Mickey is a bar room singer straight up. Hence why his version is different than George's. Mickey is more Honky Tonk Country where as George is Traditional Country.
drank alot alot to this song it still touches me keep em coming on the ol songs they are classic...wished they make music like this today....tnx ...tmw52688
Listening to this version really shows why George Strait is a superstar. Gilley does a good job of singing this, but he doesn't have the same emotional intensity as Strait.
George always manages to get the feeling of the song accross without losing his cool.
@dragknuckle I second...Gilley makes this feel like a soft 80's love song, especially with the background vocals. George, especially with the Texas sound, makes it sound much more genuine, like he was speaking to you. I would've never had known Mickey did this (probably before George), because George makes it sound like his own.
Mickey was a country champagne singer. His music is so soothing and good feeling.

I take notice that Mickey Gilley didn't have the speaking part like George Strait's version did.

Not bad, but I think women would get off more on George Strait singing this song than Mickey Gilley.
