this scene is screwed! 1: eskil arns brother was no war man so he had nothing to do there! 2:arn basicly created a mounted army not foot soldiers. 3:he did die of a broken lance end that was inside him not a cut from some g@y danish guy ( no offence dp danish peapole i got family in denmark). in fact did Arn chop his head off in 1 strike!

One thing that complicates matters is that often times a side is portrayed and we are to side with them. This isn't Battle of Gestilren, this is Lena two years before. Longbows weren't used in that numbers at Gestilren, there is no prove of danish participation at Gestilren in the scenes following thoose in this video King Sverker isn't beeing slain, instead his life is spared. That were the case at Lena, he was killed at Gestilren. The battle of Gestilren were taking place in the summer, Lena at January 31st.
The army in blue is the "Westgoths" or members of the royal heir of Erik. Basically a heir based in Westsweden in the medieval ages. Their opponents in red and black is their rivals the heir of Sverker, based in East of sweden. They are also supported by the danish king, most of the heavy cavarly would prob be danish. The army in blue are in the middle of the clip added by some norweigeans.

@billkasperdotcom I think the focus of your disdain should be on the movie studios and distributors, rather than the "government-educated". There are plenty of great examples of subtltled foreign films that have had wide success in the states. It really comes down to movie industry not willing to stick their neck out, by offering the american audience something new. It is much easier for them to put out claptrap like Saw 15, 16 and 17, rather than something with some historical perspective.
@Hermoor It was better than holywood movies. The characters are well developed and the director paid attention to historical accuracy as far as the arms and armour go.
@Kingofsomething87 You might not realize it, but when a native swede watches Arn say..."listen...don't hesitate." As if he is some badass general. He sounds like a pussy, this is such a fake movie that tries to mimic movies like Gladiator and kingdom of heaven. But sadly the only thing one notices while watching this is how hard it tries to do that, but only looks and sounds fake.

I must say though, the character of Arn is a more respectable character than most of those created by holtwood. He is a brave warrior with noble attributes. He seeks peace but never seems to find. But thats just my opinion.

The army in blue is the "Westgoths" or members of the royal heir of Erik. Basically a heir based in Westsweden in the medieval ages. Their opponents in red and black is their rivals the heir of Sverker, based in East of sweden. They are also supported by the danish king, most of the heavy cavarly would prob be danish. The army in blue are in the middle of the clip added by some norweigeans.

@billkasperdotcom I think the focus of your disdain should be on the movie studios and distributors, rather than the "government-educated". There are plenty of great examples of subtltled foreign films that have had wide success in the states. It really comes down to movie industry not willing to stick their neck out, by offering the american audience something new. It is much easier for them to put out claptrap like Saw 15, 16 and 17, rather than something with some historical perspective.

@Hermoor It was better than holywood movies. The characters are well developed and the director paid attention to historical accuracy as far as the arms and armour go.

@Kingofsomething87 You might not realize it, but when a native swede watches Arn say..."listen...don't hesitate." As if he is some badass general. He sounds like a pussy, this is such a fake movie that tries to mimic movies like Gladiator and kingdom of heaven. But sadly the only thing one notices while watching this is how hard it tries to do that, but only looks and sounds fake.

@Hermoor Well I am not a Swede so I suppose I looked at the movie from a different perspective. I must say though, the character of Arn is a more respectable character than most of those created by holtwood. He is a brave warrior with noble attributes. He seeks peace but never seems to find. But thats just my opinion.
