 vehicles all have independent suspension? The Mars rover and similar space exploration terrestrial vehicles cost billions of dollars and need to work at peak potential, they use IS. Military combat vehicles like tanks and APC's use IS.
And I didn't say I was a grad student, I'm a PhD student, know the difference.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza PhD students are graduate students boy genius. Thanks for confirming what I already knew about you.
BSMEPilot 1 year ago
@BSMEPilot No, PhD students are Doctoral students moron. Grad students are getting their Master's degree. Undergrads = earning Bachelors or undergrad degree. Graduates = have graduated with a Bachelor's degree and are working towards a Master's degree. ("I'm going to Grad School," refers to schooling immediately after their undergraduate studies, a Master's degree). Once you earn your graduate degree and you choose to further your education, you are then a Doctoral or PhD student. You lose.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Undergrad refers to those who have not completed a bachelor's degree and graduate refers to those who have be it master's or doctoral.
BSMEPilot 1 year ago
@BSMEPilot Nope, that's not what the University definition states. It's really simple, an undergrad is working towards their Bachelor's degree. A graduate has obviously graduated, but more specifically is working towards a Master's degree. A Doctorate is working towards their PhD.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Furthermore, a master's degree is not a prerequisite to beginning doctoral studies. Just curious which schools did you "attend" and what degrees have you "earned"?
BSMEPilot 1 year ago
@BSMEPilot Name me one PhD program which doesn't require a Master's level education.
Originally I was Pre-Med at U of Washington (world's best Medical School). Here they don't require a Master's for a doctorate, but their system is different, and this only pertained to M.D. PhD's require (among many other things) a Master's degree in a related field of academics. In other words you cannot hold a Master's in Architecture, then decide you want your PhD in Geophysics.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza It just so happens that my future brother and sister in law have both earned their PhD's in chemical engineering from Stanford. Neither one has a master's degree. My girlfriend earned her undergrad and masters in geology and her PhD in geophysics (odd that you mentioned that). Had she wanted to she could have gone straight into the PhD program Her master's and PhD are from the same University of Texas school. I never said anything about switching majors/fields of study...
BSMEPilot 1 year ago
