  • I just got a sog flash 2 brand new, and right out of the box it had a crazy amount of blade play up and down and side to side... after 3 emails they finally emailed me back and i should be sending it in soon... I think blade play is just something normal in there spring assisted line.

  • I pretty much agree with you review..Not the first knife I would choose for EDC or even as an EDTac companion. I prefer higher traction plans on an EDTac companion.

The blade SOG delivers is an expensive pattern to grind and this certainly will add to the cost, however the liner-less Zytel handle should more than cancel that out.

Compared to your Spyderco Tenacious it looks like a poor buy.

Strange to crap on a blade so and then so love the ffg 2 oz ffg Aegis...IDK..It just works

    Peace

  • Is there a break in period with this knife? I ordered mine from amazon and got it yesterday, and am disappointed. Although the knife is very sharp, there was a lot of side-to-side blade play, and some horizontal play. I tightened up those mini torque screws or whatever and fixed the side to side play mostly, but now the blade comes out really slow, barely making it out on it's own. Not that it was ever fast to begin with...send it to SOG?

  • @crailberry Send it to SOG, absolutely.

  • a very deep cary is a good thing if, like me, you live somewhere where there are strong taboos against knives. people think its a pen or some shit.

  • I have a SOG Flash II.

  • Tanto means that the blade is hollow ground and the tip is flat ground.... thats the point. Its not advertised as a EDC knife tanto knifes are designed for defensive or militiary purpose, thats why they make both kinds :).

  • After owning two Aegis knives for 5-6 months (digi camo and black w/ straight edge black TiNi) i can confidently say two things 1. this blade is very comfortable to carry, if u grab by the pocket clip its easy to extract and is a very nice deployment. 2. the straight edge is going to be your best bet for edc

  • seth rogan?

  • can you tighten the blade if it has some back and forth play?

  • @couldbemeaningful That can help to reduce side to side play, but it won't do anything for front to back movement.

  • @TheLateBoyScout so you would do this by twisting the little screw on the side?

  • @couldbemeaningful Correct.

  • Could you please review the Gerber Profile?

  • @CutleryNovice If I can find somebody to loan me one, you bet.

  • @CutleryNovice BLUNTRUTH4U Reviews the profile

  • Yeah, that looks like an angry knife. I think it fits into someone's collection to finish a set or something, but EDC? Naw, not for me. There's some practicals on it though. The finish, in my experience, helps slow formation of rust. SOG does serrations well, IMO. I have a smaller SOG Tanto (Mini X-Ray). No liners=more side to side play. Re: clip, it's a matter of training; everyone learns to adapt to anything if they like it enough, you know? 2nd kind of cool is up there, agree? Thx

  • I recognized the QSB (quality silver bullion) intro jingle you picked up on this! I prefer the deep carry clip on my Flash 1 so I don't loose it as tactical or defense is not a priority for that sized knife. It seems the plain edge Flash II and the plain edge Aegis are very comparable. I suppose it is down to color options and finish preference. Thanks TLBS for a great review, love those talking points, cool graphics too! <(")

  • Those inserts in the handle are only glued in and will eventually come out. They are more like plastic than rubber. I contacted SOG when mine came out and they sent me a whole knew set that I had to glue in. They wouldn't take the knife back to do it. I used crazy glue.. it's holding so far. Also, I have the plain edge version (not tanto) and the blade is a bit fragile for my particular EDC tasks. Lots of edge rolling and chipping.

  • @Royalsfan55 Great input. Thanks for the comment.

  • Good review man, I gave my Aegis awey...

  • Doesn't do it for me either. Thanks for sticking it out with this review, and getting your opinion.

  • some youtuber said that the tanto tip half serrated knife would be called. untradeable. no one wants to trade for a tanto combo edge. funny. im getting back to the combo edges. a safety on a knife pisses me off. ive never had a blade pop open on me in my pocket. never. not yet anyway.lol. i like to see steel liners. because without them you get side to side wiggle. which sucks. if you cant adjust it out. i like to have a bit sticking out to grab. especially for a knife with a strong clip.

  • Sweet knife review sog assisted opener will alway's have some blade play to allow the blade to fly open.

  • I actually got a SOG Salute, and from your review I got more for my money with the Salute which is only $30. Full steel liners, lockback, TiNi finished blade, G10 handle scales, a 3.5" blade with a nice belly, plus adjustable thumb studs. It's not spring assisted but it's fast enough that it doesn't need it. CutleryLover has a review on it. Not a bad knife at all, and a great one for $30. lol

  • Sounds like SOG made a "poor man's Tactical" knife, for street defense, not combat.

  • Nice!, great intro tunes, the grip ruins ur pants not ur hand lol, nice info pro and cons, but yer not for me as an edc, maybe for the Tactical vest, thanks for the great vid TLBS keep them coming!! take care.

  • Dammit, I hate when people make me want to buy things. great review

  • i would love to get a sog but as most people say they are overpriced for aus8 steel, you can get a spydie or kershaw for the same price with far superior construction, however i love the overall look of sog's product, i want a twitch xl

  • i have the digi camo drop point one. its so hard to extract. but that makes it good when i go running. it certainly wont get lost

  • Cool review! I have felt that the SOG brand name in general is over priced. Don't get me wrong. SOG makes decent stuff, just not decent enough, for what they ask for them. Put "Tactical" in the name or description of anything and you can expect to pay double what its worth, lowering its actual value. Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work and keep sharing the knowledge!!!

  • @jsh1284 I'd take that Ak-47 over this Aegis any day!

  • I dk I'd like the liners 2

  • I agree Sog are overprice. For $60ish I rather get a Spyderco. Good review!

  • Great review! I have the FFG version in digi camo...it is an overpriced blade.

  • @DocTacDad ...but good looking and fun to play with. :)

  • IMO, 60$ is too much for AUS8... Nice review LBS...

  • @TheSmokinApe your not payin for the blade, your paying for the little "sog" on the knife.

  • Nice review dude. - FD

  • Cool, I would have to agree that $60 is a little high.

  • arc lock

  • I was considering buying the digital camo version of the Aegis. Dig the black blades. I agree, I would not purchase the tanto version of the blade. Boooo on the safety. I would locktite it. The steel is one of the main reasons I didn't purchase the blade. For what I had in mind I didn't like the AUS8 steel (at least from what I've heard about the rusting). Oh and by the way, killer intro.

  • @Cr0cket20 Yep. My CS Recon Tanto, also AUS 8, does come back with rust spots after I take it outdoors. Even if the exposure is minimal, and limited to wood processing, the metal will rust. Holds, and takes an awesome edge though. Trade-offs.

  • Axis lock?

  • mmmmmm ... Tanto

  • @ZombieTactics Homer...?

  • Awesome knife! =)
