In the book Rosaleen is 50 and had a very questionable relationship with snuff. there was also a disturbing part with her bathing with rosaleen in a creek. If you read it you would understand...fantastic story!

So studying african american makes you what...It wasn't a stereotypical postition. Not all african american women were the same back then. The authur showed a diffrent way of life back then. I just hope the movie did the bopok justice. And the book was VERY GOOD!!~Real Talk~

I am going to watch the movie because I love the characters in the cast. I read the book though and I think it is TOTAL TRASH. The author really has no clue what life is like in an African American home and she spends more time attempting some side ways apology and explaination for the way some white people think about black people. Just live, don't keep trying to make shallow apologies.

Well this is the 3rd time I'm reading so, the first time I loved Rosaleen cuz I'm a big Jennifer Hudson fan. For the second time I fell in love with May (And as you finish the book you'll find out more reasons after you have read it). Now for the third time I LOVE August, she makes me feel so warm and safe when I'm reading about her, she puts my troubles at ease. What about you?

I read it in 3 days but only cuz I HAD to put it down to do stuff but I would have read it all in one night if I was able to. I just loved it and I also think every cast member isperfect for the part, everyone but T-Ray. I saw him way diff looking then paul but paul looks just like Decoda so it will fit. I can't wait to see what they do with Mays, scene, the one where shes in the lake with the rock? You know what I'm talking about?

The thing that I find odd is they got Paul Bettany to play T. Ray. Now I don't know about yall, but I always imagined T. Ray to be big, mean and ugly whereas Paul Bettany is a tall, blonde, attractive Brit. I'm pretty excited to see if/how he pulls it off

Yeah me too but he looks so much like Decoda that it will fit. Don't forget Lilly is a brunet in the book and looks nothing like Decoda so they got an actor who could pass for her father, oh and her mother was brunet aswell in the book
