I improvised becuase I don't have a DIY store anywhere near me, so I simply put a cutting board into an old plain pillow case and sealed it off, and it works amazingly :]
i have some sponge based carpet under my table, which is covered with a green paterned base. For a mat, you can just by a sheet of neoprene, it is very grippy so won't slip on most surfaces and cards fan realy well over it, also it rolls up so it's easy to carry
hey i made a mat but its not a wood but illustration board and a normal dinning towel and wrap it on the board and cut a fouth of a baller and place it at the 4 sides so that it won't slide ^ ^
@iloveshadowmaster felt is a type of material usually used in card tables and for a good reason...it is usually just perfect. A good example why smooth surfaces are bad for table tricks or poker is because it is much harder to pick up the cards (especially that last card)
@LCer Excellent advice. I actually thought of that, but was in a rush to get out of the store. I did however just put an extra piece of felt underneath of it, for that very reason, which seems to work well. I am going to out today to invest in a new close-up mat, probably a 14" X 18" Trevor Duffy if they have them in stock!
the only thing I would change about your design is that I would add some sort of rubber to the bottom to help prevent it from sliding. I have two close up pads, one black and one red. they came with a set with 9 decks of different colored bicycle cards, and I don't know the exact size off hand. I use the red one to practice with and the black one if I preform.
@hrtuvchrome I didn't put rubber on the bottom because I couldn't find it at the time! My old close-up mat, one I bought from the magic shop a long time ago is flexible and has a non-slip bottom, which is awesome. However, this design actually doesn't slide at all because it is much heavier than a regular mat, so it's not that much of a problem in this case. Thank for commenting and for the suggestions! :-)
@booyahshaka91 Thanks for the comment! That's a pretty good price. How big is it and how much did it cost? I am going to pick up another "real" close-up mat, but it's prob gunna run me 30 bucks because I buy it from my local magic shop!
@jtibo1 Hey. if you're going to drop a lot of money on a mat, I have some suggestions of good ones. Trevor Duffy close up mats. They're about 20 bucks. I also have another one that's good. If you want, PM me for links.
Thanks

Thank you for the video!
But, how it ould be, if you put first some sponge under the black, so you can grab the cards more easily?
