i watched the sopranos and then the wire and then the sopranos and soon the wire and they are interchangeable. and never forget Oz, those three really make up the holy trinity.
I watched the Sopranos first and loved it, but after watching the Wire, which is just so much more realistic and raw, I think the Wire wins hands down.
ive heard of 'the wire' for years and i never saw an episode until last month i began watching and was hooked.
I've just ended season 2 and i had no clue that Dominic West is actually from the UK.. it makes the episode where he "fakes" a accent from the UK quite amusing.
i can understand that sopranos is more commercially successful. To be fair the wire can get complicated sometimes. Having said that both shows pretty much destroy everything else on t.v
I hope that one day britain might put some money into making a good drama
the wire is as good as the sopranos. Im not gonna slip into superlatives like most idiots who just come out and say "oooooo its the best show ever". I havent seen every tv show ever, so i cant say. Its an excellent show, lets leave it at that
the best thing on tv..every aspect is interesting even the political mudslinging which in other programmes may seem really boring...i love this tv series bloody wicked!!!
I love The Wire and am extremely proud of our Brits who can pull off American accents. I would never have known until recently. The Wire for me is the best 'show' (being a yank for a sec) to ever grace our screens. Even superior to The Soprano's which comes a close second. I'm only at the end of the third season so still loads of festivities to enjoy. Let the games begin....again. OMAR RULES!!!
Try Breaking Bad. It may not have the realism (Still not exactly over the top) that the Wire has, but in my opinion the character and story arcs are superior.
It's only about half way through Season 2, so it's pretty easy to get into. I don't think it's being played in England though, I have to watch it online.

They're both still great shows though.

And I'm somewhat dissapointed, I was hoping Dominic West had a strong Yorkshire accent.
It's pretty mild, couldn't place it, just sounds generically well spoken.

I agree with that. People can never enjoy two things that are of equally great quality. They have to compare them both and try to find faults.
Idiots.

I LOVE Wire. It was the best show ever. Did Not Know Dominic West was a Brit since he was so good at play McNulty. What an amazing actor!
