  • Mameha's voice is so beautiful!

  • "always by accident, of course." lol :)

  • I just realized that when Mameha said "I see water in you... Water is powerful. It can wash away earth, put out fire, and even destroy iron," it was foreshadowing the rest of the movie. Pumpkin is earth, Hatsumomo is fire, and I think Nobu is iron.

  • at 46 you can see her real eyes moving behind the contacts hahahaa

  • @TheSasha254 lol and you spelled noticed wrong too. ^_^

  • @iiiyanzki ok then....

  • she so mean, i love it

  • @TheSasha254 perhaps you should google the word memoirs

  • I wish I had a big sister like Mameha, she's the perfect older sister!

  • @TheSasha254 you're an idiot.

  • I love Mameha. <3

  • @TheSasha254 Its not "memories" its "MEMOIRS" look at the book title if you want. Its spelled correctly.

  • Mameha-san<3 ...

  • Mameha is portrayed alot nicer in the movie than in the book :) she's more older-sister-like here

  • in the book she got pregnant for him and had to get rid of the baby >>agian

  • gong li (hatsumomo) michelle yeoh (mameha) and zyghy zhang (chiyo-sayuri) chinese actresses playing japanese geisha, better than actual ones.

  • gong li (hatsumomo) michele yeoh (mameha) and zyghy zhang (chiyo-sayuri) chinese actresses playing japanese geisha, better than actual ones.

  • The cast is magnificent. Cant ask for anyone else :)

  • They're all so tall and elegant!!

  • the one who smacked pumpkin makes me want to take her out to the streets and give her some blood to reden those pretty lips of hers :)

  • wow the way hatsumomo closes the door!

  • Michelle Yeoh looks sooo beautiful as Mameha!!!!! Love her soooo much!!!

  • I thought that Mother was way uglier than that. XD I was expecting a sort of a monster or defigured woman. Can't wait to see Nobu-san... if he's here.

  • what i dont understand is, if they painted their faces so white, what did they do to keep their teeth from looking yellow?

  • @FlapJack211 They literally put charcoal on their teeth to make their teeth 'blend in' to their mouth so you couldn't notice them that much. However, as I've been reading about them, they only really did this during the most important part of their career - when they're meiko.

  • its out of order nd missing parts

  • @TheeAwesomeeAussiee3 It's not out of order. Make sure you're watching the ones from "ronniemonnie" for the right order. And if you can't find parts, maybe they have been banned in your country.

  • I sometimes wish there were men who were interested in my wrist

and not my boobs or butt - hmm... I love this movie though, so sad

yet comforting that no matter what you've gone through you can be

    whatever you want to be.

  • pumpkin isnt really pretty to me at all :/

  • the art of seduction! haha.. way to go, Mameha! ;)))

  • not like a horse hehehehe

  • 1:46 the girl there looks like someone from another movie i saw!! Kyaa!!! xD

  • The actress who played Hatsumomo was 40 in this movie, she looks like 25 or something.

  • @1282louise 40?! no way! O.O

  • Despite her having beautiful eyes, even if they were brown, she'd still be TEEEEENNNN TIMMMES MORE BEAUTIFUL than pumpkin and Hatsumomo.

  • the way hatsumomo looks at Chiyo is soooo scary

  • mothers voice is horrible from smocking all the time..how can she stand that?

  • did anyone notice tht they ddnt shave their eyebrows and blacken their teeth

  • @GothickaAngel1992 Shaving eyebrows and blackening teeth were long out of fashion at the time Sayuri's story takes place.

  • @Elslein ty got time period mixed up with another book

  • I LOVE MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!! i LOVE ALL OF THE WOMEN I WISH THEY WERE ALL MY BEST FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im going o upload the book for anyone who cares to look

  • Hatsumomo and Pumpkin look like the ugly sisters at the door XD

  • I love Mameha's voice

  • Is it just me, or does Mameha say "Yes?" too soon? I would have thought there would be more of a pause there.

  • Mameha must be one of the most beautiful and elegant women to ever grace the silver screen.

  • Mameha sounds like Teresa from Fable

  • Mameha is sooooo pretty

  • the only problem i have with Mameha in this movie (and trust me, I LOVE everything else about her in this movie, they chose the BEST actress for the role) is that she doesn't wear elaborate kimono and she doesnt have very intricate hairstyles. I know she's older than an apprentice, but she's still the same age as Hatsumomo, who wears make-up and pretty kimono.

That's literally the only qualm I have....

    I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

  • @Harusha12 well, maybe dats because of their characters. Mameha accepts her status, age, etc with grace and elegance whereas Hatsumomo is desperately clinging on to her past, so she (Hatsumomo) still wears the elaborate attire like a younger geisha.

  • Hatsumomo wears elaborate attire because she doesn't like to show her age. She is desperate in wanting to hold on to her youthful appearance and is afraid that wearing mature geiko attire even if it's elegant would reveal that she's getting old. Whereas, Mameha accepts her age and staus with grace. Even that shows how elegant and mature she is.

  • @ladyfire44 of course...for the story...but Gong Li looks younger than she really is and she is so pretty and in real life she looks a lot younger than the actress who plays Mameha.

  • Hatsumomo is crueler and more frightening when she is described in the book. It feels like the movie has made many of the characters seem much nicer. Especially Mother and Grandmother who don't show as often.

  • mameha's voice is so gentle and raspy. very intoxicating indeed.

  • why does Mameha look so old? isn't she supposed to be 3 years younger than Hatsumomo?

  • @spandexninja no idea, but she is still very beautiful :)

  • i love mameha (idk how to spell it srry) shes looks so calm elegant beautiful composed intelligent and confident

  • mothers voice sounds like a squeaking door XDXDXD

  • @KiyuROCKS hahahaha you said it !! I love mother

  • @KiyuROCKS it fuckin irriates me !!!

  • i really wish there were captions, i can't understand 90% of what they're saying. i even have the script from the movie open in a tab.

  • Waaah! Hatsumomo's so cruel... Dx

  • you may apologize if you wish..

    *BOWWW*

  • There are so many beautiful Japanese actresses that could have taken these roles, I do not understand why they didn't use them.

  • @nikolelily Yeah mee too almost of the actresses are chiness O.o

  • Chiyo has such a cute voice! :D

  • I love how Mameha makes subtle jokes when teaching Chiyo rise and bow, aaah so beautiful

  • Mameha is so beautiful :)

  • Mameha is just so....breathtakingly gorgeous =)

  • Mameha is supposed to be younger than Hatsumomo it says so in the book.

  • 6:46 I found this story funny as hell. May be because I was watching youporn all afternoon is the reason why I thought it was funny as hell.

  • ... When i read the book i imagined Mameha to be.... younger and more beautiful...

  • @iiChocolatee Actually, in my opinion, Mameha is very beautiful for her age. I don't remember it being stated in the book that she was supposed to be young, so I think she's very pretty. But that's just my opinion :)

  • waw the yreally rushed the stuff in the movie =s Mameha walking Chiyo and making her known, and then her dancing, and at about 45% of the book, meeting the Baron... It's all so rushed! Still a great movie though =) MUST HAVE on dvd xD

    thx for uploading these, ronniemonnie!

  • yea so true. Those days some wrist skin turned them on, these days you need two melons leaking out.

  • @dongtian00 omg haha, your comment is hilarious! thumbs up!

  • if only a lil glimpse of a the wrist was all men needed nowadays....but reality is they want us to LET IT ALL HANG OUT!

  • Hatsumomo was straight up jealous of Chiyo.....wow..jealousy I guess will never disappear from this earth!

  • Geisha's are like modern-day celebrities and performers.

Most of them get lots of money, they perform plays and musical numbers, they're highly educated, and are looked up to in society... they are not all prostitutes. That's just a stereotype!

  • what do they mean when they say they see water in her?

  • @lovemykaila like a personality trait such, water meaning open minded free spirit gentle like . where satsu was described as wood. mean, cold, hard to get through to

  • Asians have the prettiest skin ever!

  • Mameha is so graceful and I love the sound of her voice, it's so silky.

  • Geisha were not prostitues people. 'Gei' means art and 'sha' means person. They are literally artists. Geisha practised the art of dance, and became experts of shamisen (Japanese guitar) and tsutsumi (Japanese drum). They entertained wealthy men with these skills. Sex was usually preserved for a Geisha's danna, who was their patron. He paid for his Geisha's living expenses. Geisha did not sell their bodies, they sold their talents to entertain powerful men.

  • I think the actress who plays Mameha is beautiful, but not who I imagined. In the book her face is described as oval, and China Doll-esque.

  • Wow, the art of sex. A tad creepy, but that was thier world.

  • @Disneyballerina Geisha were well known for the art of dance and classical music. Sex was a bonus for their danna (a man who sponsors the Geisha and pays for her expenses) or for incredibly wealthy, powerful men. Sex was not a huge focus for Geisha, instead they focused on dance and music. Gei means art, sha means person. They are literally artists.

  • mameha is the prettiest if them all... and her voice.. i just love it

  • @Serillianify

Really? I saw the movie first and understood it perfectly. In fact it made me want to read the book!

  • That Bitch If Hatsumomo,...

  • Glimpse of the wrist is a reward.... okay then.

  • @MyPaperBleedsInk Women were supposed to be demure and never suggestive. In that kind of society, however, a Geisha was allowed to be suggestive, or else a woman would be reprimanded for displaying her wrist. In a world that isn't unlike the restrictions Muslim women have places on them with the revelation of flesh and body parts (which is why the women wear several layers, and the kimono reaches from neck to toes), seeing a naked wrist was like showing your ankles in the 1700's here in the US.

  • What is a danna?

  • @JParkLMC a danna is kind of like a benefactor. he pays for the geisha's food, clothes, lodging. in return she is his mistress.

  • @JParkLMC A danna is a sponsor. It is someone who will repeatedly hire the same Geisha and support her business.

  • Still, I hate how Chiyo and Pumpkin's friendship got destroyed by that rivalry thing. For Chiyo, I guess it must have felt like losing a sister.

  • Also, everyone love Mameha. Nice !

She's a great, beautiful and admirable woman. I was glad when she made Chiyo her little sister.

  • OMG. Hatsumomo was hot in the beginning of this movie, but when she walked in with that cigarette in her had, OMG, she just got even more HOTTER. :O

  • can someone pls tell me how to differentiate between chinese japanese and korean

    i mean NO offense pls

  • @aemensabber LMAO. I think it's impossible. No racist. XD

  • @banzai23Q by what i have observed is that koreans have slightly broader facial features then the rest of them

i dont if i am right. but only Asians can know well

just like we south asians can differentiate between ourselves but others find it hard to. and just like it difficult to differentiate between westeners etc

  • @aemensabber actually, speaking of south asians. idk if it applies to other asians, but it's VERY easy to identify Filipinoes. Idk if other asians can distinguish that too, but imo, I think Filipinoes are the only asians easy enough to distinguish.

  • @aemensabber lol i am not talking about south east asia

i am talking about south asia where Pakistan India Bengladesh etc are :)

  • why that is a perfect bow.... for a pig farmer. hahahahaha

  • Hatsumomo is like angrily beautiful

  • the story is so beautiful and captivating, but i hate the fact that chiyo is approximately 30 years younger than chairman,

  • @anijaawancha

It happens... I do not judge people (and Chiyo deserved to be happy with someone who really loved her and someone she loved too). Love is love as they say.

And yes, the story is beautiful.

  • "Rise." *rises* "...not like a horse" lolol

  • Lmao I do too;)))

  • i thought the term was "danna" thats what it said in the book

  • I LOVE MAMEHA.... SHES AWESOME :) but what the fuck... if you''ve read the book that was certainly not the bet..... it was a bit different.

  • @shootinggreenstars3 ok lol so im not crazy i knew the bet was different i have both books the movie one and the origianl and the bet was different than the movie

  • when i saw Hatsumomo do that to pumkin i was like. BITCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • @koolerxx2 haha

  • @koolerxx2 me too

  • it's really good, but the girl who plays Chiyo/Sayuri looks Chinese.

  • @jmaheroux that's because she is Chinese that's Zhang Ziyi

  • @jmaheroux is there a difference, really i cant tell the difference. BUt SHes very pretty!. infact I love asian people!

  • Oooo...6:35 - my FAV song begins! :D

  • goodness, this film is SO full of western crap! A great shame that those wonderful, talented actors had to act to a script which bore so little resemblance to the realities of geisha. They had to be trained from very little girls :) this is just a cindarella story set in "exotic" realities ;) but yes, they ARE cute :)

  • goodness, this film is SO full of western crap! A great shame that those wonderful, talented actors had to act to a script which bore so little resemblance to the realities of geisha. They had to be trained from very little girls :)

  • They probably have a hard time finding people for these roles.

  • When i found out that most of the cast was chinese, I went into shock! lol i've never heard a japanese or chinese person talk and since the movie is about geishas i assumed that most of the cast was chinese XD

  • favorite part for me >.<

  • The girl who plays sayuri's accent sounds chinese

  • @rachee9906 Thats because Ziyi Zhang who plays Sayuri (from the age of 15 up in the film) is actually Chinese. :D

  • @ethiogrl21 you are so right!!

  • Mamehas House Is Awesome! :D

  • I don't think they depicted Mameha right, maybe I just pictured her so differently, she's sweet, but has a little attitude because she needs to be in control and she's younger, she has a silly girlish mentality, here she seems old and not what I pictured.....

  • @MsCelticwonder i know what you mean; but, in the books at least, i always felt that although she acted a bit silly and had something of an attitude, that was just her acting more girlishly geisha-like...that is, she was still always elegant and strong underneath. i think they just brought out her maturity to make her more of an "okaasan" to sayuri

  • @MsCelticwonder Kind of the same here. Mameha and Hatsumomo were both supposed to be in their early/mid '20s.

  • @MsCelticwonder She was silly and girlish in the book? I've read the book 7 or 8 times now, and I never thought her character was frivolous. Elegant, graceful, talented, and resigned to her fate in life, yes. But silly, definitely not. The only time she seemed to show her personal feelings at all was when the Baron bid for Sayuri's mizuage, otherwise she was a complete paragon of proper manners and decorum.

  • whats with the tea being passed? i know it represents the deal, but its tea. someone take it!

  • @turnipz3 Well, in China, iron does count as an element (sorta). I guess it might be the same for Japanese culture?

  • Christ, more like 'Cuntsumomo'.

  • @thesuckpuppet18 omg i fucking love youu LOLL

  • @thesuckpuppet18 omg haha!

  • mameha is so wonderful. she's the perfect geisha, her character and her beauty are gorgeous *_* and i fell in love with her voice. michelle yeoh <3

  • The actress who played Okaasan was brilliant-- her voice when she said ''what'' was so epic.

  • I feel so bad for Pumpkin ;o;

  • the actresses who play mamaha and chiyo were both in crouchin tiger hidden dragin=]

  • I love the subtle back and forth conversation between Mother and Mameha. The way they pass the tea cup back and forth calls to mind a tennis match or something. I love it!

  • by saying "she has water in her." mameha is referring to a japanese sort of description of spirit. earch, fire, water...it's roughly like zodiac signs for americans. chiyo has water, and it shows in her eyes.

  • hatsumomo may be evil but she is definitely pretty

  • can someone please explain what mameha means by chiyo has water in her?

  • @cherbear1001 shes referring to her unique eye color, most women dont have that color

  • @cherbear1001

Actually it refers to Astrology. Where the element water would refer to a certain year and celestial position that Chiyo was born under. Water would mean a personality where she is flexible and meanders through the other elements to reach a goal.

  • mameha is so elegant...^^

  • In the book her eyes were gray.

  • so Chiyo's eyes are green????? :0)

  • @cuteangelbaby22 no darlin, they're blue , dats why they say shes like water :P

  • @davidmilan7 water can be green

  • Auntie is so cute too, you could tell that she really wanted Chiyo to succeed

  • poor Pumpkin =(

  • those are some beautiful geishas

  • Does anyone else think that this movie has one of the most beautiful cast ever? I mean...seriously, Chiyo, Hatsumomo, and Mameha are soo crazy pretty!

  • @orgoik That's exactly what I was thinking. This movie unites all the beautiful Asian women in one, just Katie Leung, Fann Wong and Alice Zhang Hung are missing^^

  • @orgoik i know right i think hasrumomo is beautiful xD

  • @orgoik They had to be beautiful to fit the role. But yes I agree. In the book Chiyo described Mameha and Hatsumomo as the most beautiful women she had ever seen.

  • @orgoik Absolutely right !

  • @orgoik most definitely!! They are absolutely gorgeous. Mameha in a subtle beauty and hatsumomo in a wild hotness. @ .@
