That guy is a crow himself (methaphorically). Thats why it looks like he's stabbing himself because it hurts him that he has to eat crows to survive.

Though him eating crows is probably also a methaphor for people killing each other. because crows eat dead people and nows it's the reverse. When you think about it it doesn't make sense that a guy would hunt crows to eat.
