Hope it had a nice soft landing..Either way that sucks. I'm learning to fly my little Air hog Helicopter.. I've crashed it a time or two but it doesn't hurt it.. It's my first go at flying RC..so I am having some fun with it :)
soooo sad! i just crashed my 450heli earlier today..maybe 100euro damage - but this ... was a completly new car! poor guy. i always hate when this happens! this moment you realize the unevitable. i dont get the rest of the comments - cant be modelpilots but jerks! haha, where is the fireball? up your ass i hope!!
am i the only one that thinks that ppl should fly RC planes with a few cameras on it... together with the proper controls (stick, throttle, rudder) and indicators (horizon, airspeed, altitude, etc)?
esp when landing. u cant approach a little further away when u have to eyeball your plane from the ground.
im sure the number of accidents will take a sharp dive if everyone does it.
Dude look up FPV r/c flight. It's getting popular for people to use a camera in the cockpit, expensive but cool. There are some awesome vids of people chasing cars and trains and stuff man. check it out!
I'm no expert, but it looked as if he was in too steep of a bank for the airspeed he was carrying, and the plane simply stalled. He was able to pull out of the dive a bit towards the end, but was unable to apply power in time to save it.
"crashed hard" exaggeration much -_- That plane proberly wasn't even badly damaged, defo savageable i know that for a fact. Most rc jet crashes end in a fireball...
Nodi, nose over dive in. Looked like a stall. Same thing happened to the Globe Master in Alaska. Looks like it's flying but, its not. It also looked like there was enough altitude to recover but there was a secondary stall after too much elevator. I have done this more than once. ;)
The plane loses control due to an over banked left turn at low speed causing a rollover with a loss of lift on the port wing. Classic pilot error on an approach especially in Naval Aviation. You must keep speed up in approach turns as steeper banks cause an increased stall speed. But hey, what do I know?
Oh well. I hope it was repairable. These toys are fun but expensive. I do get a kick out of RC guys talking 'scale' all the time, when these models weigh less than one seat cushion that the real pilot sits on.
Having scale size and shape, but balsa wood/composite weight makes the models very forgiving, and you can get away with a lot, but a tip stall like this is so common for large/light models.
Just remember - No rudder for turns when landing! In real planes, you don't get a 2nd chance.
Like 99% of videos on Youtube, the video stops when the event happens. You video is called "Giant RC DC-10 Turbine Powered Crashes Hard". Yet there is only 2 seconds of a crash. And more than 2 minutes of non-crashing "action". Why not show us the reaction of the owner, the aftermath, the disappointment. We don't want to see it crash and instantly end.
@PilotoMAF No, the stall speed DECREASES with INCREASED bank angle, now as a comment made by someone with "Pilot" in their username, i'm disappointed.
You may have a pilot's licence, but you have no maturity, manners or basic courtesy. Go away , and when your acne has cleared up and you have learned how to communicate with adults, not just your ignorant, pimply teenage friends, come back and show us what you know. At the moment that is ZILCH.
@DiamondPilotDan my 2 cents. i actually believe you recently got your ppl. i got mine 20 years ago, and solo'd 4 months after my 16th birthday, and had 1,500 hrs and twin turbo prop rated by the time i was out of high school. so it is not uncommon. just takes parents with cash.
@b101aa2 plan it? You'll solo when your instructor thinks you're ready. Just plan it? I don't get that advice at all. Be prepared, know as much as you can know, get used to flying the pattern, cuz thats what it will be like. When you're doing everything and 5 steps ahead of what needs to happen, then you'll be ready. Trying to shoot for a target and plan for a day is probably the last thing you need to do.
@DiamondPilotDan it's no different than flying with your instructor. My solo (15 yrs ago) was pretty boring, and just a stepping stone to where I wanted to be. I guess it was kind of fun to have that feeling of independence, but it was just another day at the airport.
Hmm high AoB perhaps? Lead to a wing drop so apply opposite rudder to counter! or do they not have rudders? could see the recovery but i guess when the wings were almost level the a/c had stalled so couldn't do much at that low level (early stages of a spin developing). have seen vids on a few rc a/c having the same fate due to high AoB and a real B52 crash in a similar fashion...quite sad really. oh well, it was a nice plane!
@FesterBable and your 100% sure of this? i only ask as the comment says 'but then from nowhere it loses control' as oppose to "but then from nowhere the pilot malfuntions and drops that big bad boy like a $2 whore"
every time I see these things in action it's of them being destroyed. What's the point in buying one and wasting your money? What's their life expectancy? 1 flight?
@DiamondPilotDan Are you retarded? You can buy a car for $30,000 and crash it in a few minutes.....no one can expect the unexpected.
I am only taking a guess now but i presume your one of them people that don't work for a living and soak up your nations resources by expecting handouts, people who complain on what other people sepend there money on usually are anyway.
@barmybrummy1988 Hey prick. First of all it's much harder to crash a car than an RC plane (which doesn't serve useful purposes like cars do). also, I'm not one of "those people".. I'm 17, already a pilot, already earned $5K since I got my first job, I'm about to graduate from a high school ranking in the top 1% in the nation, and I've already been accepted to the best Aeronautical university in the U.S.. So I'm a success. Also, you made some 3rd grade grammar errors: their* you're*
@DiamondPilotDan Hey fanny rash. Also congrats on not been one of them people and such a little tool instead, your a pilot and have made only 5k? your clearly not very good at it then. Top 1% of douchbags? what aeronautical university is that then? I never said im a grammer natzi, i know my spellin is bad and what?
@barmybrummy1988 dear god.. Think. Cars serve a useful purpose. They're well worth the risk to own. RC planes don't serve a vital purpose that cars do. AND more cars crash per day because there are hundreds of millions of cars moving every day, and not as many RC planes. The percentage of RC planes that crash compared to cars that crash would show RC planes crash more. And I'm 17! I legally can't be hired as a pilot. I work at a restaurant. And google ERAU. Don't be a jerk.

The pilot tip-stalled the plane... his own fault. You can clearly see he had control all the way into the ground the way he was fighting it.
Why the extreme high-speed passes, though? If you make a scale plane, at least try and fly it at a scale speed.
