Geddy sounds fine people. He's 58 years old and may not have the shrieking quality he had years and years ago, which is what I think you people want, but it sounds so much more mature and level than it did way back when. I prefer it this way, and he can still hit the high notes when he has to.
I think they are all brothers at heart and really love what they do. They always look like they are having so much fun. RUSH is and will be the BEST BAND EVER!!!!!
Alex Lifeson is the most underrated guitarist ever. If Hendrix or Page played this people would call it one of the greatest solos of all time. Lifeson is amazing.
@nattiep I was at this show. It was not autotune. I know what autotune sounds like and I know for sure live there wasn't any. Maybe post production, but not live in at the recording.
@MattTheSasquatch I never said it was live at the recording. Hence the bootleg showing how off key he was. It's definitely done in post as were Marathon and Presto. Presto had a BIG train wreck fixed in post. It's just a shame they recorded such a blah show and made very obvious post production changes. "In the long run" after the explosion in Marathon sounds like a damn top 40 tune.
@nattiep Musically, I think this performance was off the charts. Vocally? Definitely "meh." But in all fairness Geddy was coming down off of a cold that he contracted in Feb or March of 2011, just before the second leg of the tour started. But yeah, I could tell right off the bad that there was quite a bit of post, pitch-correction, and such. Sucks, because Marathon is my favorite song and that one seemed to have the most vocal work done to it.
PERMANENT WAVES (1980) marked the starting point for Rush's full-blown entry into condensed, accessible progressive rock. They abandoned the 20-minute suites and mystical lyrics for catchy progressive song structures, and more human, worldly-related topics. But, Geddy Lee (vocals/bass/synths), Alex Lifeson (guitars) and Neil Peart (drums/lyrics) didn't lose their brilliance in composition, even if most of the track lengths were fit for radio. ENJOY! ;o)
This performance was SPECIAL!!! The solo section and Ged's vocals after....he nails the high notes!!!! You could feel it in the crowd and see it on the band's faces, too!
Moving stuff, really, seeing aging musicians who might be having a tougher time hitting those notes or playing like they did years back, just turning back the clock and tearing the roof off the place.
@MrMatthewLeo: I agree that it's getting harder for Geddy to hit those really high notes, but then again, why should he have to? They can just lower the song a few keys. As for musical technique, these guys seem to be getting better at their instruments as they get older. Call it the Rush Paradox.
I love the very beginning of this when the music hits: the crowd cheers loudly, the lights go on, Neil throws his stick high in the air, and Geddy motions his arm round and round in the air. So much energy there.
@Skapunkfan1 Neil's played the guitar solo section way better early on the 2010 leg of the tour as well, their first Chicago show was the last time I saw him nail it perfectly. Alex and Geddy killed it though, so much energy even at pushing 60!
Its nice to hear that Geddy hit the high part after the amazing solo section. Although his voice has dwindled a little in his older age, he has definitely still got it.
Of all the live versions of Freewill they've recorded over the years, this is THE best one. And it's being performed here 32 years after it was released. Amazing.
I've seen Neil play that guitar solo section way better. I was rather disappointed to not hear the ride pattern the way it was supposed to be. That said, the drum sound is incredible, I love the sound of the snare on this live album, and as a whole this sounds fantastic ! My favorite RUSH song of all time. The DVD is poorly produced though. They didn't focus on who they should have focused on during certain parts of the performance but hey maybe next time right.?
@striferman Sorry to burst your bubble, bro, but the performance quality of a song includes the entire band, not just the guitarist. I'm not saying this is bad, nothing this band does is bad, but I still think the Snakes & Arrows performance was way better.
@losingitrush I'm well aware that Neil is the drummer dude. RUSH has been my favorite band for almost a decade and Neil is the reason I decided to pursue drums in the first place.
@SkylinesTy That's funny because I actually thought that this DVD did the best job out of any of them of focusing on exactly who they should have during performances. I love Rio but that one was all over the place and not looking at who I wanted usually. I think this new one is far better produced than any of the others.

@RogueReplicant
They could drop the key, like many older bands do, but folks with keen ears hear the difference, and they appreciate when they stick to the original.
Interesting how Geddy still can struggle with Limelight, which is much lower, but he can stretch for these notes.Wonder why that is?
