  • this reminds me of an old argument. the one where one asks why do we pay athletes more than teachers.

  • At least the United States has a propaganda ministry....if an unofficial one.

  • It's all about the spin, that revolves around big money/big corporations. Journalism has been dead for a while here. Look at guys like Bill Moyers, no longer on the air, but he was no spin and looking at things how they were instead of how one would like it to look. The dumbing down of this nation is going to lead us into further bad places.

  • The country is about marketing and brainworms, not substance. PR is designed for that, no matter what Chambers says about the "ethics" approach at Georgetown (Catholic Church=ethics???). Therefore how can people expect journalism to compete with that when the same corporations, like Murdoch's unethical empire, are about marketing?

  • In New Zealand we've had the same problem with journalists losing their jobs, mostly to save money. The journalists that are left are overworked, under-resourced, and mostly relying on public relations press releases to do their stories. To make matters worse, ratings have assumed such a degree of importance that news is no based on informing the public but on telling the public what they think they want to hear.

  • opinion has replaced news. i puke every time RT has that alex jones clown on their show.

  • Sadly, nobody is exempt to the rule. The Alyona show is practically nothing but RT's PR power hour. Where Alyona does nothing but strive to make the US look bad and report on "What others are reporting on and gloating about why RT is so much better for not covering the same things". Journalism is dead. On all fronts.

This is why you go out and seek the truth yourself. Because nobody can be trusted to relay the news without putting a self-promoting hypocritical twist on it.

  • @peepeevagi RT is fine. They actually report on news and issues fairly, and even shed some light on what's happening in Russia and the places around it, and everywhere else across the globe. Now it's Genuinely TheAsinineShow that's to blame for any bad rep RT may get from people.

  • I like the BP Oil Spill press conference example. Yes, the implications for American democracy is ALREADY showing. Too late. But if you are in the PR business you sell, and selling is what the world is all about.
