One of my cats was diagnosed with diabetes about 5 years ago. All these were typical symptoms of his diabetes. He is insulin dependent but is doing so well. He is now 13 years and 9 months old. He is a great weight andhas only had one hypoglycaemic episode. He lives a great live with quality and is very happy.
I had to continue another comment not enough room, so how do u know if u are overfeeding or not feeding enough, it is so hard also my cat is very picky, but this is the first day she wants to eat like crazy, since the vet upped the insulin to 2 shots opposed to 1, and I am so confused, she is crying for food, even though the past 2wks she hardly ate is it safe to give her more food to make up for this loss of appetite or just stick to 2 cans a day? Which is the safest to do? thank you
You did not mention what do to for the cat if eating and drinking increases, do you
stop all feeding if you are giving 2 shot per day, or do you still continue to feed? My vet does not agree with home testing blood, from the horror stories I am hearing from ppl pricking the cats ear veins I would rather let my vet take charge of the taking blood part, I have just found out my cat had this diabetes and she is my life I was so afraid to give the insulin but now I know I am saving her life.
the idea of giving my cat a shot of insulin everyday for the rest of it's life is giving me serious doubt. That's alot of injections.. The money issue is not great either as I'm not rich but i might be able to afford it.
I'm not sure what the right thing to do is. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My cat has diabetics. The vet gave him pills which did no good at all, he continued to lose weight. He got down to 6lbs. My cousin is diabetic so he's checking the cat and put him on insulin. He's sharing. Poor cats sugar was over 600 at first. He's using humilin on him. it's only been 2 days. We are having trouble getting the blood from his ear however.
@Leenao Lantus is probably more expensive. I pay about a hundred bucks for a vile. My 18 lb cat takes just over 2 IU. He takes much less when I feed him strictly fresh wild salmon and/or Wellness wet cat food.
Found out he was diabetic after his severe upper respiratory sickness and urinating outside his box. Hind legs were going into paralysis and he was vomiting all the time. Drank tons of water and passed much of it into the litter.
