  • people see this and think it's nerdy or whatever, but every guy secretly wishes they had a sword so they could do this lol! besides it's not like they are LARPing. they are practicing the real thing based on historic evidence. looks really interesting and fun :)

  • Looooooool such neeks

  • hi talanvelc.

i love sword combat too, i am in an italian group that practice it. we start to study flos deuellatorum code and we end studying viking tecnics.

i think could you make a video about the use of runes as strikes positions. it would be pretty funny and interesting :D.

    regards

    Bjorn

  • Very well done! This is a good demonstration of the basics to fighting with a sword and viking shield. Especially the part at the end where the guy in brown takes the hand/ forearm shot.

  • sexy voice at 1:12

and also the shield is almost as tall as the arab on the right

  • @Emanusmell obviously not an arab, not even the role he plays, because an arab would be fucked immediately.

  • @Emanusmell

    It's not an arab, it's an Rus-Viking.

  • this is gay i wanted cool shit

  • @kingovviking This is a walkthrough demo at a museum festival. It's not all smashing and bashing and sexed-up violence.

On the other hand, this is legitimate European armed martial arts, so you can certainly learn something here.

  • Vikings raaaarely used hammers, they were to heavy and to much of a burden on people who lived in such harsh conditions swords long axes spears and the occasional bow were in the usual Viking arsenal actually some Vikings went into battle bare handed with remarkable success.

  • @BAMF5550123

Hi, You said " ...actually some Vikings went into battle bare handed with remarkable success."

I find this hard to believe. Vikings were all armed with swords. If not then a battle axe or at least a spear....all with the complimentary shield.

How have you come by this information that some went into combat with no armaments at all??

  • @depoty Actually its highly unlikely that most vikings used swords since they were very expensive and valuable. The vast majority used spears and many used axes which would be readily available tools.

It is possible that some didn't use weapons but that's because they probably had their arms full of loot :p

  • @IIGECKOII

LOL..at the "...arms full of loot" yeah thats the bottom line, vikings took no prisoners but they did take everything else. They would just lop ya head off and rape ya missus...or the other way around.

  • @depoty Roll in with the fog, roll out with the women!

  • @depoty Only rich or noble vikings had swords, the normal folk used axes, spears and saxes

  • @Torgrim04

I believe that an ' Ulfberht ' was the best sword a Viking could have, it was the Colt Python of swords. There were even many forgeries/copies made in Viking times too and sold as Ulfberht's. Indeed they were expensive and a good Ulfberht sword boasted a Vikings status amongst the rest of the clan. Vikings also used to give their swords effectionate names and were often buried with them...a sword was part of the family...lol

  • @depoty I think BAMF maybe got confused. There are reports of Nord's defeating an armed opponent, with out a weapon, however, it would be one to one, and usually, the viking had discarded his weapon to throw his opponent-they where very into wrestling-and then finish him, or if it was an assasination attempt and he was unprepared. But you are perfectly right, not into full on battle unarmed.

  • one thing i know that vikings dont debate on the heat of battle if their gonna loose an eye or a leg

  • Totally ruined by the cars in the background...

  • @IdleBigots

Yes it totally spoils the scene

  • Concentratieprobleem, fantastic oxymoron there 'big minority'.

  • Ace, keep in mind the Franks werent Gaulish, they just conquered Gaul and renamed it France. Youre very right in noting their use of the axe though. The Francessca! Hence the name of the people & nation.

  • well regardless alot of ppl of norse descent live in america and have just as much pride in their ancestors fighting prowness as the european fighters doing this

  • most of a icelandic vikings had a sword axe not hammers i have heard , one guy in icelandic vikings history had a big and heavy axe and haven't swing at no one whitout killed him and the axe named Rimmugýgur. they didn't mostly use bows just spears

  • when are we gonna learn ?

this is a european thing, not american

  • dude, most americans come from europe originally... and even native americans had their own kind of martial arts... their own weapons, etc... its a very american thing.

  • i don't agree with a very american thing, but aye, thats just my point of view.

    no offence

  • Anyone add me if they're interested, or know a lot about different warriors and ways of life and even martial arts. thanks

~WARRIORS UNITE!~ btw this video was a little dry

  • Actually, it seems you don't know much about swords. If you block the lunge or swing at your head with your sword, you are still at ground zero, and you are at the disadvantage as it is harder to block physically the higher blow. However, if you use the shield, you can make that lunge go wide, leaving the opponent open to your ready and waiting sword.

  • masters of talk )))

  • the vikings didnt nomaly use swords mostly axes

  • Vikings NORMALLY used swords, but while the sword was the Vikings warrior's prized possession, the weapon identified most closely with him was the battle-axe. The Vikings were the only fighters across Europe to use an axe. There were two types; one that could be thrown and one that was wielded by the warrior. The latter was quite heavy and had a handle up to 1.5 metres long.

  • It's true that not every viking had a sword since of the 100+ weapons found in Viking age pagan burials in Iceland, only 16 are swords. I guess it would be better to say that not every viking was wealthy enough to own a sword.

  • as far as i know the sword was to expensive for normal vikings so the y used spears or axes becyese these could also be used in the house hold. The spear for hunting and the axe fo wood cutting and most of them didnt have the money to buy their own weapon just made for war.

  • Approximately 15% used swords.Axes were the most popular because of cost, but swords were treasured and handed down from father to son.

  • Vikings weren't the only one to use axes. The gaulish franks and germanics were the first to use th axe intensivly during the roman conquest of europe.

  • vikings didn't have standardised weaponry; they just used whatever they had. Swords cost way too much for every man on a raiding party to use. Spears were dominant as they are cheapest to make. Axes would come second as it serves as well as a weapon as a tool.

  • You're forgetting spears, bills, sax' (translation to retards: fighting kife), daneaxes, etc

True a sword was very expensive back then, but a big minority had it...

  • The sword was the mark of a rich viking. they very rarely had swords. They usually used hammers, axes, and spears.

  • You´re right :)

  • nice. a literal dis-arm!
