she's skating very well here, but it's really hard to tell how well she'll really be in the future.
many young skaters easily pull off jumps and spins with difficult positions because they have not hit puberty yet. it is so much easier to jump when you are light, skinny, short and have no hips - attributed to a better center of gravity. greater degree of flexibility too because their bone structure still hasn't changed.
give them a few years until they hit puberty and start growing, you/ll see.
Wonderful! When people label her as a prodigy, though, I can't help but compare her to Mao and Yu-Na when they were 13. Adelina is really strong, but her posture is not good at all sometimes, and her movements are far from smooth. Now, I'm not saying she isn't amazing for her age, but comparing her to how Mao and Yu-Na were then, well, she's just missing something.

I can't believe she was just 12. She is amazing. I hope she doesn't get injured because she has something incredibly special. Such technique, such extension, such good lines, and so much expression! And she's so fast. Gold at Sochi?
amazing! great flexibility, super turns, beautiful jumps and very graceful dancing! definately very talented girl! what´s more, soo beautiful outfit! :)))
her lines are just lovely, a true Russian Ballerina. perfect dress for this music too!
She needs to work on the exits to her jumps (she tends to pitch forward and lose speed and GOE) and really selling her chreography past the boards, but what potential!
I do not believe so. I think they just waves off the age requirements. It is the same thing they did in gymnastics where a 14 y.o. won the national title.
Yes, and no. The definitions of "senior" differ for: (1) local/national competitions; (2) ISU competitions; and (3) the Olympics.
Mao Asada has been competing in Japanese (senior) Nationals since she was 12 or so, and began skated in senior ISU events a couple of seasons later in the 2005-6 season, when she was 14 (at the time stipulated) and was thus too young to compete in Torino in 2006.
Because it's easier to get your hip and shoulders around on jumps where the rotation is blocked (not as wide as some bigger skaters).
It's easier to pull your legs and arms in (not as long limbs).
And because of those points it's usually easier to rotate. Also, their center of gravity is lower than a taller skater, so it's easier for them to make corrections (i.e. tilting a little in the air) on landings to be successful.
They also weigh less. Unseemingly, but those kids are strong :P
I see an improvement in technique from last year's championships! She just needs to develop her own style. Interesting also that she got 1st despite the fall. We need some more progress in current Russian figure skating, so it can own up to the quality of the skaters from Japan, Korea, and the US. However, it is good that Adelina is doing the same that Zhang and Nagasu were doing at her age. We'll see what happens when she is older and whether she can maintain her consistency,
Wooow!... She's definitely the new Russian skating star. I can hardly believe she's only 12 and is skating like this. Beatiful extension, nice speed, beatiful and well centered spins, nice interpretation. She's got the whole package. Can't wait to see her at the top of the sport in 2014. Congrats, Adelina! Super well deserved ;D!!!!

She is great especially on flexibility. But I see flutz on her Lutz similar to Mao Asada. She'd better correct now before she gets old.
paperjuly 2 years ago
I think it's a lutz!! She goes to slight outside edge!!
She's brilliant though! She can do 3Lz+3Lo similar to Mao Asada when she was young!!
I'm hoping she will be amazing by she's 17 for the 2014 Olympics!!

how tall is she and how come tiny skaters
like her can jump so much better than
skaters that are 5'2" to 5'4"? Also,is she
a senior skater in Russia?

she's a junior skater...she's only 12!! wow
