Beatles fans,if you want a Ringo drum solo,Take 24 of this song is about as close as you're gonna get.
His drum "solo"on The End is studio fakery at its finest,in fact John,Paul and George were actually playing on the take, they were just mixed out to create the illusion of a drum solo.
This was an example of The Beatles(Lennon in particular)not giving a damn about what could and could not be done in the studio.Lennon like the 1st half of Take 7 with the 2nd half of Take 26 and wanted George Martin to splice them together, this was a big issue because both takes weren't in the same key also they were in different tempos,Lennon didn't care, eventually Martin did it by speeding up 1 take and slowing down another(hence why the song has a premature fadeout towards the end).
GREAT STUFF!!!! Where did you get all of this???? I've got ALL of the Lost Lennon Tapes episodes and a lot of this stuff isn't on any of them!!
I also have the ebtire recording sessions for Let It Be, kinda boring. Their worst album. I'd LOVE to at least get the sessions for Revolver through at least MMT if not Yellow Submarine, maybe even "The Beatles".
If you open parts 2 and 3 of this at the right time together in seperate windows, you can hear the drum and bass version of strawberry fields, its tripping me out massively. Im gonna experiment with part 1 aswell.
At 2:37 you can clearly hear Lennon saying, in his joking way -- first -- "I'm very bored" THEN "Cranberry Sauce", as he said he did. (this fade out was part of the old "Paul is dead" hoax, for those too young to remember). In the same voice he says then "Calm down, Ringo"!
Brian Epstein told them they quickly needed to release a single..all they had at the time was this song and Penny Lane. John didn't have much material for Magical Mystery Tour (except for Walrus), maybe that's why Strawberry Fields was added to it.
They didn't like pulling tracks off albums for singles (at least in Britain. Capitol in America did whatever it wanted without the Beatles consent when it came to singles)
The Beatles had never gone so long without an album release (they were close to calling it quits at the end of 1966, so the corporate masters gave them some slack). 'Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane' was released to say "WE ARE STILL HERE" and bought them the time to finish their masterpiece, 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,' which was released in the early spring of 1967.
I don't think the Beatles were going to "call it quits". They were just off living their own individual lives. I would like to see an interview where any of them said they considered solo musical careers at that point. Obviously John was growing tired of being a "Beatle" (that's why he started saying things and doing things that would be embarrassing to their "image" as mop tops) but even he wasn't ready for a divorce.
Strawberry field and Penny lane was a single that Epstein told them to release before Sgt. Pepper's (like tdeb said)-- but they didn't put it on Sgt. Pepper's because they felt like it would "con" the people who bought the album. Later they claimed that it was their biggest mistake not to put them on the album
ALWAYS KNOW SOMETIMES THINK IT'S ME, but you know i know when it's a dream, I THINK A NO I MEAN A YES BUT IT'S ALL WRONG, that is i think i disagree...
i think sff and pl were meant for pepper, but a 45 was needed,so released.pepper didnt need a single .i wouldve prefered only a northern song as opposed to withih you, without you, personally,on the lp.
Can you imagine trying to make up your mind at all as to which one to pick as your "final version". I believe this was the very first song recorded for the Sgt. Pepper's sessions. Set the fucking tone!!! I think by this take, everyone knew they had something special. Much like they felt after recording the second take of "Twist and Shout"...Breaking new ground.
This final version is the best Ive heard. Why they didnt release that version (take 26) is beyond me. Its at the proper speed, and much better than the released single, where Johns voice sounds a little like the batteries to my walkman ran down. One of the great pieces of music of the 20th century for sure. You really sense they were at their creative peak here.
It is take 26 except for the first minute from take 7 in it's place and the part at the end where they fade out once (creating a musical tag), and then again before the second "cranberry sauce" from John. Funny thing is, is that I always thought the first minute of take 7 is what made the end result so different (instead of 26 untouched) - but for my ears it's the 2 times they faded out at the very end of the song. The ending that was created by doing that made the song creepier lol.
I you listen closly, you can hear "i buried paul" or "cranberry sauce" whichever you prefer not once, but twice at the very end. The last one is faint.
simply the best pop song ever recorded....period

cranberry sauce was a key for ringo on drums who used the fruit salad idea to play Strawberry fields forever. Very confusing I know.

raf3592 4 years ago
it's the same thing, just the way you listen to it. no reason to bury paul. He was still alive (unless John just didn't like him)
FlamingoKicker 3 years ago
It's either in his defense to it being "cranberry sauce"/it being an inside joke, or OMG WTF LULZCOMPTER.

Cranberry sauce both times. Then he says "All right, calm down Ringo"

Nice job!!
I like george Martin's crazy modernist orchestration Version the best. NO one combines Rockin' beats with classical mjusic better than he does.
The creepy "flute"/organ chords from the so called "Acid Rock" takes are also fantastic

How do you know?
TruthRaider 4 years ago
It's in several books about The Beatles, George Martin has confirmed this.
tdeb79 4 years ago
Strawberry fields should have been on Pepper; and Penny lane could have been a single with only one a-side; Good morning could have been it's b-side.

Why? Fields is better than Pennylane
They didn't like pulling tracks off albums for singles (at least in Britain. Capitol in America did whatever it wanted without the Beatles consent when it came to singles)

yeah, it was also a kind of an introduction to sgt pepper, to show us that they're back, but in a new direction.

Strawberry Fields Forever was added as the entire second side of Magical Mystery Tour was a collection of singles from 1967.

theres one problem actually. what u labelled as take 7 is actually take 6. take 7 is on the beatles anthology and is quite different.
