Bugs are cool they used to be a lot bigger when we had more oxegen in the atmosphere we could still get that much oxegen agian if we had more tree's, hey here's an idea lets cover the earth in a globle forest and then in a million years when every thinks big lets have a giant party
i swear to god i found a caterpillar that looked like that one poke mon it was green with big black eyes and had blue feet and a pick thing on its head and orange horns down its back
omg,omg ive never seen 1 befor! the first time i looked at it i thaught it was scary, but then after watching ur vid i found it to be quite harmless and cute (in its own funny way)
Wow. I'm usually afraid of bugs and the likes, but this little fellow is amazing. I've looked up the moth it turns into and that's gorgeous too. Do these only live in america? I'd like to see one.
They are native along the eastern US and west to Kansas & Texas, but there are similar moths in the same family that live in most countries of the world.
are they dangerous. i was a sort of mutant bee in my room. well i have no idea... sounded like a bee. i trapped it and forze it (to make it sleep) and it had a stinger but a hard shell to guard wigns. liek a ladybird... any ideas?
ivw seen one of these in my backyard. i almost reached down to pick it up but i saw the horns and hesitated in fear of being stabbed. i tried to get it to crawl on my hand but it got pissed and ran off
Hickory horned devil caterpillars are harmless, though there are a minority of caterpillar species that have stinging bristles so it pays not to touch one if you don't know what it is.
O i found one onetime on a sweetgum tree and took care of it until it became a pupa form but it never hatched out because i forgot to keep it moist :( I still have the pod
OMG my friend found one of those things and i was like WTF!! i thought it was an alien or sumthin i mean seriously i was freakin out. and it would try to spike me with its evil horns every time i tried to touch it lol
i saw one in my yard a few years ago. so im guessing they arent too rare. or could i have sold it to some caterpillar habitat for......a billion dollars maybe? just a guestamation
I live in south east Ohio and found one of those a few years ago. I had to take it to the division of wildlife headquarters to find out what it was. I almost forgot how big they are.
It's harmless though.

What if it feels hungry and start to eat your hand?
Michaeljensenny 3 years ago
It wouldn't get very far, it doesn't have that strong a mouth. It only eats leaves in the hickory and pecan family, anyway.
elizalalala 3 years ago
does it feel weird when it walks on your hand?
darkmage445 3 years ago 4
Their feet have little hooks the same as velcro does, so it feels a little scratchy. It's harmless, though.
elizalalala 3 years ago
man i know its real but that looks so animated!
guitarkid024 3 years ago 4
Considering that scorpions have stingers, and this caterpillar doesn't... I'll take my chances with the harmless, leaf-eating caterpillar.

are you sure it's a 31 year old hand there? it looks like the hand of a child
mazdaplz 3 years ago
Yep, it's my hand, and I'm 31... so thanks! You can google "Citheronia regalis" or "hickory horned devil" if you'd like to verify how large they get.

pavan151 3 years ago
That thing reminds me of King Bowser Koopa, I don't know why though.... Yah that's an awesome caterpillar. Do you know how long they live?
NSX86R 3 years ago
It depends on how long they stay in their pupa. As an adult moth they live less than 2 weeks, but as a caterpillar and pupa they live longer.
elizalalala 3 years ago
ivw seen one of these in my backyard. i almost reached down to pick it up but i saw the horns and hesitated in fear of being stabbed. i tried to get it to crawl on my hand but it got pissed and ran off

Though this caterpillar species is harmless, a few of them sting, so it is smart not to touch things you don't recognize.
