  • Our cartoons don't hold a candle to a classic Avery picture. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • Seven sad humourless no-lifes thumbed this classic down!

  • I think this belongs to you meathead :3

  • TEX = CARTOON MASTER!!! AND IMMORTAL!!!

  • Screwy Squirell was the inspiration for slappy squriell.

  • 7 People wanna go watch Sammy Squirrel!!

  • This is so funny XXXXXXD ROTFALMBO

The old Tex Averies are so classic

  • MY FAVORITE CARTOON CHARACTER if i had the money, i would love to produce a screwy squirrel remake and put it on the air

  • He's broken the fourth wall.

  • @Waxer3929 Isn't that cool, surreal and insane?

  • @smokeemonkee They should have kept this show.,,

  • man this must be the cousin of Conker the squirrel

  • @KingN641994 IRK!? That squirrel's a bastard but is still so darn lovable XD

Something about his Chaotic and Maniacal ways shouts ENDEARING XP

  • that squirel is obviously sniffing white powder

  • Watch it is funny cartoon

  • that's definitely a disney diss!!!! he is mocking disney so well

  • amen...the funniest

  • a perfect example of classic american cartooning, wonderfully subversive and hilarious throughout, tex avery was a true genius.

  • "OH BROTHER, NOT THAT"...SMASH!!! LMAO!

  • Hahaha, oh yeah, I can REALLY see where they got the inspiration for Animaniacs Slappy Squirrel, only she seems sensible compared to Screwy, he makes JOKER look sane. =D

Gotta love the self awareness too, like how Screwy asks the lead what kind of cartoon this is going to be, and the mindless violence of him dispatching said lead.

All that aside, something about Screwy bugs me, probably his having bare lips while having furry cheeks, it just looks wrong somehow.

    Still, F'ing hilarous. =D

  • "Hello! *sniff*" LOL

  • MY cartoon would have been cuter!!

  • hahah screwy is a real bastard but I still love him

  • That squirrel sure knows how to troll!

  • The cutesy squirrel was meant to be a Disney-style character. MGM had their squirrel dispose of him so that some real fun could take place.

One of the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons featured a prince who looked like Walt Disney and charged big bucks for people to tour his castle. (How true.)

  • @SSArcher11 I don't know if he was refering to Disney. Disney had a few silly synphonies that were cute but I think they were really reffring to MGM cartoons directed by Rudolf Isling.

  • tex avery must have had a crazy mind you never know what goes inside the head of a cartoonist

  • Tex Avery, genius, innovator...SICK, DEMENTED AND TWISTED, but a genius nevertheless. His cartoons mean one thing...SCREAMS OF LAUGHTER!

  • What a crime that MGM never did anymore Screwball Squirrel cartoons, he would have given those Warner Bros. cartoons a run for their money. Long Live Screwball Squirrel!!

  • @TimelordR Droopy's pretty funny.

  • @TimelordR I think a problem with him was he was too jerkass, he's hilarious, but you'd hate him if you knew him in real life. Most jerkass characters have some redeeming personality, Screwball is just chaos/malice incarnate. :D

  • hes got a gun

  • the fuckin squirrel will pwn you

  • i feel bad for the dog

  • ROFL at 4:07

  • the fly paper part cracked me up!

  • well that may explain why slappy went bitter.

  • the old sea sickness trick never gets old.

  • It's amazing, this cartoon is like 50-60 years old and its still funny to this day. Cartoons of today just plain suck shit. (Excluding; The Simpsons, South Park and King of the Hill)

  • @EminemFan202

THe Simpsons started to suck around 2000. King of the Hill was the last great animated series on TV.

  • @TKGB2006 I disagree, the Simpsons still rock. King of the Hill is funny as all fuck also and so is South Park.

  • @TKGB2006 I don't know. The writting for the Simpsons seems to have strayed to a completely different direction for me to complete exaggeration. I prefer the old Simpsons. It didn't rely on such exaggerations to get a laugh.

  • tex avery was the master bottom line

  • Nthin like 1940s-1950s cartoons

  • Insane cartoon, I'll take his laugh over Spongebob's any day. That could be Sandy Cheek's very distant relative.

  • "My cartoon would have been cuter!"

    "OH BROTHER NOT THAT!"

I always loved watching Screwy Squirrel cartoons when they would come on when I was a kid, they were GUARANTEED to be completely insane and awesome!

  • Audio was grea!!! thanks!

  • Screwy Squirrel has to be one of Tex Avery's zaniest characters ever! This guy makes me laugh so hard, it hurts! Thanks for uploading!

  • no way in a amillions year this type of cartoon would make it on the air these days

  • Seeing what I have seen on Adult Swim, this is tame, however, I would argue one thing that might keep it off would be the dog's stuttering.

Wonderful cartoon! I don't know what happened between WB and MGM but Avery and Heck Allen and staff made some doozies.

  • Forget Bug Bunny, Forget Daffy Duck, forget every cartoon that is ever made! Screwy Squirrel is THE ultrament King of Cartoon Comedy

  • genius!

  • Avery based a lot of his characters on radio characters. Egghead was from Joe Penner. Droopy Dog came from Bill Thompson's Wallace WImple character on the Fibber McGee & Molly program. Screwy Squirrel was voice by Wally Maher and comes from a character named Wilbur on the Tommy Riggs & Betty Lou program. Wilbur was Betty Lou's boyfriend. Thompson & Maher did the voices on the radio & the cartoons. Screwy Squirrel is my all-time favorite cartoon character. Love the music @ 4:19.

  • When you hear the Disney esque squirrel talking about his friends being in the picture, he mentions Barney Bear, another MGM cartoon character who had its own series of cartoons.

  • anything can in a cartoon

  • I think Screwy Squirrel was a cokehead-that's why he always snorts after saying "hello"

  • Hands UP

    Hilarious

  • this is way ahead of its time!

    i like it!

  • Soooooooooooooooo postmodern. Fucking sweet.

  • i wish all squirrels like him

    hes nuts

  • Yikes!

Can't make 'toons like this these days, with 'political correctness' as it be's, chumps!

How many 'gags' can 'U' spot, which would be deemed 'inappropriate' for today's politically sensitive dolts out there nowadays? Uh-oh, references to being mentally retarde---ooops! 'challenged',

stupid drunk (oops). intoxicated-- or even politically crippled, like so many supporters of mis-spoken Presidents-

    "Corpse-Men", etc.

Take your PC and stuff it, chumps! ha ha

    Your Pal,

    Fluffy

  • god I love this short, kills me every time

  • These old cartoons are so hilarious and awesome, created by truly talented people.

In contrast look at the shit they show on tv to the kids today.

  • Please watch your language

  • Ah... Screwball Squirrel, the very character who introduced me to cartoons and their way of violence...

    Those were the days...

  • i never heard of this before, i saw this episode 4 years ago with my mom, never heard of it before and never again after, but i finally found it!!!

  • Screwy the Squirrel will always be my favorite cartoon character.

  • The ending was priceless.

Sickeningly sweet squirrel-"My cartoon would have been better."

Twin Screwballs and Twin Meatheads (in unisom)-"Oh, brother, not that!"

    *Old school ass-kicking ensues.*

  • HOOBASTANK!!!!

  • I loved 3:10 - 3:25. That's really funny!

  • I've ALWAYS loved his laugh.

  • he laughs like Boycie from Only Fools & Horses!!! LOL loveit

  • The way that Screwball Squirrel laughs reminds me of Spongebob Squarepants.

Wonder if the one influenced the other.

  • "No chum, believe it or not, I'm waiting for a streetcar"

Makes me ROF and L every time!

  • 0:55 after awhile you get sick of cute cartoons as well.

  • brilliant

  • can anyone tell me the episiode where some dog is in prison and then he escapes by digging a tunnel with a spoon but wounds up being in the sheriffs tv set and whenever the sheriff switches channels the dog dresses up in disguises. thanks :)

  • The skipping record gag while they were running, cracks me up every time! XD

  • sammy sammy sammy im a squirrel squirrel squirrel, cutest little rodent in the world world world.

  • ss is a shit disturber

  • Jajaja le tiraba mierda a disney. Tex Avery era la neta

  • There was a newer version of the Screwball Squirrel, I believe on What A Cartoon, but I cannot find it on youtube.

  • Was it Sledgehammer O' Possum?

  • Actually it was, I got it mixed with the squirrel, thanks.

  • First ever Screwy's debut

  • It was funny when they were all fighting like loonatics in the end

  • ahaaaaaaaa @ 1:15

  • Dam shame how all 4 of them jumped that poor squirrel...wait a minute what the hell Im talkin bout fuck that gay ass squirrel they should've stumped his ass.

  • Looney tunes have copied that! This is so much better than Bugs Bunny!

  • Forget Bugs Bunny, this guy's the king of insane cartoons! :D

  • Hello! (sniffs)

  • @Hotshotter3000 Tex Avery was actually a big part in creating the personality of bugs bunny and many of it's key characters!! Why do you think some of the gags are so similar. Just watch "Counterfeit Cat" and you will see

  • @Hotshotter3000 lol tex avery created bugs bunny

  • @Hotshotter3000 I would never turn my back on Bugs Bunny.

  • the mask is a big pack of all cartoons he is definitely the best

  • 1:15 afterwhile you get tired of cute cartoons. thats why i like this part, no offence.

  • Could this be the forerunner of Screwball Squirrel off of Master Detective Droopy?

  • I haven't seen this in YEARS; I LOVE this cartoon! Thanks so much for sharing!

  • I love how Tex put the kibosh on Disney style stories from 1:19 on.....

    cd

  • screwball was right, we wouldn't like the story.

  • 5:23 That seasick gag kind of backfired on you didn't it, Screwy?

  • You'd think they didn't make cartoons like this for the next few decades, until the 90s, Animaniacs was born and god damn....I effing loved that cartoon

  • 1:58 - 2:00

he has that asshole laugh. XD

  • Comment removed

  • This squirrel was the original Conker.

  • his name is Screwball Squirrel.

  • I think that more people would have loved this character if he'd had a better voice actor.

  • LOL. The squirrel believes in God.

  • Gotta love Tex Avery. His cartoons were the best!!!

  • amen 2 that.

  • Yes, and that is why that 30 years after his death, Avery's body of work is still watched and popular by a future generation because it is still funny.

  • @k03581 hell yeah

  • I just saw the crappy version of this guy. Busby Bobcat. What a douche. Screwball_FTW!

  • I like any cartoon where the cutest character gets the crap beaten out of him in the first minute and a half.

  • yeah they don't make cartoons like they used to lol

  • What an asshole, but fuckin hilarious!

  • anything can happen in a cartoon.

  • Anything can happen...if the cartoon is directed by Tex Avery (or Bob Clampett).

  • Or Chuck Jones.

Man, cartoons used to be weird, but oh so awesome.

  • Yeah, but that's what made 'em soooo cool, was the weird stuff, you had to do a double take just to make sure you saw what just happened, Tex, Bob and Chuck were awesome when it came to this stuff.

  • Oooh, indubitably!

  • dude this cartoons used to rule man. now the pussy ass shit they show the kids today compares nothing with this.

  • Totally dude ! I miss watching all the good stuff like this and Droopy Dog, Tom and Jerry, and everyone else. I wish they would put these cartoons back on. :)

  • I agree, 1/2 the stuff they show nowadays just makes no sense (not evn n a funny sense like this r Ren and Stimpy), s'all knock off rehash watered down since censors n the late 90's-early 00's heard kids tried pullin' off these same gags for real, when it's the parents place t'let the kids kno it's just a 'toon & that there's no reality to it ppl went t'the movies 4 stuff like this as n escape. too much slack on the parents part 4 not givin' kids a reality check. now it's all edit friendly

  • totally dude . . this is the good old fashioned violence/ funny stuff . . . just like in Tom and Jerry . . . it's just for fun

  • what a twist! i'ts like tex avery's "The Prestige"

  • 5:51 imitating sound FX XD

  • hiliarous

  • Is this one by TexAvery

  • yes

  • Wow, I could alllllmost see the twins twist for Screwy, but I never would've seen the dog as twins AS WELL. Wow, wow.

  • i guess screwy beat the hell out of Sammy Squirrel

  • 5:42

    DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • lol not what i was expecting.

  • i think this cartoon influenced conker's bad furday, the voice, personality, appearance, etc

  • 5:22 Yeah that seasick gag kind of backfired on you

  • Avery grew to loathe Screwy. Too bad. I think he's the funniest character ever.

There was a guy I knew socially who reminded me of Screwy Squirrel- so much so that I always referred to him by that name to my wife. They finally both showed up at an event- and out of over a hundred peope present, my wife knew IMMEDIATELY who I referred to as Screwy . LOL

  • I may be mistaken, but I think he only produced 3 Screwball Squirrell cartoons. I love this character.....a real troublemaker and a nutcase to boot. Tex should've made more cartoons showcasing him.

  • i love screwy too, but tex hated him believe it or not!

  • Hated him so much he killed him off!

  • Actually 5, but all over the span of about 3 years.

  • man this cartoon is WAY better than what we got now

  • My favourite character from all !!

This squirrel is really awesome !!!

    So funnier than today's cartoons..

"Believe it or not i wait for speed car !" xDD

  • At the beginning when Sammy Squirrel is mentioning all his "cute little furry friends in the forest", one of the names he rattles off is Barney Bear...who, oddly enough, was an actual (non-Avery) MGM character at the time.

  • Oh man, now those were the days. Screwy Squirrel is one of my all-time favorite oldie cartoon characters. He's absolutely hilarious! His wit and quick-thinking is on a level all its own. I especially love his laugh! "Now he oughta know better than that!"

  • What's the name of that Screwy Squirrel cartoon in which he's an institution where the buildings spell out "NUTZ"?

  • "Happy Go Nutty"

  • "Happy Go Nutty"

  • I FUCKING love the asshole laugh he has!!

  • If you were to put every drunken heckler in the world into a wooden tub, then have the devil leap into it and mash them into wine, then let it curdle in a moist storm cellar for about six months, and finally put it in a teapot and boil it, the whistle would sound like Screwy Squirrel's laugh.

  • bugs aint my fav. screwy is! lmao

  • screwy kicks ass

  • Well now I know how Conker(from Conker's Bad Fur Day) was born. :P

  • Exactly what I was thinking, except Screwy is more for the kids than Conker. lol

  • ugh... that last gag of the dog stepping off the moving train makes me cringe every time. I know you don't see anything, but they cut like 1 frame before anything happens and you imagination just makes it all up and it's so awful. lol Tex rules.

  • Gotta love these classics ;-)))

  • 5:52 likes the way he imitated the sound FX!

  • hey all they need to do is say, how would a 24 to 35 year old man find this funny and make that joke. not practical these days.

  • wow, ROFLMAO, they beat the shit oout of that squirrel

  • "The funny stuff starts as soon as the phone rings!" LOL

  • Tex said, nothing is too crazy!

  • HaHaHaHA! Sorry, I was just laughing about that April Fool joke back in 1997 on Cartoon Network. I was a little freaked out and I thought the computer at the broadcasting station was broken. Now, I look back at that day and laugh.

  • dude i remember that was it when they kept playing screwy all day long

  • They only repeatedly played "Happy-Go-Nutty". It was an April Fool gag indicating that Screwy took over the network.

  • Gotta love those spot gags.

  • omg he beat up the little cute squirrel with the annoying voice! i love Squirrels

  • Alguien la tiene en Español Latino?

  • LOL at Screwball's scream at 3:08!

  • All I remember was I was a kid, on April fools day, they played a screwy squirrel cartoon non-stop on CN.

  • I remember that, too-it got VERY annoying as they played it all day in my opinion...but then again, that's just me, not sure if you feel that way *sweatdrops*

  • the golden years of CN where those.

  • On April Fools Day, Cartoon Network played an 18 hr Tex Avery Marathon and I still got it on tape

  • You are awesome ! I love you. :) Why didn't I think of that ! lol

  • Aww, you're so lucky. Convert that tape to DVD and start puttin' out on eBay >:D. I'd buy it :D

  • About ten years ago, I think it was Cartoon Network that had a weekly 30 minute Tex Avery Show with both his Warner Bros. & MGM work. They really ought to bring it back.

  • "Oh brother,oh brother not that,not that!"
