My tank looks really strange because when I buy soft corals, they come on little pieces of rock, are all of ur corals built on the main base rock or rock which the corals came with?
Ganzel, do you perform your water changes from the sump? I am apprehensive to put coral close to the top as you have done due to the brief time they will be out of water when doing a water change.
@jcarlilesiu I do it from the sump and from the main tank, corals can last at least half an hour without water covering them totally. Just close your lights if you have big metal halide. Softies and lps cope better with lack of water than sps... My hydno burnt a bit and the top out of water did died... So be careful...
can i keep acroporas 16 inch below water level? ive 20k mh mounted above 10 inchs from the level. my tank lengh is 48 inch height 24 inch depth 18 inch ive 2 mh 150 watt with 2 actinic blue.
@sdinh1985 is it red slime algae its actually cyanobacteria it comes to a tank due to DOC. make sure your skimmer is working fine or nor and check water flow also.
@tonytennis it shoud do no harm, just make sure the hammer's heads don't shrink too much... My orange clowns have been living in my frogspawn for more than a year without any signs of damage...
@ganael heyy thanks for your reply i recently bought a clove polyp and a jewel coral how do i take care of it? my nitrate is undetectable by API Kit ph 8.1 KH 10 calcium 480 mag 1500 approxx
@tonytennis I'm not really sure what you mean by jewel coral, never heard of it... Is it another name for hammerhead or frogspawn? or is it some kind of goniopora?
@sounduser I used them for a year and stopped for the 2nd year, I did not see any difference. I've been told the phytoplankton we buy from reefshops is almost always dead or rotten... I used marine snow and coral snow and never seen a visible improvement in corals color or growth. I honestly think you can feed your corals once in a while with some powder food and they will be more than ok. Parameter stability is the most important thing for your tank to thrive...
@ganzel---Do u glue up ur corals on the back glasspane? How are ur SPS growing under 20000k lights.?.coz i find mine is growing pretty slow under 20000kelvin MHs...
@finger11yo those are ok values, just let it go a bit down naturally, just stop adding calcium/kalk and alk for a bit. But really, there is nothing to panic about with those numbers...
@tonytennis No clue, but skimmer is a big part of your system and you should buy a well know/established brand. Again, reefcentral's reviews are your friends !
@RaffleReefer10 6 gallons nanos and accros or birdnest are not a really good idea in my opinion, they are in the hardest corals to keep. I'd start with some zoos, or some GSP, or some xenia and make it live for more than a year before I'd try to put a sps piece.
@tonytennis hey Tony, I've never tried them, I would go on reefcentral or reefkeeping forums and take a look at comments on the specific unit you want to buy. I know Bubble King and Deltec are making good ones. Mine (reeflo) is good buy noisy.
@ganael Dear Ganzel can i use lab grade calcium hydroxide to buffer alkalinity and calcium? its tough to get the branded ones here. ive 2.5 alkalinity can i raise it tii 3.5 by dosing sodium by carbonate and afterwards maintain with kalkwassser?
@tonytennis I've heard people doing this, again, look on reefcentral forum for more infos on the subject. I only use certified reef chemicals so I don't have to bother with this. It's a bit more expensive but keeps my mind at peace ;)
First off being a reefer myself this tank is MAZING!! i do have some questions what are the lights in the begining where do you place your powerheads and how often do u feed your corals?
@GraffitiCraft the lights in the beginning are just my hamilton 400 watts 14 000 k warming up. They start yellow-green (8000k-10000k) and than switch to blue-ish (20000k) to then stabilize around white at 14000k. They are lit by lumatek digital ballasts. The powerheads info are in my "info" section just below the video itself. I feed my corals twice a week, 1x daytime 1x nighttime, a mix of reefroids, cyclopeez and phyto/zoo powder.
@ganael I appreciate it man. Very nice tank by the way. If u like that, u might like The Avalanches. Love the video also. Genius! Gives us all something to strive for. Thanks for the reply.
