Sullivan Goon: "You will never play on Ed Sullivan again". Jim Morrison; "We just did". I love Morrison for not giving a fuck about any Authority or Consequences!. It suck he didn't clean himself up. Rest In Peace.
Alright guys, it's a movie we understand that this wasn't how it "went down", so before you get your pussy wet, movies make everything that actually happened more dramatic, if you haven't noticed, for your entertainment.
this is so stupid. not at all how it went down. and he didn't super emphasise the "higher". in the dressing room, jim just said "well, i'm not gunna change the lyric." and that was that. he sang it normal. this movie makes him look like some ridiculous drunk fucked up asshole. not the jim that really was.
WOW the women on 0:21 next to Jim Morrison actor her TITS ARE FUCKING HUGE AND SUPER ROUND YOU CAN EVEN NOTICE'S HER POINTY NIPPLES STICKING OUT OF YELLOW SHIRT! XD. But still i the actor playing as Jim is saying in his head "I wish I could suck her f***ing HUGE TITS!" Said The Actor Playing As Jim Morrison.
This movie is the biggest load of bullshit, they totally portrayed Morrison as something he wasnt, this scene is a great example of how much this movie fucking sucks.
well how uptight can you get.....don't say "higher".....oh wait I know let's all be politically correct instead. Everybody here's a straight jacket! Nothin has changed really....
It would've been cooler for The Doors to walk off Ed's set right then and there, without performing... but no, they disrespected their host in his own house. Just lame.
(And again - love the Doors. Would've been happy to have seen their full show, their way, on their own turf somewhere.) :-)
i love the doors and i love jim morrison but nothing cool about insulting your host for no reason. play by ed's rules in his own house, or go home. simple as that. no matter how dumb you think they may be. the rolling stones were truly cool. the doors have the right to their own kind of show... in their own venue somewhere. ed had the right to his family show, the way he wanted it.
@tygersflowerz He also had the right not to expect a rock group that features the lyrics, "Mother, I want to fuck you." Did he honestly expect them to play by the rules?
@lilburnmafia Ed was just booking the most popular artists for his show. If a group called the Dingleberries had the number one single at the time, he would've booked them. Do you think hosts of late night shows sit down with their musical guests' albums and listen to them back-to-back. They're just hosting a show.
@tygersflowerz Ed never asked them to not say it, he had never heard the song it was the network who said not to say it because they are government run systems and the government didnt want kids to hear the word high.
Jim Morrison was a champ and he didn't forget he knew... in real life they had rehearsal before and they changed the lyric but when it came time to play live they said it anyway
Girl you can bite my wire. LOL! Good for him for not changing the lyrics. Ed Sullivan seemed like a real dick and that spokeshole who asks The Doors to change their lyrics is such a brown-nose.
I'm sorry, but this is overacted. I've seen the Sullivan clip, and the way that Jim sang "Girl we couldn't get much higher" wasn't very different from the way he would normally sing it. In this, Kilmer pretty much screams it like a middle finger straight to the control booth. Sorry, but I prefer accuracy to Hollywood sensationalism any day.
@thewriter1008 I know it's completely inaccurate, but I find this version actually better (please don't kill me, let me explain). The reason is, it's more entertaining, honestly. It makes me laugh. I mean, you can see the band smiling at the line in the actual video, and knowing he wasn't supposed to say it does make it funny, but this makes for a better film. A lot of things in the film are like that - inaccurate, but more entertaining. That's why I like the film, actually.
I absolutely love how Jim looks straight into the camera as he sings that lyric, but I saw the original performance and Jim just kept his eyes closed most of the song. I still adore Jim for still singing it though.
@YouKnowWho2112 The stones changed the song "Let's spend the Night together" to "Let's spend some time together." and at 2:45 they show his bulge......(It didn't happen on the real show.)
I'm sure the Doors could really give a shit that they could never play Sullivan again; a classic example of the paternalistic plastic America of the 50s and early 60s giving way to free expression and the final destruction of paternalism and male aggression as the be-all/end-all of civilization; thank God we now live in 2011 with feminine and homosexual/pansexual paradigms rising and nihilistc/masculine/aggressive/war-mongering paradigms of the past being finally relegated to history's trash bin
@malevich2007 2011 is not a year we should be grateful for being in. Our music sucks, the style sucks, the economy sucks...ahh! I think I'd rather be in the 60's. Then again, it's all a matter of personal opinion.
The 'higher' part was exagerated but it made me giggle. I'm too scared to watch the movie because it make be really shitty and Jim was to great to fuck up.
What i hate about this movie is that it's exactly what people expect. I worked as a news journalist in New York in the seventies. Naturally I met a lot of other journalists and I can remember one of them who worked for Rolling Stone. He told me about a Doors interview he did. Apparently Jim seemed very normal. Definitely not this spaced out weirdo Val Kilmer and Oliver Stone created.
Okay. To me the best part of this whole ed sully's show fiasco was when they told the Doors that they were never going to do his show again. JIM: That's okay we did it already. LMAO.
This clip is hilarious but I seriously doubt that t.v. producers asked a professional rock band to change a crucial, rhyhming lyric, 5 minutes before going on the air.
No band is talented enough to do that, even if they were willing.
@asasassify Clearly you know nothing about songwriting. The word they were asked to replace was not just "a word." It was a crucial rhyming word, that came right before the chorus. Altering it would require changing the whole damn song. You can't fix that shit in 5 minutes....
they were trying to get the point across that him saying that was a big deal, thats why they over exaggerated it, they knew thats not how the original performance was.
The way they exaggerated "higher" is so lame. Original performance is much better. Jim was just looking to sing the song his way, not to purposely piss people off.
Ironic how the actor playing the network executive calls Jim a "little shit" over singing the word higher.
this movie it`s a crap, Jim say that piece of the song in a normal way...I Think they should to make a new movie based on a true story not that shit and with other actors....
@lalbruiz Well, If you know at least SOMETHING about Jim Morrison, you'll probably know that he had an IQ of 149, so he didn't forget just ''something'', like a lyric
@uitje1 Wow. you must be a fucking genius....I feel ashamed since compared to you, my knowledge is near zero....at least have better things to do than dream of giving Morrison a bj, as you seem to be dying for...again go fuck yourself and write anything you like, like I care anymore.
@uitje1 i suppose if you're going to use someone's IQ to prove something, you should now that a person's IQ doesn't effect their long term memory very much
@MrHeitz17 Manzarek insists that the band instantly, unanimously agreed not to change the lyrics and lied to the producers. He also did not put any more emphasis on "higher".
The Sullivan Show asked him not to say "higher" cause it insinuated drugs...this is a true story! Jim sang it the way the song was written and Ed Sullivan said the Doors were banned forever - they never came back and Jim could care less!!!

On the real video, you can clearly see him grinning after Jim said the word. I'm sure they all agreed to say it. Ed Sullivan was a prick anyways and they didn't need his show.
Jim Morrison is the best ever end of story.....Hollywood made him like a bad guy with this movie..... but he will always be great and will always be remembered. Long Live The Lizard King!!!!!
this movie is a false image of the doors and jim morrison. he wasnt an asshole and sang the word higher loud and looking into the camera. he sang it as if he just forgot not to say "higher." dumb movie. wanna see a great movie? watch the doors documentary, "when you're strange."
@oBL1TZKRIEGo yes but why the need to exagerate the doors career it was already an amazing story as it was. if u want to watch a real doors movie watch when youre strange
This movies is so stupid and overblown.

In the real performance, Jim didn't add any extra emphasize on "higher' like in the film. They sure exaggerated that.

Jim Morrison is the best ever end of story.....Hollywood made him like a bad guy with this movie..... but he will always be great and will always be remembered. Long Live The Lizard King!!!!!

That's not true, Jim was a great man with a little problem: He was to awesome for his time.

this movie is a false image of the doors and jim morrison. he wasnt an asshole and sang the word higher loud and looking into the camera. he sang it as if he just forgot not to say "higher." dumb movie. wanna see a great movie? watch the doors documentary, "when you're strange."

well, this is the movie, not a documentary, they needed to do it up a little. and it is pretty reliable story in general.

@oBL1TZKRIEGo yes but why the need to exagerate the doors career it was already an amazing story as it was. if u want to watch a real doors movie watch when youre strange

It's just a word Jim. Stones changed when they played here...

Lol he said "higher" because he was nervous, not to be an ass. Talk about over exaggeration.
