  • you suck\

  • barb and donny are part of my family. Amy, Kim, And olive are my cousins. They are the best family i know and im not just saying that. THEY DESERVE THIS

  • I live in California and am horrified at the states recent inablility to repeal the marriage ban!

This is an honest and beautiful reason why we ARE all equal- equality now!

  • Barbie (the woman in the commercial) is my second cousin, and I just want to say that I think it's amazing she did this commercial, it makes me so happy and I always love seeing her at family parties in our conservative family with petitions, trying to get rights for her daughter. So basically, fuck yeah, my family is awesome and everyone should support giving my cousin her rights!

  • NY has to get on track. We need more poignant ads, though. This is a good start but we need to hit at the heartstrings. Logic doesn't work.

  • luckily is STRAIGHT people having gay children then yeah???? think before you speak ou ignorant uneducated imbecile. The word is changing and i think the rights of gay marriage should change with it!!! I AM NOT GAY, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE GAY MARRIAGE BECOME LEGAL!!!

  • Everyone needs to see this. Finally someone is making sense.

  • LETS GO NYS!!!!! the vote passed in the house....hopefully the senate as well!!!!

  • I agree with ziv...these types of ads didn't work in California...what about an ad with the woman who vacationed in florida with her lesbian lover and three children, who had legal power of attorney and a health care proxy, but the floridia hospital denied her and their three children from being at her lovers side, and the woman died in a hospital room ALONE!! That's a story that needs to be told!

  • Thank-you Bob and Don for sharing your story. I hope this inspires other families like yours to do the same.

  • crappy spot. afraid to show real same sex couples telling their own stories? you'd think you would have learned from california's mistake in their ads by now. show real people in committed relationships with or without their kids, not from their parents or other people not living the life. this is the worst load of crap in trying to communicate the lives of real people. my grade, D.

  • I would be inclined to agree with redspin, but homosexuals are a rather hated minority. The message would only be reaching their supporters, and conservatives would see it as a threat. This type of appeal to emotion, underplaying the homosexual aspect and focusing on the family as a whole, is much more effective as an emotional appeal.

  • see the problem is that civil unions and marriages do not provide the same rights to all couples.

some of the rights denied with civil unions are...

    1) Joint parental rights of children

    2) Joint adoption

    3) Status as "next-of-kin" for hospital visits and medical decisions

    4) Right to make a decision about the disposal of loved ones remains

    5) Immigration and residency for partners from other countries

this is just a short excerpt from a very long list.

  • Equality for New York =)

  • Being decent human beings:

The couple in this video are doing it right.

  • no this is what people should see, not that crap from NOM, this is a story about love and about how the laws at they stand hurt people. Thank you for doing this

  • very moving. Thanks.

  • here comes my tears....

  • Lovely ad. I hope little Olive gets to be in her Mommies' wedding soon!

  • Excellent ad. Someday I'll be able to marry in South Carolina...soon my family will be able to marry in New York.

  • Thank you for this video.

  • EQUALITY FOR ALL IT MUST AND WILL COME.

  • Liberty & Equality for ALL New Yorkers!

  • Yes, it would have been better if Amy was with her parents instead of only photos. She'd feel more like a real person.

  • wait, where's the rambling cliches, scary music, fake people, and brown clouds?

unless you wanna push the LOVE, REALITY, and HUMANITY angle!

    those parents are adorable!

  • Thank you! Excellent. I have passed it on to many people via twitter and facebook.

  • God Bless you: I have a gay family member and I want that person to be able to live in a fair and equal world.

  • This ad is awesome! Well done and yay Barb and Don from Cicero!

  • I love, love, love this ad. Bravo, bravo!

  • Uh, ziv, it does show the gay couple. They're in a photo, but there there. And they are central to the story the parents are telling.

I'd not want this to be the only ad, but its excellent, IMO, at showing that gay adults come from and stay connected to straight parents & siblings.

  • I can post the link to Facebook, and the link does jump to the correct video, but it won't show up as a video in FB. Hope you can fix that.

    Its a GREAT ad!

  • This is a great way to counter those who argue that same-sex marriage will somehow undermine heterosexual marriage. It shows how same-sex couples want to marry for much the same reasons as anyone else and how same-sex marriage and opposite-sex marriage are not competing, but are rather based upon the same values of love and commitment.

  • Another ad that doesn't show gays. It didn't work in California why would it work in NY? Show gay people in pro-gay ads, dah...

  • ziv5000, I find this ad to be more effective than the Thorons ad from CA last year. What I like about this ad is the comparison of two siblings who are different in sexual orientation but otherwise are the same and should be treated thus, and I especially liked how this ad carries a more potent human element, including how the daughter wants her parents to get married, as well as how there's an overlying sense of acceptance and happiness above and beyond tolerance and seriousness.

  • This ad shows who the real pro-family, pro-marriage groups are.

  • Nice.

  • I think the """ in the title are making it impossible to share it on facebook, could you please correct that?

    Great, great ad, great work!
