  • i plan on using it.I have PTSD and anxiety disorders.I also have straightening of the spine and lumbar facet syndrome(lower back pain) related to military service.I know it helps a lot.Its just that i live in puerto rico and its illegal.

  • I really hope this is a generational issue that will pass with time and brainwashed old voters passing away...don't judge me. I'm sure people in their twenties in the 70's were saying that same thing but there were no dispensaries or internet!!! You can only hide the truth for so long and it's been almost four generations since it was federally declared illegal in 1937 so...Ah, shit, they probably have just as much if not more anti-marijuana propaganda in the school system now as they did then.

  • If you are against marijuana legalization you have been brainwashed and are ignorant. There is no opinion to this. The government has lied to our country far too long in the interest of money, race, and fear. There seems to be a common sense block that appears when marijuana is brought up. If we can kill ourselves with cheeseburgers, cigarretes, alcohol, tanning beds and prescription medicines, then why can't we relax by smoking plant residue that is literally incapable of causing harm?

  • @PeyotePaul You make a good point about the government lying to the people because of special interest groups and a case can be made with tobacco, alcohol and pharmaceutical companies distributing millions of dollars to PDFA (Partnership For A Drug Free America) which is the non-profit organization responsible for the anti-cannabis commercials seen on TV. You probably can't brew beer or make vicodin in your basement but you can damn sure grow a plant and there isn't anyone to profit on that!

  • Wow most of the comments here are completely idiotic- they do not have to condone use of drugs to say people should not be arrested for using them... Not everyone was born 20 years ago either, the amount of rhetoric against marijuana has been going around a long time, many people honestly did not know the war on drugs was problematic- infact it took people to enforce to PROVE how stupid it is.

  • @DaithiDublin

Haha yea that's true. I still think it would've been better to not bring it up at all, but I agree with you other than that.

  • Fuck this. I'm all for legalization but, A) this was an absolutely terrible speech. B) Why didn't he say these things when he was an actual police chief. C) You don't endorse or condone marijuana use? Than what the fuck stance are you taking? Shit, even if you condone use, why even bring that up in a fucking legislative speech? It makes it look like LEAP has no idea what they're talking about.

I watched this video hoping for another step forward, but sadly, it's nothing of the sort.

  • @fWo There are plenty of law enforcers who do not drink alcohol. They are not fighting to ban it either. The point this former officer is making is that the use of marijuana, either recreationally or medically, should not fall under the remit of law enforcement. That is the point of legalisation. Which would you think would have a greater impact on the committee, this soberly delivered statement or a giggling red-eyed stoner?

(and before you freak out: I'd be in the second category!)

  • @DaithiDublin

Whether you condone or condemn marijuana use, but still support legalization, is anyone's choice. And either way doesn't matter when the end goal is the same.

The only problem I have is that he brought up his opinion about use at all. In this ridiculous state of American government/politics, the smallest problem in someone's speech is made into a big problem. Imo, he either shouldn't've brought it up at all, or just said he didn't care if someone used it at all.

  • @fWo It isn't necessarily his personal opinion. This may be LEAP policy because I've heard the same thing from several speakers, including Neil Franklin. I *do* get where you're coming from, but I think the angle aims to disarm the easily worried. LEAP don't condone drug use, they simply assert that the prohibition model is totally flawed and another tactic need to be taken. And BTW they're aiming to legalise ALL drugs. I wouldn't expect them to advocate for heroin or crack any time soon!

  • @DaithiDublin

And btw, it's not the biggest problem. That's why it's letter 'C.' :p

  • @DaithiDublin "Or a giggling red-eyed stoner"

I wouldn't mind seeing more people ADMIT to enjoying a spliff now and again.. then EVENTUALLY admiting to using it a lot

It wouldn't surpise me at all if a good chunk of leap are tokers..

But PERSONAL motivation is always frowned upon when it comes to this..

  • Why don't these guys do something when they actually had the power to do it? When this guy was a police chief, he could have easily set the policy of the police dept to prioritize his dept to violent crimes and such. Instead, he waits until he has no power, then gets a conscious.

  • Now, if these chicken sh*t pigs would just start speaking out BEFORE their "careers" are over then the country would be a much better place. It's hard to give up one of the best rackets on the planet, I guess.

  • I'm overjoyed to see more high ranking police officers joining leap. I am a recovering heroin addict and lets just say i don't have the best relationship with police but LEAP proves my police stereotypes wrong. Thanks leap i could not support what your doing more i am constantly telling people about whats going on and about your group.

  • Thank you.

  • It's kind of hard what you just did here. You went to the man and told said man that "the man has no business regulating something which gives them money".

  • One day the minds will change and face reallity

  • Legalize it!
