@guatahala i don't feel that anyone has the right to take spawning salmon from streams: not native nor non-native fisherman. fisheries laws are supposed to protect fish from this sort of unethical poaching. the fish meat isn't even any good by this point in its lifecycle. the poacher cuts the eggs out of it and throws the carcass away. the eggs are then sold for profit. how is this different from commercial fishing? it's certainly not subsistence fishing.

My dad, who is 50% Ojibwa was enlisting in the army when this happened. When he saw this on TV he just had one more test to do until he was accepted for BMQ (Basic Military Qualification aka boot camp). The next day he walked into the recruiting office, asked for his application and tore it to pieces. He told the recruiter "Oka Motherfucker" and walked out. My dad, who is 50% Ojibwa was enlisting in the army when this happened. When he saw this on TV he just had one more test to do until he was accepted for BMQ (Basic Military Qualification aka boot camp). The next day he walked into the recruiting office, asked for his application and tore it to pieces. He told the recruiter "Oka Motherfucker" and walked out. I don't understand how it is implying any kind of negativity towards the native population. Defiance isn't necessarily negative. And, I would say that it's a pretty accurate description concerning what the video is showcasing.
And, let me say, the video's submitter didn't even insinuate any leanings toward either side of this predicament.

its just the truth. they WERE being defiant. you wouldnt call someone who puts themselves in direct confrontation with the government, police, army, etc. a "law-abiding citizen" would you?
