This was a great video. I was about to give up on ever getting apps but this video was straight forward and though technology hates me I was able to do it! I wanted to find a way around paying a large phone bill just to have the internet to get apps and voila! Take that Rogers and thank you.
is there another way to instal astro?? my fucking phone has wifi issus, it doesnt detect wifis. I already rooted my phone. Is there another way to add the app?
@Mr9000and1 The best way That i know their team has done it is using the cord. Plugin a PC or MAC and do a Data transfer to the SD card. This works for most of us in our studio when we can't attach to the wifi either. Just saying! Good Luck>!
@buzz17289 Tutorial was created to allow users to follow along and allow for for people to get as much information and not have tons of questions. Probably not, cause the first thing you did was watch and then be critical cause you can't think of anything supportive to say. Way to Go! #FailmorePlx.
@theovids Please open the description of the Video if you have an AT&T Device. If not, it's possible and all the more likely that your carrier has blocked Side-Loading of applications and such to your phone. Common with AT&T and T-Mobile and a few others not in the US. Please research your carrier to see if you have SIDE-LOADING enabled (this option in the Android OS) before continuing.
i have htc desire hd, its wifi is not working, that means i cant use android market or appbrain etc stuff.. i dont have any explorer like app in my phone, i have paste some of the .apk file via data cable, but now how can i install them(or locate them) .. please help.
@mechanical68 Send us an email at geektekneek@gmail.com so that we can communicate w/ you. We are more than willing to help you seek a method which will allow you to install as best as we can.
@deftonespg Sometimes a developer will build and app and not include the APK in the deployment of the build....or in this case he /she finishes the application SDK development and tries to export and it only gives a ZIP file w/ no APK as the SDK software either errors out or fails on Certificate Validation. There are many scenarios, these 2 are the most popular. Or it could be a false App. Just some things to think about. IF you need us to find an apk for you, email us geektekneek@gmail.com

Um I have a problem. My computer doesnt recognize my device. I plug it in my computer using my usb cable and nothing happens. I hear 3 weird sounds and then nothing. Please help?&
@Fiascope Check your device and see if it allows you to select which mode you are connecting under. Normally when this happens ,the device (phone in this case), will have 3 choices as in the HTC's where it says , HTC Sync, Charge Only, Disk Drive or do nothing. IN this case you will need to select DISK DRIVE on the phone for the PC to recognize that it's trying to access the SD card via the USB connectoin. Check this and let us know, if not , email us at geektekneek@gmail.com Thanks again :)
@evilrobbanks I use a few different ones at the moment : in this i believe it's BattStat, Circle Battery Widget and G-TAB Simi Battery part of the GTab Simi Clock app. Any one of those 3 is what our team use. Lowest resource and battery drain.
@ilikeyosmile2 Are you Rooted, Custom ROM? We would need to know more about the phone to determine the best course of action at this time. Email us please at geektekneek@gmail.com. Hit us up and we can help ya to the best of our abilities. Thanks for the comment and subs!

@PossessWithin Ok wow, Welcome first of all. Nice to have you hear. Hope you enjoy more of our Tuts. As for your questions. There is a BlackMarket per say, it's a P2P type thing , just look around. To transfer apk files to the computer and device and such, no , you just need to be able to open using File Explorer on the Computer and a software app like Astro File Explorer on the phone. Same thing w/ txt, pdf and other files. Simple Windows file transfer.
@christian97123 At least it's able for people to understand and comprehend and not just mumbling like most of the tutorials that are out there. Thanks for watching!
@vanvanbluz If you have access to this either via the SDK and the drivers and/or the ROOTED The phone, you would just copy the APK file to the App Directory. From our experiences we neither promote or deny use of this method for installing apps as in root or SDK, users need to exercise caution. Side Loading of apps is merely done via the SD card which is alternate to main phone storage. It would be in your best Interest to seek a post in XDA Forums on this.
@vanvanbluz Yeah if you are not rooted due to permissions you will not be able to do this. It's due to the design of the OS and how Android is built. You will need to be rooted and have full SU rights to the system.
@PluggedIn2010 Well I got YouWave (Android Emulator for PC) and I installed 2 apps and work perfectly, just that one says I need more memory and the other requires me to put ROMS in the mem card which I don't know where it's located. The others say it has an ARM native code and arent supported. What does this mean?
@supagokuman2 It is possible yes, and what is hard is with many of the apps out there from the Google search results , its hard to always tell, but one thing to remember when side loading as this Tut shows, is that you can open it with WINRAR or 7Zip , APK's are openable, if you can, do this and look at the XML and find out if it looks legit from the Author. This will help. General Rule of Thumb, tho, Is to always get your apps from a Trusted Source. Thanks for the compliments.
@supagokuman2 With this, it's hard to really say who is good and who is not reliable. I have not side loaded much in the lines of apps as of late, however the team here at PluggedIn has and does quite often. It would be in your interest to download where you can from, and then open the APK with a archive app and make sure it's legit.
Nice video. I am researching apps from computer to android phone because all of a sudden my android phone stopped downloading or updating anything from the android market. Your system won't work as the first thing you said was download from the android market a management folder.
Do you have any idea how to fix the problem of the android market not downloading. It seems to be rather a common problem. Many people have the problem.
@jasneskis It's good that you point this out and for that our Team @ GeekTekneek thanks you for this observation. Our System does work in 2 facets of this type of situation, in the event that you are unable to install from the market, you can use the Google Search as we indicated and substitude the APK name that you wish to search for via Google. Not to mention, Market is available via the web now, so you don't need the device, you can download via web and follow the Tut to install.
@jasneskis Also on the fix for the market issue that you are noticing, I have only seen this intermittently on some devices. More notably on devices with bad ROM's from Rooting or other such things. It's our best practice here if we can't get dL or update from market to reset device to FACTORY or if Rooted, - Undo Root and flash Factory ROM to the device and try again. This most often fixes the issue. Hope this helps and glad you enjoyed the Tut.
@Fedora785 Thanks, I try to keep as well as the team, clean desktops to allow for minimal confusion and RAM hogging by Windows. I have since moved to Apple myself (Senior Videographer and Tutorialist) but yeah. Thanks!
@tipoomaster Usually in this case or this type of situation, it's due to the fact that either 1 you don't have access to the SD card or 2 it's been formatted and is empty and not containing any data, or lastly it's possible you don't have access to the storage within the phone. Check w/ manufacturer and provider about this issue.
@giofig40 That is a custom theme i created using Launcher Pro , Simi Clock and BattStatt I do believe.. I also am using Circle Battery Widget, Minimalistic Text Widget all available from the Market for free. FYI the dock and the background are my custom creations and Photoshops. I can provide those if needed. I have also in this video used SwitchPro Paid. It's amazing. Thanks.
@Miguelb009 , For this best place would be if you are using the latest Android or some of the other versions....Look in the market. It's the number one location to get you the apps needed to start this tutorial off correct on your installs.
@rabbitstuds ***PLEASE NOTE UPDATE 9/2011 - AT&T Customers, this method may/may not work for you as they have BLOCKED Side loading of apps. (UNKNOWN SOURCES Checkbox)**** In the information part, this is notated if you are an ATT customer.
@rabbitstuds On some phones the side loading of apps is blocked as well. I do believe that the Samsungs are this way despite having them be on sprint. Just check to make sure. XDA-Forums is a great place to find out if side loading is allowed.
@markandayravi1997 As of right now, the only way around this is to root the phone and turn off S and initiate NAND write to the device, however here at GeekTekneek / PluggedIn2010 we don't advocate or request that you do this, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN WILL... IF you choose, then you would have the ability to install them via other methods which are associated with ROOTING the phone along with other features. XDA-Developers Forum is a good place to start.
@markandayravi1997 I'm guessing that you are an ATT customer. If so, as stated before in other comments. AT&T has blocked Side load of applications using this method. Please make note that this method will not work for you. I will be adding this to the description.
@sciayanpsy Not to jump out on anyone, but for your information, this is an How-to video, not poetry. Obviously you don't know the difference and feel that you must try and belittle someone who is providing something helpful to the community. Before you think you have the right to do it again, YOU MAKE VIDEO like this and post it and then come talk to me. Till then STFU and Enjoy the video.
@raysaul@sairaj34 Guys in this case, sometimes yes you can do the updates, but some of them which can be sideloaded using this method , and are attained using a hacked version or already licensed version will not work . Perfect examples of this are LauncherPro and some others. WE have had many emails asking why LP doesnt' update when they have sideloaded from other sources. It's usually due to registration. Most apps can be updated , yes.
i have a htc wild fire and i have downloaded splash top remote of the internet i have follwed your steps but whem i press install in astro manger it says 'application not installed' so what could be the problem?
@blaker2094 One thing you need to remember when trying to install apps, is that you need to Google Search to find out if your carrier blocks the Side-Loading of apps. If this is the case, then you won't be able to install. ATT and T-Mobile both write the block code into the installer of the OS.
@UnofficialPS Please send an email to GeekTekneek@gmail.com and one of our Specialists will help you out. We need more information about the install to help furthur. Build of Android, Phone Model, App trying to install, etc.
@QBlackDeathQ As listed below in other things, please see the response to F3lixMjamjar. ATT is not supported as they dont' allow Side Loading of applications. it's in the comments. Sorry , but unless you have Root, adding applications on this method will not work. Enjoy!
I have a att inspire and it does not show or let me install apk files. i have checked to see if it gives me the option to allow none marketplace apps to be installed but i see no such option
@goofynewfie12 Glad you enjoyed it. I will be having the team put more up soon as we get them in. Had to replace all our VId Equipment. Keep your YT tuned in.
@anth1165 at this point, installing games as a side load, is not something that we are much experienced on. I would check on the XDA forums for this type of information. Thanks.
ok, so what f i have the APK on my computer (linux 11.04)and then want to put it on my HTC legend, how might i import the apps from the sd card (I connected as "disk drive" andd d copied the .apk over). i can get into the SD card.. :(
@F3lixMjamjar Ok first thing you need to make note of is if you are ATT customer, in this case : I'm guessing No since Legend was primarily GSM For Vodaphone and Virgin. If you are, stop reading (ATT customers) Their carrier doens't allow side-loading of Apps or APK, if you are able , download FileExplorer or Astro and then open using AppManager after browsing to the APK. You will need to make sure you Check UnAuthorized Apps in the Settings.
@mutekisenshi To answer your question, yes in fact they are a universal packed format for Android developed by Google. You can open any APK using 7zip or WinRAR. But yes, if you xfer from EVO to Infuse, to GalaxyS and so forth, yes it will work. Android-Platform-Package File. -= APK ,
@blazesam99 Ok, fyi, you will need to find the apk file from where you downloaded it on the phone. Usually a utility like Astro or File Explorer will help you in this. See the notes above to get this from the market. You then will need to browse to the downloads area of your phone or SD card using the utility and then touch the apk you have dl'd. and then install. It will prompt for unknown sources unless you are ATT, which look below. Email if you have more issues : geektekneek@gmail.com
@N0S0OP4U APK files can be opened by 7zip. Just download it from google, via search. APK files are not native to really any said OS, however in Linux they are easier to work with straight off the phone or market. Android SDK is a fundamental asset to really dig down type management of APK files. Use 7 Zip utility, free to do what you need with. FYI - Unless you are unpacking , modding the apk, it's not needed. Just xfer from PC to Device or vice versa.
ATT has a lock on unknown applications. They for some reason Service Provider Lock all their phones. This is evident on many of the other Android devices also. See some of my other videos and tutorials and you will see others who have this problem. Only way to bypass this would be to try a ROOT and then Flash with new ROM.
@MrCheesedogim So Ummm yeah, in your opinion yes, but let me put it this way. We have many people who are not "as technically ept" and need direction. Tutorials are to be thorough and informative. I would rather talk more than enough and cover the topics rather than skimp and leave a user clueless. Think about that next time.
@BootuT - I'm not sure if it's possible, mainly as you will need some type of file explorer to actually install and located the file (APK in this case) that is stored on the SD or memory. Application manager by default will not just 'pick up' and 'find' the apk you downloaded and ask if you like to install it. Hope this helps, any other questions, post here or email us : geektekneek@gmail.com
It is possible that you are on a build of Android where that option was not included. Please let me know what version you are using, if you can email pics to our email : geektekneek@gmail.com . Our team would be more than willing to help out. Go to About Phone, Software version and email us that also. Pre 2.0 , 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 etc.
Sent you an email regarding this and yes you are correct. At&T is blocking side-loading of apps. There are a few tools out there, Rooting is one of the main things you will need to do, in order to move forward. Also, you will need something like side-loader app or similiar to allow install of apps from SD. Check your mail, our engineers have included some posts on this. Thanks
I'm sorry that you felt that this was like a Sales Pitch. It was not intended that way, merely a outlet for people if they don't know where to look or how to do it. So chill out for once. Yeah I probably could of made it in 5 min or 7 but sometimes being thorough is much better than leaving people in the dark wondering, ever look at it that way?
Please, oh pretty please... calm down with the sales-talk. Get to the point of the vid instead of talking excessively without any extra info. You could have made this into a 5 min video without cutting any info out of it. (or ads ... perhaps 7 mins with the ads)
thank you sooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!

supagokuman2 4 months ago
@supagokuman2 Umm No, usually when you get a site like that, it's probably not legit. I don't ever install if it looks suspect like this.
PluggedIn2010 4 months ago
@PluggedIn2010 Well I got YouWave (Android Emulator for PC) and I installed 2 apps and work perfectly, just that one says I need more memory and the other requires me to put ROMS in the mem card which I don't know where it's located. The others say it has an ARM native code and arent supported. What does this mean?

GREAT TUTORIAL!
Quick Question:
is it possible for an apk to be "fake" and it crashes your phone? If so, how can we tell?
supagokuman2 4 months ago
@supagokuman2 It is possible yes, and what is hard is with many of the apps out there from the Google search results , its hard to always tell, but one thing to remember when side loading as this Tut shows, is that you can open it with WINRAR or 7Zip , APK's are openable, if you can, do this and look at the XML and find out if it looks legit from the Author. This will help. General Rule of Thumb, tho, Is to always get your apps from a Trusted Source. Thanks for the compliments.
PluggedIn2010 4 months ago
@PluggedIn2010 do you know any reliable sites? Or tell me if this site is reliable: bestandroiddownloads. com
supagokuman2 4 months ago
@supagokuman2 With this, it's hard to really say who is good and who is not reliable. I have not side loaded much in the lines of apps as of late, however the team here at PluggedIn has and does quite often. It would be in your interest to download where you can from, and then open the APK with a archive app and make sure it's legit.
PluggedIn2010 4 months ago
Many people have the problem.
jasneskis 4 months ago
@jasneskis It's good that you point this out and for that our Team @ GeekTekneek thanks you for this observation. Our System does work in 2 facets of this type of situation, in the event that you are unable to install from the market, you can use the Google Search as we indicated and substitude the APK name that you wish to search for via Google. Not to mention, Market is available via the web now, so you don't need the device, you can download via web and follow the Tut to install.
PluggedIn2010 4 months ago
@jasneskis Also on the fix for the market issue that you are noticing, I have only seen this intermittently on some devices. More notably on devices with bad ROM's from Rooting or other such things. It's our best practice here if we can't get dL or update from market to reset device to FACTORY or if Rooted, - Undo Root and flash Factory ROM to the device and try again. This most often fixes the issue. Hope this helps and glad you enjoyed the Tut.

My home folder in Astro is empty...?
tipoomaster 4 months ago
@tipoomaster Usually in this case or this type of situation, it's due to the fact that either 1 you don't have access to the SD card or 2 it's been formatted and is empty and not containing any data, or lastly it's possible you don't have access to the storage within the phone. Check w/ manufacturer and provider about this issue.
PluggedIn2010 4 months ago
@PluggedIn2010
Thanks, but I figured it out. My Nexus S seems to take a while to understand that files have been added to it, they showed up in a few minutes.

giofig40 5 months ago
@giofig40 That is a custom theme i created using Launcher Pro , Simi Clock and BattStatt I do believe.. I also am using Circle Battery Widget, Minimalistic Text Widget all available from the Market for free. FYI the dock and the background are my custom creations and Photoshops. I can provide those if needed. I have also in this video used SwitchPro Paid. It's amazing. Thanks.

Miguelb009 5 months ago
@Miguelb009 , For this best place would be if you are using the latest Android or some of the other versions....Look in the market. It's the number one location to get you the apps needed to start this tutorial off correct on your installs.

@rabbitstuds ***PLEASE NOTE UPDATE 9/2011 - AT&T Customers, this method may/may not work for you as they have BLOCKED Side loading of apps. (UNKNOWN SOURCES Checkbox)**** In the information part, this is notated if you are an ATT customer.
PluggedIn2010 5 months ago
@rabbitstuds On some phones the side loading of apps is blocked as well. I do believe that the Samsungs are this way despite having them be on sprint. Just check to make sure. XDA-Forums is a great place to find out if side loading is allowed.

but is there any hack or anything I can do to get this to work, maybe any other way to do this oh and ur right, i am an att customer
markandayravi1997 5 months ago
@markandayravi1997 As of right now, the only way around this is to root the phone and turn off S and initiate NAND write to the device, however here at GeekTekneek / PluggedIn2010 we don't advocate or request that you do this, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN WILL... IF you choose, then you would have the ability to install them via other methods which are associated with ROOTING the phone along with other features. XDA-Developers Forum is a good place to start.

markandayravi1997 5 months ago
@markandayravi1997 I'm guessing that you are an ATT customer. If so, as stated before in other comments. AT&T has blocked Side load of applications using this method. Please make note that this method will not work for you. I will be adding this to the description.

raysaul 6 months ago
@raysaul i wanna know it too when i do it from pc using htc sync ... the app doent get update
sairaj34 6 months ago
@raysaul @sairaj34 Guys in this case, sometimes yes you can do the updates, but some of them which can be sideloaded using this method , and are attained using a hacked version or already licensed version will not work . Perfect examples of this are LauncherPro and some others. WE have had many emails asking why LP doesnt' update when they have sideloaded from other sources. It's usually due to registration. Most apps can be updated , yes.

blaker2094 6 months ago
@blaker2094 One thing you need to remember when trying to install apps, is that you need to Google Search to find out if your carrier blocks the Side-Loading of apps. If this is the case, then you won't be able to install. ATT and T-Mobile both write the block code into the installer of the OS.
PluggedIn2010 6 months ago

@QBlackDeathQ As listed below in other things, please see the response to F3lixMjamjar. ATT is not supported as they dont' allow Side Loading of applications. it's in the comments. Sorry , but unless you have Root, adding applications on this method will not work. Enjoy!

Where would I put a game?
anth1165 7 months ago
@anth1165 at this point, installing games as a side load, is not something that we are much experienced on. I would check on the XDA forums for this type of information. Thanks.
PluggedIn2010 7 months ago
ok, so what f i have the APK on my computer (linux 11.04)and then want to put it on my HTC legend, how might i import the apps from the sd card (I connected as "disk drive" andd d copied the .apk over). i can get into the SD card.. :(
F3lixMjamjar 7 months ago
@F3lixMjamjar Ok first thing you need to make note of is if you are ATT customer, in this case : I'm guessing No since Legend was primarily GSM For Vodaphone and Virgin. If you are, stop reading (ATT customers) Their carrier doens't allow side-loading of Apps or APK, if you are able , download FileExplorer or Astro and then open using AppManager after browsing to the APK. You will need to make sure you Check UnAuthorized Apps in the Settings.
PluggedIn2010 7 months ago
Are .apk files universal? For example, would the google earth you installed on the evo work on the infuse?
mutekisenshi 8 months ago
@mutekisenshi To answer your question, yes in fact they are a universal packed format for Android developed by Google. You can open any APK using 7zip or WinRAR. But yes, if you xfer from EVO to Infuse, to GalaxyS and so forth, yes it will work. Android-Platform-Package File. -= APK ,
PluggedIn2010 7 months ago
i download the file then when i move it to my phone its not there on app installer
blazesam99 8 months ago
@blazesam99 Ok, fyi, you will need to find the apk file from where you downloaded it on the phone. Usually a utility like Astro or File Explorer will help you in this. See the notes above to get this from the market. You then will need to browse to the downloads area of your phone or SD card using the utility and then touch the apk you have dl'd. and then install. It will prompt for unknown sources unless you are ATT, which look below. Email if you have more issues : geektekneek@gmail.com

My computer doesn't recognize apk files.. help?
N0S0OP4U 9 months ago
@N0S0OP4U APK files can be opened by 7zip. Just download it from google, via search. APK files are not native to really any said OS, however in Linux they are easier to work with straight off the phone or market. Android SDK is a fundamental asset to really dig down type management of APK files. Use 7 Zip utility, free to do what you need with. FYI - Unless you are unpacking , modding the apk, it's not needed. Just xfer from PC to Device or vice versa.
Thanks!!

how come i dont hav that box, for unknown applications. i have the samsung captivate for at&t. does it not work for at&t or something???? please help
MrMysteriousperson12 9 months ago
@MrMysteriousperson12
ATT has a lock on unknown applications. They for some reason Service Provider Lock all their phones. This is evident on many of the other Android devices also. See some of my other videos and tutorials and you will see others who have this problem. Only way to bypass this would be to try a ROOT and then Flash with new ROM.
PluggedIn2010 9 months ago
@MrMysteriousperson12 See my post to KingEclipse1969 - Same problem - ATT blocks Side loading of apps.

MrCheesedogim 10 months ago
@MrCheesedogim So Ummm yeah, in your opinion yes, but let me put it this way. We have many people who are not "as technically ept" and need direction. Tutorials are to be thorough and informative. I would rather talk more than enough and cover the topics rather than skimp and leave a user clueless. Think about that next time.
PluggedIn2010 10 months ago
@BootuT - I'm not sure if it's possible, mainly as you will need some type of file explorer to actually install and located the file (APK in this case) that is stored on the SD or memory. Application manager by default will not just 'pick up' and 'find' the apk you downloaded and ask if you like to install it. Hope this helps, any other questions, post here or email us : geektekneek@gmail.com
PluggedIn2010 11 months ago

KinGEclipse1969 1 year ago
@KinGEclipse1969
Thanks.
PluggedIn2010 1 year ago
@KinGEclipse1969

PluggedIn2010 1 year ago
Please, oh pretty please... calm down with the sales-talk. Get to the point of the vid instead of talking excessively without any extra info. You could have made this into a 5 min video without cutting any info out of it. (or ads ... perhaps 7 mins with the ads)
