  • I remember coming across a caterpillar that looked like it. Only this one was hissing at us But it was definitely a caterpillar.

If you know anything about a hissing caterpillar, could you tell me? I'd hugely appreciate it. Does that one hiss?

  • That's what it wants you to think, but it isn't.

  • awesome man

  • Wow. I'm usually afraid of bugs and the likes, but this little fellow is amazing. I've looked up the moth it turns into and that's gorgeous too. Do these only live in america? I'd like to see one.

  • They are native along the eastern US and west to Kansas & Texas, but there are similar moths in the same family that live in most countries of the world.

  • i cought one

  • wow, spectacular caterpillar! Does it morph to a moth or butterfly?

  • a regal moth :)

  • i know it's real, but the colors make it look fake

your lucky :) ,its so cute and cool!

  • its frigin scaru looking

  • slow..

  • What if it feels hungry and start to eat your hand?

  • It wouldn't get very far, it doesn't have that strong a mouth. It only eats leaves in the hickory and pecan family, anyway.

  • does it feel weird when it walks on your hand?

  • Their feet have little hooks the same as velcro does, so it feels a little scratchy. It's harmless, though.

  • man i know its real but that looks so animated!

  • Considering that scorpions have stingers, and this caterpillar doesn't... I'll take my chances with the harmless, leaf-eating caterpillar.

  • holy crapos its amazing and the colors are beyond beautiful thats y i love animals and bugs :D

  • RAWR!

  • it is beautiful:)

  • Its huuuuuuge

  • i wouldnt let that freakadelic creature on my arm all though its sorta cool (lol haha freakadelic srry just had 2 say it)

  • that us one weird looking catapillar. i like it. why is it so big?

  • You'd have to ask nature... but practically speaking it is big since it is also a big moth once it metamorphosizes.

  • SO BEAUTIFUL! and really extrodinary or however you spell it.

  • what is that?!!!!

  • A hickory horned devil caterpillar. It turns into a regal moth.

  • うーわ。・・・ま 負けた

  • OMG!

  • JESUS HOLY CHRIST! THAT IS HUGE!

  • freaky

  • thats cool shit

  • Omg freaking scaryyyy O.O

I'm not normally afraid of bugs but that's crazy :D

  • Wow, looks cool

  • arnt they poisonous?

  • No, this species is harmless. Though if you do not know what a bug is it is best not to touch it.

  • are you sure it's a 31 year old hand there? it looks like the hand of a child

  • Yep, it's my hand, and I'm 31... so thanks! You can google "Citheronia regalis" or "hickory horned devil" if you'd like to verify how large they get.

  • fuckin fat

  • r u sure its safe 2 touch it?

  • Hickory horned devil caterpillars are harmless, though if you don't know what a bug is it's best not to touch it.

  • Bet thats a large bloody butterfly

  • You can google "regal moth" if you'd like to see what it turns into.

  • if there was a spiked human he would be the best ufc fighter EVAR

  • zomg it's gonna eat yooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!

  • It eats leaves.

  • Sc sc scary

  • MONSTER

  • ummmmm isnt that supposed to hurt? the spikes

  • It's just for show, this species of caterpillar is harmless.

  • friggin catapillar devil!coolest insect ever!!

  • are they dangerous. i was a sort of mutant bee in my room. well i have no idea... sounded like a bee. i trapped it and forze it (to make it sleep) and it had a stinger but a hard shell to guard wigns. liek a ladybird... any ideas?

  • Hickory horned devil caterpillars are harmless.

  • ok that is one creepy caterpiller =O

  • That's one funky looking caterpillar you got there.

  • looks like a dragon

    so coool

  • That thing reminds me of King Bowser Koopa, I don't know why though.... Yah that's an awesome caterpillar. Do you know how long they live?

  • It depends on how long they stay in their pupa. As an adult moth they live less than 2 weeks, but as a caterpillar and pupa they live longer.

  • ivw seen one of these in my backyard. i almost reached down to pick it up but i saw the horns and hesitated in fear of being stabbed. i tried to get it to crawl on my hand but it got pissed and ran off

  • Though this caterpillar species is harmless, a few of them sting, so it is smart not to touch things you don't recognize.

  • omg i love that thing but i would not let it on my hand

  • it almost looks fake

  • omgg thats amazing

it kinda looks like that dinosaur

uhh i dunno its name haha triceratops (sp) maybe??

    anyways

its pretty fxcking cool though :]

  • Amazing love to see what it looks like post chrysalis

  • You can google "regal moth" if you'd like to see.

  • OMG !

BUT THEY BURN US HARD !!!!

    how did yu catch it?

  • Hickory horned devil caterpillars are harmless, though there are a minority of caterpillar species that have stinging bristles so it pays not to touch one if you don't know what it is.

  • your so brave!!

  • holy shit, AHHH!!! :(

  • Whoa... never thought I'd ever see something like a caterpillar grow that big.

  • It looks angry...

  • Well, it probably didn't want to be touched. They're harmless, though.

  • thats beautiful

  • holy i would not touch one of those!!!

  • see real UFO tape. close up of alien ufo in los angeles!

  • looks a little fake cause of the colour

  • They're pretty crazy looking. You can look up "Citheronia regalis" on google if you want to check.

  • i found one of those in my backyard... my friend FREAKED out. But i really wanted to poke it :)

    it looks so cool!

  • wud type of butterfly does it turn into???

  • Look up a "regal moth" on Google.

  • I live in south east Ohio and found one of those a few years ago. I had to take it to the division of wildlife headquarters to find out what it was. I almost forgot how big they are.
