I have some reasons that make me believe that the Cello Suites were originally written for lute and arranged after Bach's death.

1. There exists no surviving score in Bach's handwriting.

2. The suites were not discovered until over 100 years after his death.

3. Bach was known as a lute player more than a cello player.

4. There are many other works, such as the 3rd violin partita, which are also lute suites.

5. It would have made more sense to write for the lute at that time.

@unnoticedpasserby That is not rude in the slightest. I think that it being music it can be interperated in different ways depending on their personality and moods. I'm not using this as my wedding song any longer, because my perception of it has changed. I was also going to just use this song since I love the cello and it is sooo beautiful in this song.

I can play this piece on Piano I remember Last year I had my first Solo Concert and I played Prelude no.1 By J.S.Bach on piano I was Really nervous but in the end All the people who was There, Totally like it. I was So happy after that.:D Anyways I just wanna say That I Really LOVE this melody It's such a Wonderful Piece :D and it also sound really nice on Cello :D

i found the cello teacher in the music school playing this, i came from violin practice and i heard it, so i followed it and for some reason... he likes to play in the dark...weird teacher... =))

@gabbie363 I'm not sure if someone else beat me to it, but it seems playing in the dark isn't all that weird (that is, if your a musical student...^.^;;). I play the flute myself, but my band director told us if we play in the dark, it somehow makes us listen more to our instrument. As in listening to the tone etc. >w> So, yush.

@DepressedFox By cutting out your sense of vision, your other senses become more responsive. It's an instinctive "reflex" and response to suivival. Whereas its temporary "reflex" to us, It's alot more common to permantly improve those senses in the wild as you probably know with bats : They can't see very well due to the dark and as a result there other senses (such as hearing) have become better.

@gabbie363 I practise in the dark. The only reason I can personally say it's better is because without nothing to see, your ears become more responsive and you can hear things better, and therefore focus on it :)

After I heard this piece, I give props to this instrument. Shimizu was really cool, when he decided to change his original cello to a baroque cello, to suite his playing during the concurs and when he played for Hino in the church, in the special episode. I wish I can be that romantic and do something like that for a special girl in the future. I'm planning on it hahahah. I play the piano though. None the less, the Cello is such a cool instrument.
