I'm glad all you people believe that Detroit can be a great place again; my hope is the same too. My husband works at a casino in Detroit and he says the city has a very long way to go before it will come even close to being mediocre.
It does have potential, a great location, and now, thanks to the burning of entire blocks, a ton of areas that could become new neighborhoods or parks.
None of this will happen until the mindset of Detroit residents change. It is still very ghetto in every way.
but what about the dead bodies, belle isle, the people that sleep in the allies and under bridges, and what about the people that hang out at the on and off ramps at 75 and 8 mile, and the building that are burnt down or the houses, and what about all the over growth just about everywhere you look?
I live in LA, I hate it, Detroit has the strategic potential to become the next San Francisco which is a city that was not always so nice. If a person studys geography, history, and real economics they will find that detroit and Michigan are or should be in the top 5 areas of the nation to locate and live a nice life at a reasonable price.
I plan on moving to MI and investing in Detroit soon.
Remember this folks, there are good and bad parts of every city. Try going to the southwest side of Chicago and see what you run in to. I live in a small town on the Illinois/Wisconsin border of 20,000 people and I won't walk the streets at night. Unfortunately, the people make the city. The governing officials have to work with what the people give them. Detroit like any city could be a beautiful place, and downtown is. Just like downtown Chicago or in the case of where I live downtown Zion.

Detroit will come back. It's already starting to. It will regain its place as one of the great American cities.

Brings back memories of great visits to a wonderful city. I am in Belfast, Ireland, but just love the spirit of this city!

I'll add this: in a way, this is sad. I've never seen such a large, impressive downtown with so few people.

When I was a kid we used to visit Detroit, Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. What a beautiful video!
