I was a kid myself when I saw this movie for the first time. This moment as remained with me all these years. What a wonderful pleasure to see it again. Thank you so much for posting it.
I love 'The Eddy Duchin Story' because at a very early age of 4 I was introduced to Ty by my Dad. My Dad has the album from this movie musical. One day Dad said, lets get out the Spring music. So I go to our front hall closet. I begin taking one by one out, of course Dad was there to supervise me. We then came across this Album with Tyrone Power & Kim Novak on the front cover. I said Dad who is this on the cover? It was then explained. I asked if we could play the album? The rest is history!
Powers was one of the great actors and this movie was a fine movie. Though it is recorded that Peter Duchin stated that hollywood took to many liberties wih the facts of the movie. But had nothing to do with the acting or the beautiful music.
Tyrone Power's actor father Tyrone P. can be seen in his first and last movie, The Big Trail on Youtube. He played the bull whacker, Red Flack. John Wayne is in this movie. Tyrone died of a heart attack in his 17 year old son's arms in 1931.
This movie I saw as a child, I loved it and always makes me mourn,, besides that reminds me of my sister (RIP), and she took me to see her, also had the long play, and I always remember,, one day buy it, but, give one, he never returned my thanks to youtube, I remember some nice scenes as the final, thanks for uploading,, affection excuse my English,, pero I'm Chilean
parents took me and my 8 year old brother to see the premier of this movie at Rockefeller Center in NYC the summer of '56 when I was 12. We also saw the Rockettes that evening. I remember the movie well, especially the sad dying scene at the end. We were driving from Ohio to Cape Cod for a family vacation. I'm now 66, and that summer of '56 was the one and only time I've been to New York.
what a wonderful movie. this is the kind of movie that makes you feel good inside and then makes you cry. They don't make em like this anymore. Thanks for putting this great classic on youtube.
My mom took me to see this movie when I was EIGHT years old..to this day, it's still my favorite movie and he's still the most beautiful man that ever lived along with Clark Gable. All the handsome ones die too soon. My my my wasn't he handsome?
This brings back fond memories this scene is one of the highlights for musically inclined. Ironically the pianist Carmen Cavallaro who plays the piano in this film has a very different style of playing to the real Eddy Duchin. Cavallaro style in corp orated lots of Arpeggios (runs)in his arrangements Duchin's style was very different. However Cavallaro's rendition of Manhattan became a pop classic.
This movie is one of my faves..Of course Ty can npt play! But he can fence and punch bad guys..For pianists who saw the movie, the sound of the bass notes when the CHOPSTICK started became 1 octave lower...And the kid with no piano lesson was able to play 1 step higher when Ty transposed the key 1 step higher..It is OK!..I still love the movie because of the music, the story and of Tyrone Power...
Although pianist Carmen Cavallaro played the music in the film, Tyrone spent weeks learning the fingering so that he could be photographed "playing" the piano. He learned 20 of Duchin's numbers for the film. Now this is dedication Ty worked so hard at his craft, But no one noticed enough to give him the awards he was due.
I can see you are a fan of Ty Power and his movies..In the beginning, I thought Carmen Cavallero is a girl. I was wrong.. I have a CD movie soundtrack of the movie, then when the DVD came out, I bought a copy of it.Have you seen the photo of the real Eddie Duchin?..He looks very similar to Tyrone Power!...
That was not the meaning of my question. You are stating the obvious......It is my understanding that Tyrone simulated playing on a piano that could not really play.. I think the musician who played all of those scenes was C. Cavallero, which makes Tyrone'd perfromance even more amazing.
You are welcome :) Eddy Duchin was a wonderful movie and stand up even today, It is great this man has all of his movies now fomatted to DVD :) He desrves the best , and some AWARDS if the PTB are looking :) he was always forgotten, and the highest ranked star in his day.
His name was Warren Hsieh and he worked until he was 15 (My Three Sons) and he died February 21, 2009 a month before his 58th birthday. No other information seems to be available.
We all love a good movie and back in the old days they new how to make them. This is a great film with one of the magical scenes from it, based on a true story and not a swear word in sight( or sound). Why can't they make films the way they use to?

I have read that Tyrone spent months learning the finger action for the movie, way back then though, The stars were under 20 year contracts, and were skilled in all things:.My favourite Ty movie

Fine, he himself was playing the easy stuff, but was dubbed over by C. Cavallero for the amazing stuff.

They don't "... make movies like they used to" because everyone has forgotten that "possible" and "permissible" are NOT synonymous.
